Shouldn't we be talking extention with Fred Davis?

After a slow start to the season, Fred Davis has emerged as RG3's most reliable target. Only Tony Gonzales has accumulated more yards at the TE position over the last month. His catching percentage is like 5 in the league for TE which takes into account targeted and receptions with at least 10 passes caught. From what Ive seen, his blocking has improved.

Davis is franchised, but its time to get a long term deal done. Skins drafted and developed his talent into a top ten TE, with potential to be top 5. Instead of another Carlos situation where he goes somewhere to become of probowler, the Skins desperately need to lock him into to 5, 6 year deal. He has no one behind him ready to become a starter. Paulson is a nice no 2 TE, Paul has shown he doesn’t deserve to be on the field ever, except for special teams in which he excels.

I know Davis likes tree, who doesn’t? I have faith in Bruce to provide a contract which would shield us from anymore possible suspension. But as long as he keeps clean this year, extension is due. I can’t deal with another Carlos, Pierce, Ryan Clark outcome.

Davis is the number 1 contract priority, let’s get it done Bruce. Opinions?

Fred Davis is still on a leash so to speak. He would have gotten signed to another deal had it not be for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

I think we have leverage with the tweed suspension, so I believe it can be cheaper per year, with a slightly lower guarentee.

I'd say something like 5 year 25M is fair enough

Well, they started talking with Davis and Orakpo this summer. And I strongly suspect something will work out with Davis because Mike Shanahan loves, Loves, LOVES Fred Davis. Not many guys on the team work harder than him. Which I know is a shock to many

Also, this

Section 6. NFL Drug and Steroid Policies: No Club may impose any discipline against a player, including but not limited to terminating the player’s Player Contract, as a result of that Player’s violation of the Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Sub-stances or the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, or for failing any drug test, provided, however, that the fact that a player has violated the Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances or the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, or has failed a drug test will not preclude the termination of his Player Contract if such termination is otherwise expressly permissible under this Agreement or the player’s Player Contract.

That's good to hear all around.

I imagine he will get 6.5-7m a year and it will wait till the bye week or offseason. I don't see him going anywhere.

I'm not that hung up on Davis. If the Skins resign him fine. If they don't I won't cry a river about it.

Re: Shouldn't we be talking extention with Fred Davis?

Hate to say it but with the injury today -- no way should Fred Davis get a long term deal. If it really is an ACL tear, it will take him at least a year, maybe two to get back to his current condition. Really sad, thought he would have a big year this year.

Is it too early to add TE to list of offseason/draft needs?
