Nook Tablet Opinions Wanted

So my wife wants one of these for christmas and I was just wondering is this up to par with others on the market or is there something better for around the same price? Thanks for any opinions.

I think the Nook wins out because you can use it with your local library, well at least in MD.

The Kindle Fire looks pretty cool too.

The Nook Tablet seems to be a good choice. My wife has the Nook Color reader (which is basically a slightly downgraded version of the tablet) and she likes it a lot. Although it is slightly higher price than the Kindle Fire, I think it is worth it.

Thanks, do I have to buy a monthly service with these?

I don't think so. I think the Nook Tablet is a Wi-Fi device. You just need a wireless network at home or at work to use it.

That's what I figured and I guess you have to purchase the books you download.

For tablets in that price range you won't find anything better than the Nook. It has a slightly better feature set (better browser, battery life, sd card slot which you will need to buy because they reserve 15 of the 16 gig internal drive for nook app store bought content) than the Kindle Fire but the Fire has it beat with their market app.

For the most part though Amazon now lets you rent select books.

So is there something much better thats not a ton more? That's just the one she picked but if there is one for $100 more that's worth the extra money then I'd go with something else.

There was one that went for about 100 more that was on sale during Black Friday and Cyber Monday but you missed it. Best Buy had this for 229 bucks and they sold out. If they ever get more in stock I doubt they will be priced at 229 and being available for xmass delivery so I wouldn't hold my breath. Go with the Nook before they sell out and pocket that extra 100 for your rainy day beer fund.

I've used the Fire and it's a nice tablet. You have to side load google apps, which is a pain, but still not too hard. Reading on it is surprisingly nice.

No experience with the nook though.
