Eagles' cap goof

Double trouble? Bonus goof could hit Eagles cap

An accounting mistake that resulted in running back Brian Westbrook being paid his $3 million roster bonus twice could have salary cap ramifications for the Eagles.

Well, while funny, it doesn't sound like it will be an major impact... leave it to anyone from Philly... they don't know which way is up.

That injury prone fool better cough up the 3 mil. As per PFT Sat. one liners they might need that cash to sigh LaVar....he wants that to be his next stop?

SATURDAY AFTERNOON ONE-LINERS

The extra money paid to RB Brian Westbrook came in the form of a $3 million roster bonus that was paid twice. (In unrelated news, LB LaVar Arrington wants to sign with the Eagles.)

Yeah, from the sounds of it Westbrook will pay back the $3M minus the taxes he has already paid on it. Sounds like it won't be too major, but it's funny nonetheless. Someone in accounting got fired!

So, LaVar wants to do the tour of the ENTIRE NFC East? So, 1 year with the Giants, 1 year with the Eagles.... and then one year as Jerry Jones's water boy?

the eagles always get the front office praise for cap management. i wonder what Joe Banner has to say about this? and Westbrook only had a 3 million dollar signing bonus? thats cheap for him

It was his roster bonus, not his signing bonus. He signed a 5 year extension mid-season in 2005.

He must love that team because if my boss made a mistake and gave me an extra 3 million, I am keeping it. Well until the lawyers say I have to give it back anyway.

And they deserve it. They have a knack for putting good teams on the field.

If our front office made a 3 million dollar accounting error with our salary cap, it would catastrophic.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if this wasn't just a 'bonus' that was given to him and then someone blew the whistle. Conspiracy Theories forever.

Someone needs to remove that bottle from LaVar's nightstand.

I disagree. I am tired about hearing how Philly is a "premier" manager of the cap. They have won 0,NADA,NONE,ZIPPO,ZILCH Super Bowls. I think it is time for everyone to dispense with praising teams who supposedly manage the cap well but never seem to win the big one. Maybe they don't manage the cap so well. Maybe they just fit into the preconcieved notion of how to manage the cap. The preconceived notion that a team like say NE has disproven somewhat since they build their teams much more through FA than does Philly. And they have had a few more SBs wins than Philly.

At the end of the day who gives a flying frick if your team does a great job managing the cap if they can't win a SB?

Looks to me like Philly knows how to build a cheap team and coach them well enough to compete. Maybe if they gave Reid more tools they'd have won some SBs. So that's good cap management? Cap management is not independent of on field results.

I gotta strongly disagree here. Philly wins, and they seem to do it every year since Fat Andy got there. Even when McNabb is hurt they win most of the time. Hell, they swept us last year. Since the whole free agency/salary cap inception, they have been a much better team than the Redskins. They've been to 4 NFC Championships games and a Super Bowl since we've done squat. Matter of fact, over the past 6 years or so, they have been consistently the best team in the NFC (booooo). I know they've never won a Super Bowl and we have three, but we've only been to the playoffs twice since 1991, so we aren't exactly world beaters anymore. I'm not trying to bash the Skins, nor am I trying to suck up to the Eagles, I'm just looking at facts here. We have no business criticizing anyone's front office.

They ARE good at managing the cap. How come they field very good teams year in and year out without blowing their wad on overhyped, underachieving free agents?? They have solid coaching, a good front office, CHEMISTRY, and veteran leadership. Frankly I'm jealous of their success in recent years. We could learn from the way they run an organization, as much as it makes me sick to say so.
