where is that 'portis is overrated' thread now?

Redskins team record 1516 yds. Team record 9 100+ yd games. Finally we can put that one to rest. Congrats Portis on a great season. Now down to Tampa!!! GO REDSKINS!!! :point:

You know, i'd love to say you're right Lux, but unfortunately, I can't. Portis only had 9 100 yard games this season.

Sorry. You are correct. Thought I'd heard it earlier. Maybe it's a premonition for next week!?

Lets see........it went like...........He's not "right " for this system! He's OVERPAID! He's not a a "power-runner" ! He's "lost a step" because he put on muscle in the offseason! He doesn't see the holes! Wah, wah, wah! Same stupid bastards that say replace Brunell, Gibbs has lost it! etc, etc.
If it is true that "ignorance is bliss", there are a lot of happy people on this site!

Portis, who rushed for 1,591 yards last season, has two years remaining on the contract he signed as a second-round draft pick in 2002. Displeased with the $300,000 he made last season, he has hinted he might be a holdout when training camp starts unless the Broncos rework his deal.

2. The Redskins will be a last-place team

Say it isn't so Joe. The NFC East clearly belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles. The next two slots will go to the Cowboys and Giants, both coming off of very good off-seasons, leaving Joe Gibbs' boys in the basement.

There's no way you can tell me the 'Skins have better talent now than one year ago. Right after Gibbs called linebacker Antonio Pierce and cornerback Fred Smoot "Core Redskins," owner Dan Snyder forgot where his checkbook was and let them walk to the Giants and Vikings respectively.

This could be a long season for Joe Gibbs' Redskins. (Jamie Squire / Getty Images)

Wide receiver Santana Moss isn't as good as Laveranues Coles, whom the Redskins traded to get Moss. And while you certainly can sell me on the fact that wide receiver Rod Gardner needed a change of venue, you can't convince me David Patten is a go-to option as his replacement. The Patriots didn't even try to bring Patten back. Have New England's Bill Belichick and Scott Pioli ever been wrong?

It's obvious that Gibbs doesn't endorse Patrick Ramsey at quarterback. The coach proved that by drafting Jason Campbell with the team's second first-round pick and by keeping 2004 disaster Mark Brunell around. As a result, Ramsey plays looking over his shoulder.

Clinton Portis isn't comfortable running Gibbs' style of offense. Last year, he complained that the offense was too predictable. Portis wants the offensive line to block more like it did in Denver. Running backs coach Ernest Byner says he talked with former Denver offensive line coach Alex Gibbs about making adjustments. I talked to team executive Vinny Cerrato, who says nothing has changed. Chaos still rules at Redskins Park.

In the secondary, rookie cornerback Carlos Rogers is banged up. Walt Harris has to play way too much. And Sean Taylor has a legal mess hanging over his head.

3. Julius Jones will lead the NFL in rushing

Bill Parcells is going back to his roots. The Tuna is going to rely on defense, a strong running game, a great tight end, intelligence and toughness in Dallas to win this season. And Jones is at the heart of it all. After a broken shoulder caused Jones to be inactive for the first half of the 2004 season, the former Norte Dame star dominated the rest of the way with 819 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Jones is strong, physical, and speedy rolled into one package. And Parcells is going to let him carry the mail at least 25 times every Sunday."

Dude, the guy who wrote that artice is a complete idiot. He didn't get one thing right, maybe the Kyle Orton thing, but the rest of it he was WAY off. Must be nice to be able to get everything in your job wrong and still be able to come to work the next day.

Re: where is that 'portis is overrated' thread now?

The best part of the article from the Fox Sports writer was when he metioned that the Redskins traded for Santana Moss and that "Santana Moss is not as good as Laverneus Coles" Couldn't be more wrong since Moss has double the stats of Coles this year and helped lead the Skins to the playoffs!

Re: where is that 'portis is overrated' thread now?

Last year, Portis WAS an overrated back being paid 50 million over 6 years. Why can't you call him overrated anymore? The answer is in one of the WP article today, where Portis says that the main reason for his improvement was - he became more coachable this year. He actually listened to Byner over the course of the offseason and the regular season. That's how he became a better fit for Gibbs' system.

Geez, none of you will ever be satisfied unless he rushes for 2,000 yards or what? It wasn't ALL him last year and the beauty of what you said, HurryKaine, is that he put responsibility on himself. That is a true testament to this TEAM, to all the coaches, and especially coach Gibbs.

Last year it was coaching, it was the players, AND it was Clinton. Just give him some freaking credit and focus on Tampa Bay. With all they have done there are still doubters, cynics, and naysayers. How about be happy that we are in the playoffs, be happy that we aren't 4-12, or worse, and how about be happy that we have a team who doesn't give up? We have a team that leaves everything on the field, they believe in one another, and they believe in the coaches to put them in the best situation. It has been a long time since I have had the feeling of "we are still in this" regardless of how much we are down or "we aren't going to blow this", like we have done so much in the past.

We should all be happy fans right now because we have ONE more game while 20 teams do not. 20 other teams are going to be watching the Redskins play the Bucaneers. I am satisfied with a win or a loss because it just feels good to be rooting for my team in the playoffs.

I dont know if I'll be satisfied with a loss, winning is addictive, but its been a great year and im happy to still have atleast one more week to cheer my team on. I have said since the begining of the year that my first goal was for us to having a winning record in our division...and that came true as well.
