I voted "I am not sure". I think that this weekend he should start because the Giants O does not seem to be coming together and I think that our D should pretty much dominate them. But I can understand Williams not starting him yet, I am sure that when Williams feels that Taylor is ready then Williams will unleash the animal on the league. I mean remember guys Taylor is young and the NFL is new to him...

On the other hand I think that in last weeks game there were a couple of plays that made me wonder if ST was playing would have he made the int instead of just breaking up the play?

Either way I think that Taylor will play and make the most of it when he does!

First of all, let it be known that I am biased; Williams is the aggressive, smart, and hard-working defensive coordinator that we need and so I more than likely to defer to his judgment on most team issues.

Even though I have not seen a lot of game tape of Sean Taylor, he is about as talented a defensive player as I have ever seen. To borrow a cliche that has been frequently used to describe Taylor, "he's a monster." So, initially, I am extremely tempted to say that he should be starting the game no matter what (including the fact that he is a rookie).

However, I think the need to enforce team discipline is more important than the need to secure a single top notch player at any given position. Moreover, the need to promote a sense of competition at each position is important; players far down the depth chart tend to play better if they feel they have a shot to get a starting nod. Finally, and this relates to my first point, Taylor is a star rookie, but he needs to learn how the NFL operates, how life works, and that no one deserves more than what they put out (even if they were the 5th overall pick in the draft).

So, I completely agree that Taylor should not start until Williams believes he is ready and is putting forth sufficient effort.

I agree RF, I too fall in to the category of having complete trust in this staff and the decisions they make.

Taylor's time will come, but Williams isn't going to put him in to the starting lineup until he feels he absolutely deserves to be the starter. Nobody is going to be handed anything with this staff.

If he is fit to start he should otherwise he should ride the bench. Same goes for every player on the team. Clearly, the reason why he is currently not starting is because his has some deficiencies. I think I'll just let the coaches decided when it's time for him to start.

I think there is no reason why he should not be starting. Our defense looked great last week but I dotn think it had anything to do with Lott. i dotn think lott looked impressive at all, and frankly I think we gave up a lot of plays that Taylor could have helped to stop. If Taylor had been in the game I think we would have done better. One of the plays he was in he forced a fumble on a bad call by the refs. He makes plays and Lott didnt make any. Theres no reason why someone as talented as him shouldnt be on field learning. He wont get better on the sidleines, and Lott wont ever be as good as he is now.

I don't think it's a secret that I have been pumping up Taylor since I found out we had the #5 pick, and look for him to go down as an all time great, but I trust that William's is very aware of his talent, as well he know's that although he can make a big play for us, he could also cost us a game with a mental error back there, it's only a matter of time before he's the man back there, until then, Lott has played very well for us, he's also been here 3 year's, no need to slap a veteran in the face, when he's held up his end of the bargain, even if a player is not on the field, his attitude is still an important part of team chemistry, and setting a tone for winning football, the coaches can create that through being fair to the player's, jumping a player for an undeserved rookie, could cause some anomosity, not that Lott is unaware of his situation, and know's his time is short lived at Taylor's saftey postion, but Lott is also receiving right now valuable learning expierience in this defense, which will only make us a better team in the long haul, I want taylor out there yesterday, but William's know's what he's doing, I do believe he really went out of his way to try and convince Gibb's to draft him, and he didn't do that so he can sit him on the bench, It is only a matter of time.

i disagree, lott played a wonderful game. and if im not mistaken, taylor was beat bad by galloway in the endzone and it should have been six easy. taylor is doing exactly what i think he should... ease his way in the starting lineup. he seems fragile emotionally and you dont want to throw him out to the sharks or just bench him. IMO williams is doing exactly what should be done. enough playing time to help him get experienced yet being on the sideline looking from the outside in on plays helps alot more than you think. people will always understand things looking from the outside looking in.

I think Taylor will start. He'll make his share of mistakes, but he has the big play ability that we lack in the secondary. I'd like to see what happens when we use Taylor like we used Bowen last week.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but I disagree with the very premise of the poll - especially in the light of the Greg Williams interview on skins.com where he says its misleading to call someone a defensive starter just because they're on the field for the first defensive series.

In Williams D, someone could be considered a starter if they don't play the first few series, but are on the field for most of the game.

Are we saying that we want Sean Taylor to be in a 100% of the defensive packages and Lott in 0% or a small minority of them? Not advisable - I'm sure the staff sees that Lott has strengths that Taylor doesn't yet, and would therefore be more suited to certain packages than the latter.

they said that taylor was by far the best guy on the special teams units last week, that's a huge plus for him...

i personally want to see him stay on the field 60 minutes a game, he's insanely talented, BUT i understand he still needs to learn some details of the NFL game and that's why he's been held back a bit. hopefully he can learn the rest of the packages and rush opposite of bowen and cause some real nightmares ;)... imagine a safety with 12 sacks and 8 ints a season... I'm not usually so high on anyone, but i think he honestly could end up as the best safety in the league with some experience.

I totally trust Gregg Williams and what he is trying to do. In his interview, he mentioned that his defense is designed to play a lot of players. And that the player that starts doesn't necessarily stay in the entire game. That's exactly what we need. I like all of you was very impressed with Sean Taylor, but let's face it we are not seeing the mistakes he made in practice and training camp. He did make a mistake in covering Joey Galloway and it almost cost him 6. So let's wait and see how much he is utilized.

Williams is considered one of the best defensive minds in football for a reason so I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with this one. Williams knows how much of a monster he has in Taylor but from some of the things said and done on the field, Taylor still doesn't seem to fully respect the speed of nfl wrs so while I'd love to see him on the field as much as possible cuz he's a huge playmaker, right now he could still be a big playmaker but in the wrong way if he doesn't respect the speed of the game.
