Name controversy

seeing how the redskins name has come up again, just wanted to get you guys input on some names for us if we do lose redskins as our name.

Re: Name controversy

I would vote for the Washington Grow Up You PC Crybabies.

I think we'll stick with the Redskins, though.

Re: Name controversy

If the redskins lost their names, perhaps they'd just shorten it to the skins. There isn't anything racist about that name, unless they think we're being racist towards people with skin.

Re: Name controversy

I gotta go with Gregg Easterbrook on this one and go to the classic:

Potomac Drainage Basis Indigenous Persons. "Persons" for short.

We'd be alienating our skeleton fan base...like Nicole Richie for example

Re: Name controversy

I am conflicted on the issue. I met native americans who found the term "redskins" comparable to the "N" word. They felt it demonized and dehumanized there race. I don't feel the redskins as an organization at all perpetuate this belief but I sympathize with these folks.

If we have to change our name I hope it becomes the foreskinz.

That's funny because I've met Native Americans who tell me a mountain is being made out of a molehill here. I guess really you can please some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the time. But you can't please all the people all the time.

This name thing has been going for so long now. It's not going to change so I wouldn't worry about it.

If they had to change the name, I'd vote for Warriors and go with the 70th anniversary uniforms.

Re: Name controversy

Lets change it to Washington Redskin Potatoes. That way, we can keep the fight song!

You can't "make" the team change the name. The lawsuit is about copyright protection. If it's upheld, the team cannot prevent other people from using the team name & logo for profit. That might eventually push Snyder into a name change. I'm hoping that Daniel Snyder's lawyers are as good as Sean Taylor's lawyers.

Hail To The Redskins is part of the appeal here. How old were you when you learned the words? I don't want to lose it and Hail To The ______ just doesn't work!!!

Sigh, having trouble posting (I've had 2 posts disappear). Anyways:

"I met native americans who found the term "redskins" comparable to the "N" word. They felt it demonized and dehumanized there race. I don't feel the redskins as an organization at all perpetuate this belief but I sympathize with these folks."

First off, I don't believe you.

Second, over 90% of Native Americans are unoffended by the name of our team (Source: 'Redskins' mascot acceptable, poll says - NFC East - MSNBC.com)

This new lawsuit is the result of some overeager attorneys tricking a bunch of young Native Americans into a losing lawsuit. It failed in the past because the statute of limitations had passed years ago on this issue. If it was so offensive there should've been more than two lawsuits between 197x and 2006.

This is a non-issue.
