Is it all about the money?

Before you read this, who do you think is the most loyal to their team and is not money oriented in the NFL?

Brett Favre?
Ray Lewis?
Tom Brady?
Jerome Bettis?

Well... If you answered Ray Lewis take a gander--------->

Ravens | R. Lewis Wants a New Deal, but - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 28 May 2005 00:53:22 -0700

"Mike Preston, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis would like a new contract, despite the fact his current deal has four years remaining on it. Team and league officials have indicated Lewis wants a new deal with a $50 million signing bonus. Lewis seems like he is prepared to yield some of the power he has held through the years, a source of contention in the locker room last season. There had been some talk Lewis was trying to collude with TE Todd Heap and S Ed Reed for all three to hold out to increase their leverage. "Last offseason I trained with Ed Reed, but this year I'm on my own," said Lewis. "Those rumors are ridiculous. Ed Reed has his own agent to advise him, not me." "This year, I'm just going to play football. I don't want to be a GM; I don't want to be a coach. I'm going to be a player again, and end up being the Most Valuable Player, not just on defense, but for the entire league," Lewis added. Right now it appears the team has no desire to re-do his contract. "

This is insane!! 50 million dollars!!! Really does he think in any possible way that he will get this?
Also Ray says that he doesn't have any agreement with Reed but could it be true that they will all try to hold out?

i do not think that they will holdout. ray lewis will get a new contract eventually just like reed but they do have to take care of the j lewis and heap first. they are nicely run organization who will make it all work. ray lewis does not deserve that kind of money up front but does deserve some compensation. Eventually there will be a player to cross that barrel but it will probably be a quarterback or runningback not a linebacker.

Re: Is it all about the money?

The owners have to take a stand. First they have to take a stand and if the player refuses to play they should release them with no cap hit. (that would have to come from league rule changes. Second the teams need to agree that they will not sign these players. I don't think this will happen do to legal reasons but the teams have to do something to stop this nonsense.

Re: Is it all about the money?

This report is utterly ridiculous. First, there's no way Lewis would get other guys to hold out with him. It would only hinder his own chances at milking more money out of the Ravens, because if they give more to Reed and Heap, then they won't have as much available to give to Lewis.

Secondly, $50 million? I can't believe Ray would even be serious about that. Peyton Manning got $34 million and he's a friggin QB, the most important player on the field. If Ray is serious about $50 million, there's NO WAY IN HELL he'd get it.

I think this report is hogwash. But if it's true, you're right, he would fall into the "selfish" player category.

i say the bus. twice now, in two seasons back to back, he's given up money so he can stay with the team and be a backup. as for this ray lewis deal, i don't think it's gonna happen, he's getting old and he's gonna retire in a couple years, and there is no way in my right mind i would give someone a 50 million signing bonus if they were past the age of 25.

The Bus and Brady. I'm sorry, but Brady is still underpaid. I guess teams just want big numbers and not Super Bowls.

favre, how can anyone not put him #1? the guy plays his heart our every game. his dad dies (his idol and father) and he puts huge numbers up the next night. he breaks his thumb on his throwing hand and plays the rest of the season with it never making a excuse for his so so play toward the end of that season. his wife has breast cancer , and his mother is in a shitty situation and still has yet to make an excuse nor leave the team. he's just a true football player and no one will come close in exception to darrell greens 20 years with the same team.

well, i know this player has been retired for a few years....but this player never complained, always did what was asked of him, and never held out for more money. he also was/and still is an inspiration to the team and community with all his charity work and generosity. his name of course is darrel green...and i for one am proud he was and will always be a redskin. :food-smil...and HTTR!!!!
