Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Well very tough game today and it hurt to lose that way but let's look at some good and bad.
Good= defense (outstanding all day regarding points and turnovers) Oline was solid once again. Kirk was awesome in the 4th Qtr. Crowder showing he's legit. Negative= run defense was bad today real bad. Bad miss on the FG. Came back to hurt us. Kc OT int was just bad and he's got to change that inconsistent play. Garçon sucked today. Run game was bad for the first time Reed and Djax need to play next week. |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Good:
Cousins Crowder Carrier Breeland (he's the best CB on the team) Young CB's Kerrigan OL Bad: Cousins bad pass at the end (even with Grant falling it was wide) Garcon (many dropped balls) D not adjusting to stopping Freeman running to the left Soft prevent D on final regulation drive No running game Penalties Officials |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Garcon is catching a lot of heat. Every ball he didn't catch was a shitty pass by Cousins. He fired high a couple times and way behind him on the interception.
If you touch it you should catch it is so false. Cousins is just not very accurate a lot of the times. There were at least 5 open receivers he missed with bad passes. Including the game ender. That was wide by like 2 yards. The thing that makes me nervous is accuracy is not necessarily a fixable thing at this point. He might just not be a very accurate passer. |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Good:
Defense played pretty well, considering the opponent. Breeland showed up. Crowder is amazeballs, as is Thompson. We finally have a kicker. I don't blame Hopkins for that long miss, he had the leg, just pushed it a little bit too much. Plus that was like what, a 52 yard kick or something? Bad: No running game, whatsoever hurts. As much as I dig Alfmo, I think even Thompson is outplaying him at this point. Garcon is inconsistent at best. Grant fell down on the route. How are you falling? You aren't even playing on real grass. Ross still isn't above Grant on the depth chart. :Smoker: |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
I was watching ESPN game cast here in Connecticut cause we didn't get it...tough to see the line for int for td game over come up as previous play.
Gotta say, I see progress. With take them to ot, but always in the back of my mind it's like what if? |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
We are clearly a better team than last year. We went from a bottom 5 team to somewhere around the 20 range. And we could have won vs Miami and Atlanta. But that's why we aren't there yet. Just keep improving.I feel like if we have another good draft and pick up a couple free agents this offseason we are legitimately fighting for a playoff spot next year. That's a positive.

Negative= run defense was bad today real bad. Garçon sucked today.
I think we played a lot of nickle. The passes on Garcon's drops were way off target. I agree with the other posters' observations. |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Positives:
-The secondary, great effort with so many starters out -The D line pressuring with only 4 down lineman Negatives: -D against the zone running scheme, haven't these guys seen this in practice for years? -Lack of blitz on the Falcons last drive, dial up something special when the game is on the line. 2-3 Redskins 2015 :( I didn't have much hope for 2015, everytime I get my hopes up.... heartbroken. |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Garçon had that td yes it was a bit high but he had 2 hands on it. I love the guy but still has to make those plays to beat atlanta.

Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
It is interesting I didn't get to watch the game only listened to it so I don't have a visual opinion on Garcon's drops, but Cooley on the color said that Garcon should've had those balls, he also question Garcon during the first interception. Being a former TE with shall we say less than elite QBs he might have higher standards for receivers than he does QBs.

Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Kirk wasn't perfect today...he will probably be the first one to say that...but there were some balls that weren't thrown "perfectly" that probably should have been caught. Yes, if you get two hands on the ball at this level, you should catch it = TRUE!
Yeah, kicker missed a 53 yarder, but lots of kickers do that. Can't put the game on him...if he didn't hit the one at the end of the 4th qtr, there was no OT and no chance anyway... Two INTs by Kirk, but in my opinion neither one of them were his fault, but I'm sure the talk will be Kirk just can't stop turning the ball over...already heard Aikman saying that, like he never threw INTs his first year as the starter... Bottom line for me, this team is a lot better than anyone thought they would be, and a little better than their record reflects. They could be 4-1 but they are not. However, the are definitely in the mix in the NFC East. So all is well. |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
The main positive was the defense. Got some turnovers and overall did a really good job. The offense was pretty bad. I still expected a much worse loss.
I never expected anything better than an 8 - 8 season, and figured 3 or 4 wins was possible. So the way they have played this year is as good or better than I had expected. Other positives is that some young guys are stepping up. Not only this years draft but Breeland and Moses from last years. Crowder is looking like a steal so far. |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Note to nfl receivers, if the Qb throws a shitty pass don't attempt to catch it because if you touch the ball it is now your fault you didn't catch it.

C'MON MAN! There's a big difference between a "shitty" pass and a pass that is a little under/over thrown. I have no problem taking the position that if the receiver gets two hands on the ball, they should haul it in. Pretty sure every NFL receiver would tell you the same thing. Note to NFL Quarterbacks, if the receiver looks like he's open, don't throw the ball, because if you do and the receiver falls down, it is now your fault you threw an interception. See how dumb that sounds? |
Re: Falcons postgame positives and negatives
Skins are now 0-3 when cousins has an int in a game this yr. 2-0 when he doesn't
