The Washington Redskins, short on defensive backs because of numerous training camp injuries, signed rookie Charles Byrd on Thursday.

Byrd was undrafted out of Morehead State, where he had 184 tackles and 12 interceptions during his college career.

The Redskins have had eight defensive backs miss practices due to injuries during the first three weeks of training camp. None of the injuries appears to be serious, but the team is short-handed at cornerback and safety headed into Friday's exhibition game against Cincinnati.
