Re: Scary stuff going down in India
The scale of this attack is breathtaking. There are some sick, twisted, and evil m'fers in this world.

Re: Scary stuff going down in India
I wish I could say I am surprised and shocked. No one is safe from demented people who believe they are morally justified in their cause. I hope the hostages are freed without harm.

Re: Scary stuff going down in India
The news reports say that the chief of the Mumbai Terrorism Squad is dead, shot three times in the chest. I applaud a culture where leadership means leading from the front. That man desreves a state funeral.

Re: Scary stuff going down in India
Reading that makes me glad I grew up in a society without such turmoil and violence. I wish there was a better way to put that, but w/e works I guess. I'm just glad if I ever have kids they won't have to expose themselves to such a violent way of life at such an early age.
And I hear ya 70Chip. The best example of leadership is being at the forefront imo, and that's exactly what that Hemant Karkare was doing. His family should be proud of him, although I'm sure they are going to be grieving along with everybody else now that it's over. My heart goes out to all the victims in this, I can't imagine the pain and trouble they are going through right now. |
Re: Scary stuff going down in India
I was just at Mumbai this summer, right outside the Taj hotel and some of those other places. Security is very low in those areas so it is kinda difficult.
It is interesting because radical Islamic terrorist is something India is been dealing with for many years, and now it is something plaguing the world. I was also in the state of Gujarat in India and there were multiple bombings in the summer. They bombed outside hospitals to kill as many as possible. The main problem in India is terrorism will never stop. Muslim terrorists will bomb places because they feel discriminated against, and then hindus will react(like they did in 01) and burn villages. And it is only getting worst because the Muslim population is growing at a much faster rate than hindus. |
Re: Scary stuff going down in India
We'll see who is behind this, but one strong possibility is a group supported by the Pakistani security force, the ISI. In fighting a long-term clandestine war against India, the ISI has unleashed such wonders as the Taliban. Pakistan is going to be a big issue in the next 5-10 years.
Horrible stuff. |
Re: Scary stuff going down in India
That is one thing that pisses me off. We are in this global battle on terrorism, yet Pakistan is still one of our major allies. We give them tons of money, weapons, etc. Pakistan harbors terrorists even in their capital city, from all accounts. The government turns a blind eye towards terrorists carrying out plots in India, because anti-US sentiment is high amongst the public.
I know we need a base in the MidEast, but last time we gave people guns and weapons they used it against us later(Afghans). |

I guess your talking about living in the USA but have you looked at how many people are killed here each year in our inner cities or all over the US for that matter. People talk about how many we have lost in Iraq but we have lost alot more kids here at home in senseless killings. It just becomes a blurb in the news and things move on. If you look at the terrorist deaths in India over the past couple of years and our death rates here we would win that sad race easy. Just yesterday we thought back to what happend to us here in Redskins Nation with the killing ST but that happens countless times everyday here in the US. While I agree to a point with what you said I just don't think we are free from the terror in our own street by our own people. |

Oh come on. You can't sit there and pretend the US is just as bad. We don't have militant insurgents walking down streets with AK-47's in their hands, I mean yeah we have gangs and criminal organizations that use criminal tactics to get what they want, but the death rate cannot be as bad as some of the countries where bloodshed is an every day occurence. Now I don't have statistics to back me up on this, but all the same I feel that the United States is a lot safer than countries like India. |
Re: Scary stuff going down in India
Something struck me as odd today. The news kept describing the Lubavitcher Jews as "ultra orthodox". I follow religion somehat and I was not previosly aware of such a classification. And when I hear something like that I wonder about motives. You could almost translate the word ultra in this context as "these people are crazy too". Strange.
Update: Apparently the term "ultra orthodox" has been used to describe the Lubavitch though they understandably consider it to be pejoritive. From a linguistic standpoint the phrase is certainly redundant if not absurd. It's like saying "ultra pregnant". (I'm surprised the Palin daughter didn't get this designation) Orthodox is a word that has meaning and this seems to be lost on news people and other secularists. Again, when I hear such terms in the press I interpret them as an attempt on the part of people to whom religion is completely foreign to basically say "people we don't like and we don't want you to like them either". |

See that is the problem people just ignor the high murder rate in this country becasue it is mainly one person at a time and not mass murder. We are ranked in the to 50 of countries and its scary some of the ones that have a lower murder rates. ok, so i looked at your link, not sure what you feel it proves, but 5.5 /100000 is not equivalent to walking down streets and having roving bands killing innocents. And as the article itself states
The reliability of underlying national homicide rate data may vary.[1] A comparative analysis of homicide data must be conducted carefully. This is because the legal definition of ‘homicide’ differs among countries. Homicide may or may not include assault leading to death, infanticide and assisted suicide or euthanasia. Homicide demographics are affected by changes in trauma care, leading to changed lethality of violent assaults, so the homicide rate may not necessarily indicate the overall level of societal violence.[2] They may also be underreported for political reasons
I hate when people portray America as a place to live in fear. American society has gotten worse because fear has been used as "propaganda" to make government more invasive. but that probably is:offtopic: |

I understand your point Firstdown, but all I'm saying is that America is nowhere near as bad as those countries where fear dictates what you can and can't do. FD, you're making it sound like you can't let your child play outside for fear that some radical with an assault rifle will gun them down for living in a household that caters to a different religion. If you are one of those type people, then ok w/e I'm not telling you how to live. But I don't necessessarily agree with your train of thought. |

America is getting safer.
