Is Sammy Knight a solution at Safety?

Just saw the Chiefs cut Sammy Knight. Although he has 10 years in the league does anyone know if he is still any good? Is he primarily a cover safety that would compliment Sean Taylor or is his style like AA?

I think Sammy Knight is a more than solid player but not for us in my opinion. He's not great against the pass and I could see us having the same problems we had with Arch. I'd pass

i think he is known for his tackling rather than his coverage

he's alright i just like watching him dive at santana moss in the game in 05 and moss just runs right past him and knight just goes into the bench sliding hilarious but he is a good player just not for us

We're not going to pass on a DL to get Landy unless someone in the front office is insane, and yes we should go after Knight. He's getting older, but he can cover (check his record) and still gets a lot of tackles. He would legitimately beat out our other safeties (other than ST, whom he would help stabilize) and end the idea that Springs might be needed at safety. In my opinion, Knight's still better at his position than Rogers and Smoot are at theirs. Teams will throw at our corners, not our safeties. Knight has a history of timely interceptions and will not make mistakes or be easily beaten. I think he had in the neighborhood of eighty tackles last year and has never been a liability on coverage. Why do you guys think he has been? He's being cut because of money and a very talented young guy behind him, not because he can't play.

you sound like someones dad giving them hell. and i think knight is a fine player, he isnt for the skins. almost the same kind of safety as archelutta.

Everyone needs to stop reading that Landry thread over there. It's twisting your perception.

"There". You know what I mean. :D

I just find it interesting that while many of us frequent both sites, there's this HUGE Landry thread over "there" and now apparently Landry is an option?!

no. I believe preilou(never spell it right) if healthy, which he should be, will play just fine. He was going to be starting over Arch last year anyway. Stoutmier filled in nicely when he was here. Plus with us likely keeping Springs that gives us 3 good corners and if Bly comes that is 4, with springs possibly playing more of a safety role. I think Rogers, Smoot, Springs, Preilou, Stoutmier, Taylor, Fox, Doughty, and possibly Bly would give us a lot of options.
