Spurrier on ESPN in

Anybody have a subscription that can see what NFL prospects he has? Just curious what the ol' ball coach is being considered for besides U of F

skin4Life28 10-27-2004 12:48 PM

I know Miami is interested, due to his popularity down there. Wayne Hyzenga is just doin this as a ploy to get fans back in the stadium. Interesting question though, Will the Skins get something out of a NFL team if he coaches again? Since he didn't honor the contract?

MTK 10-27-2004 12:53 PM

I'm pretty sure we wouldn't get anything, Snyder let him walk.

JudgeJebus 10-27-2004 01:03 PM

Yea, we let him go. What we got was not having to pay him $5 million a year for the next three years, which we were obligated to do under the contract. Coaches' contracts are not like players' contracts--you can't just waive the coach and get out of paying him.

the Tarheels have shown some intrest and they are about to fire their Head Coach

Hogskin 10-27-2004 01:25 PM

This is very interesting to watch. On one hand, I'm sure Spurrier would like to prove all of his critics wrong, and show that he DOES have what it takes to succeed as an NFL coach. On the other hand, he can return to the school where he is known, loved, and WORSHIPPED; and coach in an environment where he is almost certain to be successful.

But why in the world would he even consider for one second going back into a situation where he was totally miserable and ridiculed, when he can go back "home", work short hours, golf all he wants, and be throught of as a genius by many, many people??

Could someone clarify why we were never compensated for Deion's walk out and subsequent return to the Ravens?

MTK 10-27-2004 04:29 PM

Snyder let Deion walk, simple as that.

Hogskin 10-27-2004 05:50 PM
Snyder let Deion walk, simple as that.
I would think there was something in for Snyder, for him to do that. Did that eliminate the future salary cap hits, Matty?

SmootSmack 10-27-2004 05:57 PM

Actually Snyder had waived the rights to Deion a couple of years ago when the Raiders wanted to sign him for the playoffs...but then Marty claimed him for San Diego and, not surprisingly, Deion never suited up for the Chargers.

deion gave dan 500,000$ of his 8mill$ signing bonus back, that's it though...

MTK 10-27-2004 08:33 PM

I think Snyder let him walk because they had a good relationship and he did him a favor and set him free so to speak. I don't think it had anything to do with the cap or anything. I could be wrong though.
