Second concern, unless we're talking about a longer term and legitimate solution, I hesitate to let Goldson walk because of the impact it has on the locker room. I hated the Vinny culture, let our own players go and bring in the new hot free agent. It especially hits morale in the locker room when it happens to a highly respected player like Goldson.
I like the culture you breed when you draft your own and care for your own. Granted Goldson wasn't drafted but he's respected, and I want our young guys to have good examples to look up to, and I want them to see those kinds of guys being rewarded.
It's a philosophy that doesn't pay off on paper with talent but it pays off in the form of culture, work ethic, and attitude. If the next Sean Taylor was hitting free agency then it'd be different, but for Weddle at this stage of his career? I don't know.

Yeah I'd agree. Considering Weddle's price and age, might as well just stick with Goldson another year and try to restructure him.
