Redskins Retired Numbers...

As most already know the only number to ever be "truely" retired by the Redskins was the number 33 which belonged to the great Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh. However, there are numbers now that are "un-officially" retired, Joey T. #7, Monks #81, Greens #28, and the list goes on.

With all of this being said, my question is does Sean Taylors number get added to that list? Will we ever see a #21 take the field again for the Redskins? Was Sean Taylor too young to be put into that list of players? Thoughts...

I don't think you have to worry about anyone coming to DC and trying to wear the #21. I won't say ever but it will be a really long time if at all for someone to wear 21 again.

I think it will be taken out. The number was used almost exclusively as the symbol of tribute. So I think there would be an outcry if they did reissue.

Don't forget #42, #43, #44. It still amazes me the after years of being out of circulation, #49 & #70 were reissued, and to stiffs!

Sean should have his retired, but I doubt he will. And honestly, I'd rather see some others get retired first: 9 & 49 top my list.

7 & 9 were reissued very briefly as well.

I am in no way worried about the #21 being put back into the # pool anytime soon, it was just a thought. I mean he was in only his 4th year and he was a young talent for the Redskins. Is that enough to put the #21 in to an "untouchable" list of #'s?

Very few teams retire alot of numbers... once you start the precident, then you have to keep it up... and then run out of numbers to issue.

To whom? The Redskins media guide makes no mention of this.

If anyone, regardless of skill and talent tries to wear #21, I'm sure there will be hell to pay. I don't see it being retired, but it won't be worn for many, many years.

I am sure to be attacked on here... but I don't see it that way. I could make ALOT of arguements for the number staying in rotation, but how about the fact that at least THREE of the 70 Greatest wore that number (Byner, Nelms, Allen) All three of them had more productive careers with the Skins than ST... he had potential, but it was not realized.

I do see the point, but exactly when do you reissue it? Next season? 5 years? There is a PR gamble that I frankly don't think is worth taking. Look at this site. How many people DON'T have ST tributes attached to them? I have to reiterate my point that from shirts to towels to helmet decals, 21 became the way everybody conveyed the remembrance.

BTW, where is the guy that said 7 & 9 were re-issued, I dying to know this!
