First off, the "assault weapons ban" Obama promoted that just failed in the Senate would have taken some guns.

Second, the NRA and other organizations actually do work to make gun ownership more responsible and safer. So I don't think you really know what "safer" and "more responsible" are unless those words = "ban" to you.
