WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
Not to heap bad news on a sour group, but the Washington Post's Jason LaConfora reported this afternoon on the WP Insider that Springs told him that he will almost certainly miss the Cowboys game. Maybe you can chalk this one up to subterfuge, but I think it's no B.S. given the severity of the injury.
If Springs does in fact miss Sunday's game and given Prioleau's absence, I cannot possibly see how our pass-defense will not get eaten alive. The After Blog - Redskins Insider |
Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
The big difference between the Vikes and Dallas is this... the offensive line.
Brad Johnson had all day to throw. I doubt Bledsoe will have the same amount of time. That might be our saving grace. We need the front four to make some serious noise to help out the secondary. |
Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
Well, I've heard the apologists all day long dismiss the cream puff pass rush to what many suddenly recognize as a "great Minnesota offensive line."
Oh that's right. I forgot. There should be no reason to think we can pressure the quarterback when faced with great offensive linemen. Silly me. Funny, I doubt those same people were singing the praises for the Vikings front line before September 11th. According to many of the comments, it was going to be a cake-walk. So now that we're facing an offensive line that reportedly isn't as talented or dominant as that steamrolling juggernaut from up North, maybe, just MAYBE we'll get a sack or two from the starting defensive ends. Let's just hope we don't see too many other "great offensive lines" this season. |
Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
Beems, did you see the left side of that line last night in pass protection?
McKinnie, Hutchinson and Birk. Tell me that's not a rock freaking solid trio. In fact, show me a better left side in this league. I think Hutchinson's impact was far greater than anybody expected. I laughed when the Vikings gave him $7M a year, now I'm definitely not laughing. |
Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
rogers on t.o.....man we are screwed. we better put some double teams with taylor on t.o.

Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas

My point was to respond to people who dismiss the poor performance of the D-line because they faced great offensive linemen. Using that logic, when do the excuses stop? ... "Dallas has great receivers, we weren't going to be able to shut them down." "The Giants have good pass rushers. What? Did you think we were going to be able to protect Brunell today?" "Atlanta has a strong running game. You didn't honestly believe we were going to stop them, did you?" At what point can we rely on the players we've collected to answer all of the "great" opponents they'll face this season? Isn't that the whole reason we signed Andre Carter to a nice contract? To help out the pass rush? to me, that sounds like we'll only be able to count on him if the guy he's lined up against is a slug. |
Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
I'll tell you what, we need to give Springs some illegal drugs or somthing, because if he's not on the field we could be in deep deep trouble. I agree with matty that the Dal line isnt as good as the Minnesota line....but we still should have gotten alot more pressure on minnesota than we did. Our defensive line was supposed to be one of the anchors of our defense, and they did not show that Monday Night. Pressure is going ot be HUGE, becasue Bledsode will make mistakes; thats a given. But if Bledsoe has the type of time Johnson had....we'll lose by 20+ points, easy.

Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
No Springs equals huge trouble for us. No Springs and no pressure from the d-line means we could be seeing a blowout the porportion of which we dished them out last year.

Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
Think Matty has a point, yeah Carter wasn't even mentioned, but neither was Cornelius Griffin. did he just suddenly start to suck? I'm hoping it's more a statement about the Vikes then us.
pressure will be CRITICAL next game. our linebackers and safeties will have to be super on-point to cover the dump offs because at this point i'd rather send Rogers and Rumph as blitzers than try and cover the cowboys receivers. who the hell were the vikes receivers to embarass us like that? always said Springs was the most important player on the defense, and at his age, my biggest wonder this offseason was why we didn't make one of those big news trades for the cornerback position - did we REALLY need Lloyd? did we REALLY need Duckett? good trades yes, but we NEED a corner! |
Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
I agree, I think corner will prove to hurt us in the time that Springs is absent. We better draft a corner or sign a dependable one in free agency this offseason.

Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
we need to get springs that hyperbaric chamber that sharper and owens have

Re: WP Insider: Springs Unlikely to Play Against Dallas
Unfortunately I think it's more serious than not having Springs. Which is REALLY serious. Minnesota's NONAME WR's burned us all day long. Perhaps because our front 4 couldn't get ANY pressure on Brad ALL DAY!!! Only time we got close was LB pressure. Wondering if David Patten or someone on the O could double as a corner, cause it's gonna get bad Sunday night if we can't stop Chester Taylor up the gut. Granted he had 31 carries for 88 yds which is not a great average but they exposed our DL inside and out. Especially by the 4th. Several 2nd and 2's. Can't win like that. Our whole team lost last Monday, not John Hall. The refs stunk, but whatya expect from same crew who did our Tampa game!? Sean Taylor still scares people, but he does need to make sure that he doesn't commit penalties. First personal was questionable and the second was immediate frustration. Was like NBA or something. And you guys laughed when I suggested signing Darrell Green... I'd bet the house that he'd have better luck than Rogers, Rumph, Jimoh, Wright on TO Sunday night!!!
griffin beats double teams, but not when they involve hutchinson and matt birk :/.
Thats a good point. Griffins whole job is to draw double teams, to open things up for our linebackers...hypothetically, he really shouldnt be making many plays at all to be honest; just eating up blockers so that our linebackers can come in and make plays. I'm starting to grow concerned with Andre Carter though, I didnt see him at all on monday making a play and he was very quiet in the preseason. Again, whoever said they hope htis is more of a statment for the Vikings than us, is what i'm hoping as well. |
