I just bought a new phone, a Sony Ericsson W 810i, which is a walkman. I subscribed to Napster online, and I cant transfer the songs to my new walkman/phone. Incompatible.

The phone came with fifty free songs form emusic.com which sucks ass. No def leppard, no G love, no nothing I want, just a bunch of bullshit.

Where can I go that will give me access to all the songs of Napster, but will be compatible with my phone??

I know this isn't the best thread ever or anything, but Im in a jam and need some advice and you guys claim to be smart....

Just make your iTunes songs compatible with you 810i: burn & rip.

Napster uses Windows Media Format (WMA 10 w/ DRM) and it seems that no one has yet cracked it. While your phone can play WMA and MP3, your phone recognizes only Sony's own ATRAC DRM format.

Unless you want to start hating your phone and stare at your computer screen all day you might want to just use Sony's [URL="http://musicstore.connect.com/"]Sonic Stage software[/URL] and start using their Connect music service.

Whoops. Sorry. When I read it, for some reason Napster was translated to iTunes when my brain interpreted it. The solution still holds though; just replace 'Napster' with 'iTunes' in my post. :D

I have a W810i myself & I just use a ripper software to turn my CD's into MP3 & then use the packaged software that came with my phone (Disc2Phone or something) to transfer the tracks to my memory card.

Might be different for you as I'm in the UK but I've never had any problems with sending MP3's over...even those track's downloaded

I have the Disc2phone software, but when I attempt to drag over the tracks I've downloaded from napster (even though they're recognized as music files on the left side of the menu) it tells me no playable media is recognized and won't let me drag them over...

When I downloaded the ones from e-music it worked just fine, but emusic has no selection at all and I have a nice collection on my computer from napster already...

The Sony place makes you pay per song as well, but you're supposed to be able to just pay 15 bucks a month and put the songs on your MP3 player from napster... i just cant get the disc2phone software to rip them...

Take my advice from yesterday and your problem will be solved. ;)

Your phone supports mp3 files. Not DRM'd AAC or DRM'd WMA. Just mp3. Your Napster files are DRM'd WMA. That is why disc2phone won't let you add those files to your phone. On the Napster front page is says "...you can fill and refill any compatible MP3 player without paying per song". Note the keyword 'compatible'. Your phone is not compatible.

okay... I thought that program was just for CD files... I'm gonna try it.

The only problem is that every time I "burn" a track to that conversion software I have to BUY it from napster, which is what I'm trying to avoid...

I get what you're saying, but I'm gonna be pretty upset if I got this stupid phone and can't play music on it without paying per song. I can think of about 10,000 songs I'd like to put on it and have alot of room with the 4G. Memory Stick, but I don't have 10,000 dollars to pay to fill it up! I only want to pay a subscription, just like all of the other numb-nutz ipod owners out there.

Emusic offers that service, but they have obselete music. I want a place to go download mainstream MP3's (not the file types my phone won't read) and pay a subscription if I only use them on my portable music player...

If there's a way to avoid being charged per song on Napster for burning them, which you have to do with that software in order to convert them to MP3's please let me know...

How do you have to buy it? Don't you already own songs that you want to convert?

You pay 15 bucks a month for "Napster to go" which allows you unlimited downloads to up to 3 computers and your digital music device.

If you want to burn a CD you have to pay like .99/track. If I could just plug&play with my walkman I'd have no problem and the software CPayne suggested acts as if its burning the tracks to a CD, which then prompts me to pay for them individually...

Gotcha.

Try allofmp3.com

before they get shut down. Music is cheap and they claim it is legal. It is debateable.
