Driving To DC And Have A Question About Traffic

I'm driving up from Tidewater Va to the Crystal Gateway Marriott off of I-395 (Henry G Shirley MemorialHwy) and I'm wondering about traffic. I was thinking about leaving around 1:00 and its a 3 hour drive. Am I going to hit a ton of traffic as I need to be there by 5:30?

What day of the week?

I use to work at that Marriott.

If you're driving today, be advised that it's snowing up here, and it's supposed to turn to an icy mix later this evening. I've only come up this way from the south a few times, but typically the worst traffic in the late afternoon is heading out of DC area, not into it.

It will probably be ok by afternoon tomorrow but I'd keep checking the weather. Discounting possible weather you'll be hitting the mixing bowl and 395 smack during rush hour. Your direction is against traffic which will help immensely. I'd add an hour just to be sure.

Thanks for the info and I'm giving myself 2 hours as it is and if I'm a little late tomorrow it no big deal. Our main meeting is on Thursday. I think that leaving Thursday at 4:30 pm is going to be my biggest problem with trafffic.

We have a winter weather advisory until noon tomorrow. You'll get some volume, but you'll be going against traffic for the most part. If possible, I'd suggest not going home at 4:30 if possible. Not sure exactly how you come up, but I know 66 rolls slow at that time of day.

If he's is going 95 south then it'll be slow until occoquan at least at 4:30. Leaving on thursday at 4:30 will be much worse than coming in at 4 on Wednesday.

The main roads are just fine. Side streets are pretty icy, but the freezing rain/sleet will gradually turn to normal rain as the day progresses and temps get close to 40. You shouldn't have any weather releated issues.

If you see a motorcade that's my boy Obama in it. Those Secrete Service agents don't play so don't make any sudden moves and you'll be alright.

I hear the new presidential limo can only make left turns.

That's not entirely true, it can make right turns but left turns are preferred since all traffic is blocked upon its arrival. That's how we roll now.

Talking about turning did you know that UPS has all of their routs set up so they almost always are making right turns. It was wild how much money they save on gas and time doing this and they will drive out of their way to make a right turn. Have a good day it time for me to head north.

Yes I did, hence the "all traffic is blocked upon its arrival" reference.

Peace out.
