Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
John Clayton just said on ESPN radio at about 8:35 a.m. that the Jets would get Ramsey more than likely for a lousy 6th round pick. If we can't get at least a 3rd rounder for Ramsey I say we just keep him. Freakin 6th round pick, that's pretty much just throwing him away for no compensation!

Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
I agree. I mean we're gonna' need a backup and the cost would be comparably more.

Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
Get rid of him and at least get something for him, even if it's just a 6th rounder it's better than what we'll get for him after this season when he walks... nothing.

Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
I have to believe that Ramsey is worth more than a sixth round pick. If I'm Gibbs, keep him and let him walk next year then.

Yeah, but a 6th rounder is basically just that....nothing. Id rather keep him then get nothing for him. Whether or not you believe Ramsey should've been the starter, most of us agree that the kid has enough talent to play in the league somewhere. |

Regardless of what he does once he leaves the team, wouldn't we get a compensatory draft pick for a first rounder leaving? |
Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
We are in a no win situation. Teams know we have some cap issues and that we are looking to shop him. They can do that.

Yeah, but Ramsey's cap number has to be really really small since he's in the last year of his rookie contract. Couldn't we just keep him and trade him later when some team desperately needs qb help after injury or something? |
Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
C'mon guys, we really have no excuses for assuming info about player salaries. Just jump over to the cap sheets and you'll see Ramsey's base for 2006 is about $1.7M.

You get a compensatory pick when they leave for free agency. If you picked up a player through free agency then some times it can be a wash. |
Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
The Jets are probably going to take a QB in the draft anyway, so Ramsey would likely be a short-term solution. That's probably why they're only willing to give up a 6th rounder. Plus you have to consider there's quite a few free agent QB's that will be available that are more highly regarded than Ramsey.

Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
True, but most of the free agent qbs or qbs that are on the trading block have some injury issues: Culpepper- shredded knee; Pennington- shredded shoulder; Brees-- shoulder (did you see how his arm was bent!). Which free agent has more talent and potential than Patrick Ramsey?

Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
I say take the deal; it's better than being left empty handed. Plus, you never know what you'll find in the 6th round. (I'm thinking of a quarterback in New England who has won as many Super Bowl as the Redskins.)

Re: Clayton: A 6th round pick for Ramsey
i was hoping for at least a 5th. the 5th will still have some talent, in the 6th though it gets really foggy... at least its a very high 6 i guess.

We can take Culpepper off the list as the Vikings are picking up his bonus. I'll leave Brees off the list too because I really don't think he's going anywhere. QB's that have more value than Ramsey in my opinion Kitna - proven veteran. Simms - he's a RFA but I won't be surprised to see someone take a run at him. Garcia - he had health issues last year but if he can get healthy he's still a very capable QB. And then you have to consider guys who aren't currently available but are likely to at some point this offseason: Griese McCown Brooks |
