Riggins comments about Joe Gibbs

I am not sure how many guys are local to the DC area but tonight on NBC news George Michaels broke a story about how Riggins questioned Gibbs commitment to the team, and basically said that Gibbs wishes he would have never come back.
Needless to say, George Michael was pissed. He was almost in tears when he was denying Riggins allegations. He said he will definitely be asking Riggins what the hell his problem is and what the hell he was thinking this Saturday on "Redskins Report".
My personal opinion is that Riggins was a great Redskin and has always been known to speak his mind, but after saying something like that he really should apologize. There is no place for comments like that, especially during Dallas week.
What are the thoughts of the forum?

perhaps Riggo has been boozin' again?

I think Riggins absolutely hates Snyder and has not really participated in any Redskins events including The 70 Greastest Redskins. It's sad. But Mark Bavaro of the Giants feels the same way about the Giants front office. Riggins spoke about Snyder's big bankroll and his ability to get big name players. Maybe Riggo wished he had that kind of signing bonus.

Here's what Bugel had to say:

Bugel was taken aback when informed of comments former Redskin John Riggins made about Gibbs on his radio talk show. "I really don't like saying this," Riggins said on Sirius radio, "but it's what I think and feel so I have to say it. I don't think Joe Gibbs is right yet. I think there's uncertainty in Joe Gibbs. I think that Joe Gibbs is somewhat pre-disposed, and that he's thinking about other things. I use the term psychological splitting, he's there as the head coach, but he's really somewhere else."

Bugel responded: "I'm awfully disappointed if Riggo said that. . . . If he said that it's totally wrong and I'd say that right to his face."

Love the Riggins that played for the Redskins, don't like the person he's become.

Gibbs is the consumate pro and for someone to say he's not totally in it shows that he doesn't have the facts. There hasn't been one error that you could blame on Gibbs. The players are the ones to blame if blame is needed.

RedskinRat: Playcalling has been mediocre at best. He doesnt seem to adapt the system for Portis. I'm still skeptical just as I would be if we were 2-0 with convincing wins.

Time will prove who is right. Riggins clearly said that his comments were his opinion. To that I say what I always say to all opinions, they are a dime a dozen.

Here is my opinion if you're interested in hearing it:

I think the Redskins would be better off if I was their head coach. I would bring instant respect, credibility, and a Madden/NFL2K5 winning tradition unlike any other to the table.

You know if it weren't for Joe Gibbs, no one would even remember John Riggins except that he was some football guy who wore a mohawk. Riggins, most know, was retired for a year when Gibbs went to Kansas to convince him to come back to the Redskins in Gibbs' first year.

Riggins' comments are foolish, bizarre, and unjust - and soon to be forgotten.

SmootSmack 09-24-2004 02:10 AM

More of what Riggo said: "I'm wondering if he's starting to say 'Gosh . . . is this the right decision I wanted to make here?' And I think it's translating into his offense because they don't seem to be forceful. Is this a trend or is this just something that's going to work its way out as the season goes on?"

Gibbs said, "I'd have to ask John what he meant by that."

Just two weeks ago, Riggins was talking about this team being a "lock" for the playoffs. Sounds like he's just trying to draw attention to himself and his show. I think the comments are completely out of line after just two games

Thanks Smoot. There is another side to this that I really like and it's how passionate George got about this. I feel the same way he does. Joe Gibbs has two games under his belt and is still adjusting. His team is still adjusting. What an assanine thing to say. However, it is nice to see fans passionate about the skins again. Could you imagine anybody tearing up with anger over a comment about Spurrier?

Keep us posted about what happens when these two confront each other.....

Riggins never sold out. Maybe it's not too late to get a stipend from Snyder!?
