Blache Interviews with Notre Dame

I just found out they fired Tyrone Willingham. ND is just a name now. They can't recruit good players so how they expect to ever be competitive is beyond me. I for one hope they stink up the joint for years to come. Blache won't get the job and he'll probably be better off in the long run.

Any of you guys see Willingham jumping to the NFL?

ND has egg all over their face after Meyer jumped to Florida.

Willingham didn't have an honest shot. You have to give a college coach enough time to get at least one cycle of players through the program. He got shafted pretty hard. Stupid move by Notre Dame.

Well, I heard a rumor that Willingham was looking at Washington's (pretty sure) program, ND found out, and figured they'd be first on the draw. I like Willingham, I think ND shoulda tried to keep him. They think Charlie Weis will go, but I think he wants NFL. Buffalo's O coordinator will be their coach.

Exactly. All his recruits are basicallly freshman and sophomores, if even that. You have to give a college coach enough time to implement his system with his players. He clearly wasn't given enough time to do that at Notre Dame, in my opinion.

And I hate that I'm even thinking this but I sure hope Blache isn't their "token interview" I hope it's not a case of Notre Dame saying "Hey, Willingham's race had nothing to do with it, look at us, we're interviewing other African-Americans"

I think Willingham to Washington makes sense. Off the top of my head I can't think of what other programs might be out there.

Smoot - they said Willingham was looking at Washington before he was fired from ND. Again, just a rumor I heard on some sportstalk radio show!

before he was fired?? That's interesting

ND's biggest problem is definitely their recruiting standards... they eliminated a number of scholarships given to some exception rule a few years back and it's haunted them ever since. When you've got tradition and you're winning, people will look at you. When you're losing and can't fill up the skill player positions, recruits may put the school on their list but South Bend Indiana doesn't look as enticing.

The AD buckled under the pressure of alumni/student protests and now top school officials are distancing themselves from the decision.

Yeah Smoot, the rumor said ND was just trying to beat him to the punch. As I said, who knows!

Sportscenter said ND and Charlie Weiss is practically a done deal. Very interesting.

Wow, Charlie Weiss. Well you know that means-one less "hot candidate" for NFL openings before the name Gregg Williams comes up.

Daseal 12-11-2004 08:38 PM

Charlie Weiss went to school at ND. I still don't think they will have recruiting power. Their academic standards are too high, and most highly recruited high school guys aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. Hell, I love watching players with 4 year degrees from universities struggle to form a full sentence.
