Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
During the morning practice, CB Fred Smoot welcomed recent acquisition, WR D.J. Hackett, to Redskins Park. He then nearly decapitated Hackett on a slant pattern. Welcome to the team.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
I love Smoot! He may have lost a step but we are damn lucky to have him as a 3rd or 4th corner.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
I dunno which of the two that would make the team, either one of them or none of them.

your drinking the kool aid again. the way Smoot played last season, i would be shocked if he made the team. dude couldn't cover me or you |
Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
ok guys smoot will make the team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
Smoot is the new "toast." He was pretty bad last year, and I fully expect Kevin Barnes to push him for the #3 CB spot. He'll make the team because he's too expensive to cut, but he's WAY more bark than bite at this point.

Payback for the Seattle playoff game?

What am I missing on Smoot? I saw every game last year and I don't remember him being a glaring weakness. Shawn Springs used to give up touchdowns against top receivers. Rogers used to give up touchdowns pretty regularly. Our system tends to put corners in make or break spots but I never considered Smoot to be near the liability that Torrence always was. |

That ranks him 70 best in the league, and that's the most flattering statistic I have on him. He broke up seven passes last year, which was only 17 fewer than Rogers and 10 fewer than Hall, in about 3/4s the oppertunities. He picked off one pass, which means he's not even offering turnovers to help with his inability to cover. Basically, I think if you watched all 16 games, at some point, you would have thought to yourself "god, this guy does not belong in the NFL anymore." Smoot has now had one good year in the last 4, so I think if he's a surprise cut in camp in order to try to fit a Doug Dutch, or Byron Westbrook, or depending on how things go in New Orleans, maybe even Leigh Torrence, Smoot's career is probably over. He's a guy who had his best years with the Redskins, and I'm thankful for that, but those years were few and far between. |

I will pay more attention. I am a little leary about stats like that because they don't calculate the talent of the receiver or down and distance. If they tell Smoot to take a 10 yard cushion and he gives up a bunch of catches for 7-9 yards that isn't his fault. I know he was burned on some long balls last year. I would be amazed if Doug Dutch or Bryon Westbrook get a spot over him and they better not bring Torrence back. He is a joke. |
Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
Smoot isn't done. He is the type of corner that will reap the most rewards if our pass rush makes a major leap forward in effectiveness.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
just about any division game last season, Smoot was brutal. there were times when i watched him on particular plays. and he just doesn't have it anymore. sorry to offend anyone

They say Tryon is the favorite for the #4 spot right now. Barnes would have to jump Tryon first and then Smoot as well. I want it to happen, but I don't expect it. |
