I agree. I hope this is a sign that Gibbs will stop being so rigidly conservative and let Brunell take some legitimate shots downfield-- and that Brunell will continue to take those shots and complete them!
If Gibbs opens it up earlier in the game and threatens the defense downfield more often, it should definitely open things up for Portis and Betts. Hopefully, Gibbs will look at the first six quarters that Brunell played this season and realize that the old dink-and-dunk approach will get this offense nowhere fast. He can't keep waiting until the team is up against the ropes to start calling a
real passing game. Safe, short passes are a smart component of any passing offense-- but they shouldn't comprise the
entire passing offense!
