Broncos Release Al Wilson
I know he's a middle linebacker, I wonder how he'd play on the outside? Why would the Broncos release a 1st round pick, 4 time pro-bowler? I know he was due some money, but so what? He's only 29 and he's a team leader and a monster on the field. And since he's a free agent now, we wouldn't have to give up anything to get him. Granted we did just give a MLB a $25M contract, but it's intriguing nonetheless....
Here's a link to a press release: SI.com - NFL - Reports: Broncos to release Wilson - Friday April 13, 2007 2:42PM |

Steady.... Let's just stay put on this one.... I mean... Do we have to jump at everything that is released?

Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
I guess his injury last year was more serious than initially expected.

Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
Remind that if Wilson passed physicals would be a Giant right now...

Nooooo, nor was I suggesting we go get him. But this is a significant thing, because Al Wilson is one of the best LBs in football. And since this is a Redskins fan forum, and since the Redskins have been actively pursuing LBs (Briggs, Fletcher, etc), it's worth mentioning. |
Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
He clearly can't play.

No Thanks.

Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
comin off a neck injury, maybe he's not recovering at a pace they're comfortable with considering his salary.
The good thing is that we didn't just bite on the trade offer earlier , although it sounded pretty good. I don't like the idea of signing him overall, but if he would play backup mlb for vet. min it might be a great pickup. It wouldn't matter that he'd need time to learn the d & get healthy since LF would be starting. The reason I don't like the idea of signing him overall is simply roster space & chemistry would be impacted. We've gained some stability this year, let's not screw w/it. |
Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
Nothing too serious....just a NECK injury that caused him to fail a Giants physical. Note to self...don't sign LBs with neck injuries who could be paralyzed at any moment.

Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
I hope everyone doesn't think that by me posting this thread I was suggesting we go sign the guy. I just thought it was interesting, especially since he was one of the names being discussed in that old Bly trade thing.

Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
Might be worth it if he excepts less money or a back ended-non guarunteed contract to ensure he overcomes his injury. He was one of the better LB's.

Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
It's definately worth a thread. Wilson is a pretty significant player, even if his neck injury may ultimately end his career.

Re: Broncos Release Al Wilson
I would not be surprised in the least bit though.... if he visites Redskins Park this weekend. Just throwing it out there... We love free agents. Our Redskin staff can not get enough of them... They have absolutely no confidence in the draft. None what so ever!

yeah, forgot about the failed physical. Good note to self! If we sign him, would he get to wear #56 like he did in denver, or has the Danny already made plans to retire that no. & hang it from the rafters of Fedex? |
