what does profootball weekly know?
This is what PFW had to say in todays "the way we hear it". It's not at all how I feel the way camp is going.
Aug. 23, 2004 It’s still early, but observers say that the offensive players are not fully grasping the new offense of head coach Joe Gibbs. Part of the problem might be the fact that Gibbs has not thrown the entire package at the team yet, which has affected QBs Mark Brunell and Patrick Ramsey the most. Most still feel as if Brunell will start, and he has the lead over Ramsey, but neither has been outstanding. The play of the offensive line is also a work in progress, and no full-time replacement for ORT Jon Jansen has been found. Kenyatta Jones, a converted guard who is suffering from bone spurs, and Ray Brown are the leading candidates, but both have been just OK so far. Read past WWHI's for Washington > |
the offensive line has looked pretty damn good to me, and Jones has been solid
|
that what I thought.

pro football weekly doesnt hear anything, they make it up im pretty sure. Seems to be the case pretty consistently atleast.
Gibbs runs a complex offense, it will take some time but he also knows how to call plays, and will call to the strengths of his team. You cant base anythign on the preseason games, they dont run his offense much there. |
Besides last week when has our run game looked good? We have far and away the most carries (granted we have played 3 games, but over twice what many teams have, and I haven't seen us throw the ball. Our defense has looked great, but I'm still not sure the offense will be ready! Let's hope it shapes up by then.
|
I think the offense will take a few weeks to start hitting on all cylinders. Remember when we were all saying that after Stevie took over? This time it has meaning. I am still concerned about the dline and their ability to stop the run up the gut. I think this will truely be the tester for this team as the year progresses. You can blitz all you want, but you have to stop the run to win in this league, especially the NFC EAST.
|
I think if our line can't they'll just toss a safety up there. Greg Williams will somehow find a way to stop the run.
|
Jesus, there practices are now completely closed to the public, so PFW is talking out of its ass.
Or maybe they just didnt watch the Dolphin game. |

daseal, with the exception of a couple of teams, no offenses are running on all cylinders. that doesn't mean we have problems at the o line or qb. pfw does'nt know jack. |

Unfortunately I think it might be next season before they are hitting on all cylinders. You have to remember its a completely new coaching staff and of course a totally different roster, I fear we might have to exercise more patience... |

never say that, before the season starts we have to be optomistic! super bowl or bust! lol |
Oldswill: I realize that. However I am a bit concerned. We have two pre-season games ready and we've only looked decent offensively in one. If we also look solid against the Rams, I'll be much more comfortable.
|
I still say it is impossible to say how the offence is working untill september 12th only then will we see the Gibbs game plan...
|
When this was written, it was true.
|
I'm unconcerned, there are still two more preseason games to go, and the 1st team offense should play about at least a half and maybe more.
I have the utmost of confidence in Coach Gibbs, and learning his offense is a process that will take time. It's not a one year deal, but the players are getting more comfortable every week and there's still plenty of time left before the season starts. Until the offense starts to really click our defense should be able to keep us competitive. |
