Offenses don't cut it in the playoffs. Defenses do. In the playoffs, the play is more aggressive and defenses tend to shine. Regular season? It's all about the offense and scoring. Post season? It's all about the defense and special teams. It's like the NBA. Offenses and defenses win super bowls. Not just one or the other.
Baltimore's D last year was mediocre, ranked in the low teens, won a super bowl.
Patriots had the 31st defense in the NFL... made the super bowl.
Giants had the 27th defense in the NFL... won the super bowl.
Saints had the 25th ranked defense in the NFL... won the super bowl.
Winning a super bowl is about playing your best on both sides of the ball when the games matter most. You can't win a super bowl with a bad offense that doesn't convert when it needs to. You can't win a super bowl with a bad defense that allows conversions at crucial times. It isn't one or the other.
