Best case scenario

I know everybody has thier own best case scenarios but since I've been daydreaming at work about this since January I couldn't help but throw my wishlist in and see what others think.

-Trade down for a mid to late 1st and a second.

-Select Georgia DE David Pollack in 1st. I know he is not the quintessential NFL DE but he is suppoesed to be relentless with a monster work ethic and plays with a mean streak. Some say he might be better suited as a LB in a 3-4 but he sounds like the kind player that you'd want on your team.

-Select Virginia G Elton Brown in the 2nd. I know he had off field probs before college but they say he is a team player. We have been missing a true mauling guard (ala Tre Johnson) for some time and even if he takes a while to develope he would still add depth and push our current players into performing at an even higher level.

-Pick a nickel CB in the 3rd. Someone like Neb's Fabian Washington, Hawaii's Abraham Elimimian or maybe even MD's Domonique Foxworth if he's still around.

-Get a decent WR with some heigth to him in the 4th. Maybe a Matt Jones who could also back up Cooley at HB, or Ball State's Dante Ridgeway. I know WR is currently higher on our priority list but I think we should let the guys we got show what they can do. If we do take a WR earlier UAB's Roddy White sounds pretty intriguing.

-Round out the later rounds with a pass rushing specializing De or a DT to groom, maybe another OT for Buges to mold.

Footnote: I couldn't help but notice that Steve Sutter was on the list of local players that attended Redskins workouts today. I know he will probably go undrafted and we are kinda loaded up on kick/punt returners at the moment but wouldn't that be kinda cool. Does anyone think he will make a fit somewhere in the league?

Re: Best case scenario

While i like your name (81forHOF) and i agree with trading down i dont think we can wait that late in the draft to address the WR position. How far we can trade down and what would we recieve for trading down is the thing that will really guide our draft this year.I would love to get Mike Williams with the #9 but from what i have been hearing there is no way he will fall down to us at 9. Who else besides Pollack would you like to see the Skins take?

that would be ideal, but matt jones will be long gone by the 4th round im sure, someone will take the chance with a 2nd rounder

If we stay at #9 i'd say E.James or A.Rolle. I know our offense needs the help but most the WRs in this draft scare me a little. I really like E.Brown but not at #9.

it seems to me that the skins have niavely put the wr position in the hands of Moss, who didn' tshow up for workouts, I think we'll take a corner or a dend if we move down. I would love to fall to the first pick in the second collecting pick for this year and next then take matt Jones, but thats just me

Re: Best case scenario

There are quite a few sleeper picks at WR in the draft. If we could trade down and pick up Carlos Rogers and grab that guy from UAB or Vincent Jackson in the 2nd if at all possible, I would be very pleased.

Also, I said in another thread that I looked at highlights of Mike Williams and he really isn't that impressive. He doesn't run very good routes and smaller people jam him at the line fairly easily.

Re: Best case scenario

what about one of those big wideouts from Georgia?

Re: Best case scenario

I saw some footage of one of them, I don't remember who, but he looked like he was fundamentally sound.

I know I'm no pro-scout, but recently I've been a whore for people who run good, clean routes and catch the easy balls.

Re: Best case scenario

Williams scares me a bit also, although I did like the maturity he demonstrated throughout his whole draft status fiasco. I think he could easily develope into a Rod Gardner type reciever, but I have been wrong before.

I agree there will be some sleeper WR in the mid rounds. Watching the games last year it seemed that the problems stemmed from the QB's not having enough time to throw. Getting Jansen back will help but we will need someone in the backfield who can pick up a blitz! ( E. Reed whiffing by Cooley for the sack/forced fumble/recovery/game winning touchdown return in the 4th is the case in point). What I'm getting at is the WRs we have can get the job done if we execute and even the best WR won't if we don't.

Draft some beef!! Trade Down for Brown! (hey, that rhymed)

Re: Best case scenario

who is brown going to replace? not Thomas, and with Jansen back we may put Ray Brown in Dockery's spot which will add more toughness to the line. I understand what your saying but I think we have more pressing needs

TheMalcolmConnection 04-07-2005 07:30 PM

Re: Best case scenario

I thought Dockery improved as the year went on. I do agree with 81forHOF in saying that we do have some fairly decent receivers already. Would I like to draft a WR in the first round? Absolutely. The more I hear from Braylan Edwards, the more I like the kid.
Without a 1st round pick, the Redskins will have to wait until Friday, May 9th to take their first player in this year's drat (assuming they don't trade up).

The most desperate need for Washington is a Guard or Right Tackle. RG3 got knocked down way too much last year: preventing him from establishing confidence in the pocket. Their zone run scheme on offense will require a nasty athletic player on the offensive line, which I believe Joel Bitonio, OT, Nevada will be able to satisfy with ease.

If Washington elects to shore up its defense, I would like a guy like Ryan Shazier to add some athleticism to that LB group. If they go after improving their secondary, they are desperate for a better Safety. A Jimmy Ward or Calvin Pryor would be a good fit if available. What do you think?
