Ramsey to start - Ravens Game

Rumored on http://www.profootballtalk.com/

Yes, I know that Pro Football Talk is just talk, but.....

Ramsey may just provide a spark if he starts.

that'd be interesting... i'd kinda like to see it, but the ravens aren't exactly the best place to try out a new QB...

illdefined 10-05-2004 12:24 PM

that'd be really surprising. Brunell has stopped turning it over, and his mobility has been needed on the field with all the blitzing. as much as i love Ramsey, i don't know if this is wise. if Ramsey does turn out to be playing over a healthy Brunell, its because Gibbs wants to show the NFL what his receivers can do down field.

SmootSmack 10-05-2004 12:28 PM

I don't think it really says that Ramsey would start the Ravens game does it?

SUNRA 10-05-2004 12:33 PM

I'm sure Gibbs watched how Kyle Boller was manhandled and Ramsey wouldn't last a half with Ray Lewis breathing down his neck. Brunell is doing just fine as the QB. No turnovers, no sacks and no fumbles. Better play calling would help his numbers.

I agree with the fact that at most Brunell should get one more outing to prove his effectiveness. Personally, I am a fan of Patrick Ramsey and think that he should soon be given the opportunity to start.

If any of you believe this crap you must be smoking some serious $hit. Gibbs has praising Brunell all year, and quite frankly I don't think Brunell has done anything to lose his job.

No, but who's going to read a post of mine that has a less contentious tag line?

The opportunity to start is not going to change the playcalling as much as you might think. Every team in the NFL knows how strong Ramsey's arm is and they also know how immobile he is. Ramsey INT's were picked off primarily down field because he watches the receiver all the way down the field and just waits. Brunell's movement in and out of the pocket has allowed the offense to move the ball to get 13 first downs in the Browns game. The play calling in the redzone has to be more aggressive. Brunell is not throwing INTs in the endzone. I haven't been a big fan of any of the QB's for the Redskins since Brad Johnson and find it useless to watch change after change and still no playoff berth. I predict that Ramsey will be traded within two years and another veteran QB will replace Brunell within that same time. Neither QB is doing what we all expected they would be doing.

That's funny RR!

Next time make it more exciting-"Brunell punches fist through wall after Ramsey strolls through locker room with "Who's Starting Now, Bitch?" t-shirt"

Daseal 10-05-2004 12:51 PM

If they're going to blitz use the run and screen-passes effectivly to neutralize it. If they blitz, make them pay. Immobile quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning, Vinnie Testaverde, and Matt Hasselbeck have been struggling. These guys can run when absolutely necessary, but so can Ramsey.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Ramsey get a shot. He made huge mistakes in the redzone vs the Giants, but he moved our team down the field very well. If he can get some snaps with the first unit I think he could certainly aid our offense.

Agree with everything you said

(Just a little bitter, sorry) Let's go ahead and cash in the winning lottery ticket especially since Ramsey never got the proper opportunity to showcase his talents under a truely professional staff. I like and respect Spurrier, but Ramsey was primarily worried about being pummeled because of the schemes that he was supposed to operate under.

For certain you have been pleased with all of Brunell's tremendous feats thus far, including overthowing receivers and having difficulty to see players wide open on the field. I like Brunell as a person and will support him if he proves himself, but Gibbs likes Ramsey and has given him the opportunity to be the future quarterback of this team. If Brunell starts this weekend, I sincerely hope that he provides the coaches, the team and the fans enough confidence as a veteran starter. After Brunell finishes his commitement to the Redskins, as a starter or a backup, Patrick Ramsey will be well inclined to lead the way for many years to come.

SUNRA 10-05-2004 01:21 PM

Take a moment to read today's Washington Post article, "The Redskins Keep Plodding Along."' Several players are commenting about Brunell's performance as a leader and passer for the team. They all point to Brunell's ability to move the ball with a no huddle offense and him calling the plays. Can you believe it? He called the plays in a no huddle offense. They all concur that Brunell was effective and able to prevent the defense from rotating and making a big play. Brunell compeleted five passes in a row. Gardner mentioned that is was working in the first half, but he guessed the Coach wanted to run the ball more. 167 yds. for Gardner last week and 122yds for Coles this week is because of Brunell' ball maintenance. Last point, look at the ball possession for the Redskins and you will see that with the right play calling this team can win the next five games with no problem.

skinsfan0201 10-05-2004 01:25 PM

Regardless, does Brunell give the Redskins the spark they need to win? I remember early in last season when Ramsey was able to bring the Redskins all the way back from a 17 point deficiet. I don't see the same type of passion in Brunell, but I give the Redskins players credit for rallying around their quarterback. Thanks, I subscribe to the Washington Post.
