What the future holds???
 

Well fellow fans I am now officially worried. This team is in trouble. While the defense is good in MOST situations, the offense continues to put them in bad positions with turnovers and penalties. Here is a list of our next 6 games:

This season could turn very ugly, very quickly if this team does not wake the hell up. Yes, I am concerned.....but I still have faith in Gibbs and his staff and the ship will be righted and there are at least 7 more wins to be had before the year is done.

PS. Put Barrow on IR and fire that damn special teams coach!

Or this team could just be ready to bust out. Everybody predicted that it would take at least six weeks for the offense to kick in. They also anticipated that the defense would have to carry the team until then. I don't think anyone anticipated the running game to be virtually nonexistent. This problem will be solved by next week. Look for Ladell Betts and Cartwright if he's healthy to get more carries. This team is not getting its ass handed to them. We are moving along with a light at the end of tunnel. No reason to panic. Since 1999, we've been looking up. Now is the year to stand up and reclaim our crown.

What I don't appreciate about Espn is how they are attempting to magnify 1-11 stat for 3rd down conversions. This stat is misleading. We got 13 first downs for 292 yards total offense. We got the first down on first and second downs and didn't have to rely on third downs. What really killed us was penalties.

Well I think most, if not all, of us would have seen the Giants and Browns games on the schedule and guaranteed victories. But we lost. So there's no guarantee we'll lose to the Ravens and Bears. They could just as easily be wins

But really the Bears? How is that a guaranteed loss?

think it will mean Gibbs biggest challenge ever. a thorough rehaul of his playbook and offensive philosophy for the new NFL and his inherited players. tough to swallow, but looks unavoidable at this point.

I think it's premature to say Gibbs needs to overhaul his playbook. His system will work once the players buy in and execute.

I think Michael Wilbon's and your expectations were a bit high if you are disappointed and suddenly worried.
Gibbs inherited an underachieving, mistake prone, losing team. Did think Gibbs would just walk in, snap his fingers and we would be a super bowl team? It takes a several games to iron out the kinks.
I expected the Redskins to be under .500 in the first half of the season. As you already know, Gibbs started 0-5 in his first season with us. His system takes a little while to master.
I know many fans are frustrated, but maybe you just need to reevaluate your early season expectations.

Execution is what's killing this team. Hold on to the ball, don't drop a catch that hits you in the numbers.

The future for me may involve counceling and a lot of prescription mood enhancers.

I agree it's all about execution right now. Once guys get comfortable in this system and can start playing and not thinking, we'll start to see the results we're expecting.

What the future holds right now is the Ravens. That's all we have to think about. Winning the next game. Not the next 5 or 6. One week at a time. Be patient and keep believing.

One turnover too many has been the deciding factor in our losses. Hold on to the ball and we win. Concentration and execution is the key and to scoring more that 18 points in a game.

Defense....my expectations were not as high as you might think! I certainly didn't expect a team fielded by Gibbs to fumble two (not one, but two) games away due to the inability to protect the football. I thought this first six weeks was going to be tough 1-5 or 2-4 at best and then things would click after the bye week. Like many have said in previous posts, this team is not getting blown out and they are merely beating themselves with the penalties and turnovers.

Am I worried??? Hell yes, but these are all things that can be corrected and if anyone can do it, Gibbs and his staff certainly have the skills and testicular fortitude to handle the situation. The only issue I have is that I don't see improvement with the turnovers and penalties....and oh yes, the damn special teams couldn't tackle you and me if we were running back a kickoff.

One game at a time.

If we play well, we can compete with anyone, and beat most teams. Maybe not the iggle and the Pats right now, but everyone else. Now, can we win? If we execute and keep playing good defense, sure. But it's clear we're not good enough to just show up and run around. We have proven we can lose to anyone too.
