ESPN.com's All-Decade Offense/Defense

Interesting stuff here from the ESPN blog network:

Strahan, Taylor lead dominant defense - NFC West - ESPN

There's a bunch of players on there that don't really have that all-decade feel. But ultimately, I think they made some really good choices.

They are announcing the offense on Tuesday. That's likely to devolve into another Brady-Manning debate, but we'll see.

Re: ESPN.com's All-Decade Offense/Defense

As for my opinions on this defense:

Troy Vincent over Ronde Barber is tough to swallow. Even Ty Law might have been a better pick. Still, Vincent is a player who was excellent in the early part of the decade, and it's easy to forget how deserving he is.

I realize that Reed and Polamalu are the two most dominant safeties in today's game, but my team would have included either Rodney Harrison or Brian Dawkins in one of the safety slots.

I think they nailed the linebackers.

Kris Jenkins, I feel, is too much of an underachiever to be on this list. He was two times all-pro by 2003, but prior to 2007, he wasn't really wanted by most teams (including most of the people on here). However, he's at least on the same level as the Strouds, Henderson's, Williams', and Haynesworth's of the world. Any of them would have done.

My prediction for offense:

QB - Peyton Manning
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson
FB - Lorenzo Neal
WR - Marvin Harrison
WR - Terrell Owens
TE - Tony Gonzalez
OT - Walter Jones
OG - Steve Hutchinson
C - Kevin Mawae
OG - Will Shields
OT - Orlando Pace

Troy Vincent has more blocked kicks for us than any of his other teams combined!

The only choices that concern me are Polamalu and Urlacher. Not sure they belong.

What about just the NFC East?

I'd do something like this for the East

QB - McNabb
RB - Westbrook
FB - Madison Hedgecock...I guess
WR - Terrell Owens
WR - Santana Moss or maybe David Boston?
TE - Jason Witten
OT - Chris Samuels and Jon Runyan
OG - Chris Snee and Larry Allen
C - Shaun O'Hara

DT - La'Roi Glover and Cornelius Griffin
DE - Michael Strahan and Greg Ellis
LB - Antonio Pierce, Jeremiah Trotter, and DeMarcus Ware
CB - Troy Vincent, Champ Bailey, and Shawn Springs
S - Brian Dawkins and Sean Taylor

K - David Akers
P - Sean Landetta

Re: ESPN.com's All-Decade Offense/Defense

Would have put Champ in there, but Shawn Springs was better for us in the same amount of time at corner. Champ was a multi-time pro bowler for us, but his career looks a lot more mediocre if you disregard his Denver years, which is something you have to do for an NFC East all decade team.

Screw it, this team is going to start three corners.

All Decade Offense

I don't have too much of a problem with it. I would have taken Peyton Manning over Brady and guys like Matt Birk and Will Shields would be justified being picked also.

Not too much of a problem with either list. Makes me sad to think that ST might have been on it if only...

Funniest player: The NFL doesn't really have an answer to Charles Barkley, although Clinton Portis had a nice run a few years ago when he came up with several alter egos. Let's give it to one of Portis' teammates, tight end Chris Cooley. Occasionally he crosses the line (accidentally publishing a picture of his manhood on The Cooley Zone blog), but he's consistently funny. Still love that he walked out to midfield a couple of years ago and introduced himself to the opposing captains as "Captain Chaos." There's not enough of that type stuff going around.

How could anyone not like Cooley? That's CLASSIC.

Cooley is definitely a throwback type player in a modern market. I think that he would've fit right in with the Hogs/Riggins, etc
