Predict our first major player acquisition

vote and discuss

When the curtain finally raises on free agency, the Redskins' first acquisition (either through free agency or trade) will be...

WR Antwaan Randle El
WR David Givens
WR Isaac Bruce
LB Julian Peterson
LB Will Witherspoon
DE John Abraham
DE Darren Howard
DE Trevor Pryce
CB Ty Law
CB Nate Clements
S Adam Archuleta
DT Rocky Bernard
Other

Please note I'm just tossing some of the bigger names out there, so don't get in an uproar if you think a certain player isn't on our radar.

Complete guess but I'd say they go OLB and get Witherspoon. Position of need and a quality guy so he fits well. And looking at the other players and their positions I don't see as much urgency based on what's available. I think they'll take a shot at Bruce and give a call to Randle-El but wont over spend in either case. A deal for Abraham would probably take some time and everyone else seems like a lower priority type guy.

Does anyone know if Rocky Bernard is a tweener DT who can play both DT and DE?

How the hell did Bernard get 8.5 sacks last year at DT?
Does anyone know if Rocky Bernard is a tweener DT who can play both DT and DE?
Possibly from the sounds of this
Bernard has above average athletic ability, good quickness and strength. He has good agility, lateral movement and initial quickness of the ball. He has an explosive first step, he has good change of direction skills and he plays with decent leverage. He does a good job of anchor the point of attack when he plays low. He does a good of shooting the inside gap and he can be disruptive in the backfield. He does a nice job of keeping his feet down the line, he takes good angles while pursuing the ball and he has good overall speed for a defensive tackle. He has good power and strength to push the pocket on pass rush. He keeps his feet moving and he has good closing speed to the QB. However, Bernard motor does not run full speed all the time, he not consistent in his effort and he lacks a good work ethic and does not bust his ass to the ball all the time. He plays high when he is tired and lineman is able to get under his pads and knock him off the ball. He is undersize and will get engulf when he does not play with good technique. He does not have a variety of pass rush moves and if he can not beat you with his first step, he gets stalemated at the line of scrimmage. Overall, Bernard will make plays when he fresh. He is a good backup who can come off the bench and give your starters a rest with quality reps. He is a good overall pass rusher that will get your attention when he is fresh. His upside is he is young and he should only get better with more experience.
I wouldn't call him a big name. No one is going to give him big money.

Ryan Clark will be resigned before 12:01 friday. I think we'll see the skins signing archuleta, and soon after Sam Adams. We'll make the trade Ramsey for Abraham later in the week. Tod collins will be signed soon after. As for reciever I can't decide between Bruce, Bryant, Robinson or David Givens. Trevor Pryce is an interesting pick up but I think he'll go back to denver he did the same thing last year

Sam Adams? For what he would cost is he really much better than Joey S? I doubt we have any interest there.

he played under williams before and I don't think he will cost that much... especially if to players we look like a serious contender

I just don't see spending the money with what amounts to a depth pickup. Maybe if he languishes and costs us nothing but he'd have to be ready to sit. Joey S has done a quality job for us and is younger I think.

I am betting we pick up CB Andre Dyson - he's a former Titan (though may not go back all the way to when GW was there) and a solid corner. This year's Walt Harris but a better corner.

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

A Free Agent Warning

Once upon a time a promising young LB named Pierce was excited about getting a shot at starting in the upcoming season, but unfortunately his team signed an overpriced veteran free agent named Barrow instead. Barrow is still on our cap and never played a down in the regular season (ironically his cap number was a big reason we couldn't afford to resign Pierce the following year). Not only did it turn out that we already had someone who could fill that role but actually we had 2 people who eventually both excelled at that position.

Moral of the story is: Promote from within. Have faith in your coaches and avoid overpaying free agents!

We need to sign our own FA's (especially Clark) first, then if it isn't a WR or DE we have no buissiness talking to them - OK, maybe a veteran OLineman for depth to replace Brown. Everything else can be shored up in the draft! For once we don't have alot of needs.
