Jamal Out?

Somebody correct me if I heard this wrong:

Dan Patrick was just doing an in game tease for Sports Center and he said that the NFL might hand down the suspension on Jamal Lewis tomorrow and it would start Sunday

Are they not going to appeal?

Did I hear right?

I think even if they hand it out Friday, he can go for an appeal immediately- chances are he's playing Sunday night.

EEich 10-07-2004 07:56 PM

He has 5 days to appeal if he chooses to do so.

You're right...he has 5 days to appeal..so basically it will be a Ravens decision..do they start the suspension this Sunday and get it out of the way or do they let the 5 days go by while thinking about appealing before deciding not to appeal...if that makes sense...Basically Billick and company need to decide if they need Jamal Lewis for this game or do they think they can win without him...

Anyone else a bit more scared of Chester Taylor?

EEich 10-07-2004 08:14 PM

If I'm the Ravens... I don't mind starting the suspension with a 1-3 team.

Ok, so I'll admit I'm still a bit confused. I saw this article and it had me wondering if Jamal was sitting out Sunday:
If he is suspended by the NFL, the players association may decide to appeal because the transgression came before he was in the league, although the Ravens said they would accept any penalty.

"We understand that Jamal is also subject to discipline by the NFL," Ravens President Steve Cass added. "We know that the commissioner will look thoroughly at all the circumstances surrounding Jamal's admission. We will accept whatever the commissioner decides."
Fox Radio is reporting that the Ravens have been informed that Jamal Lewis will be suspended for two games and will be fined four week's pay. The decision is expected to be announced on Friday morning. Should Lewis try to appeal the decision, he would almost certainly be available to play on Sunday. If not, the suspension would begin immediately, and Lewis would miss this Sunday's game against Washington and the next game against Buffalo.

We can only hope...

Maybe the Ravens feel that if the NFL suspends him, they ought to just accept that. Hell, he pleaded GUILTY. On what grounds is he going to appeal the NFL ruling? Buying 5 extra days just to play a game kinda flies in the face of the league, if it comes to that. But I've learned never to assume anything as far as the NFL and its players are concerned.

I assume he'll be there because right now, the football gods are frowning on the skins. We'll have to suffer through whatever adversity, including dealing with the Lewises with no Lavar. Ack.

Thanks davy, so I'm not totally crazy. So how do you get Fox Radio out in England, are you listening via Internet?

JWsleep 10-07-2004 09:32 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if he sits against us and Buffalo, so he can come back against PHILLY. We're 1-3 and buffalo is 0-3 (?). We know philly's record.

Here's the Fox story:

cpayne5 10-07-2004 09:45 PM

Lewis is going to be suspended no matter what. Now, he can choose to appeal now and sit later on in the season, or go ahead and get it out of the way.

Just copied that info from Yahoo Sports Pages, personally I can't see how the NFL can suspend him at all as the offence happened before he was an NFL player.
