TO Wants To Play
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2217740
So, TO has apologized to the world and wants to come back. I say screw him. All this is is a desperate attempt by Rosenhaus to try to put back the pieces of what TO has already destroyed. If I'm the Eagles, I let him sit out the year, then cut his tail. TO has blown any chances he ever had for a huge payday (*if* you don't consider his last one one). What a moron. |
Re: TO Wants To Play
This isn't going to happen, but...
If it does, the Eagles are the most gutless organization in football. They will have sold their dignity for the chance to win one or two extra games this season. |
Re: TO Wants To Play
I would hope that this whole situation humbles TO, even though it won't. He sets a bad example for all of sports, I'm glad the Eagles turned their backs on the "Me First" NFL player of today and are moving toward a more team oriented situation. Hopefully no one will pick him up (that wont happen) let him sulk in the corner and give him no attention. What happened to all of the great player who would go out and do their job? I think it really all changed when Michael Irvin came into the game, he set the mold for the whiny overpaid and overrated players of today. Fedex fans said it best Sunday night "F**k TO!"

Re: TO Wants To Play
Here's his entire apology and he did not leave anyone out this time
"As you know, I have been suspended and I told that I cannot play football for the rest of the season. I am a football player and this is what I do," said Owens, reading a prepared statement. "It really hurts me not to be part of the team anymore. I came here to help the Eagles get to the Super Bowl and win the big game. "When I got hurt last year, and everyone said my season was over, I fought hard to prove the world was wrong and do everything possible, including risk my career, to help the Eagles win the Super Bowl. "And I think the mentality that I have, my greatest strength can also be my greatest weakness. I'm a fighter -- I've always been and I'll always be. I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alienated a lot of my fans and my teammates. "To those fans who supported me through these tough times, I thank you for your support. To every single Philadelphia Eagles fan out there that cheered for me, I want you to know that I am sorry this has happened. To you, I apologize. "To my teammates, a lot of you have been a friend to me and I appreciate that. I can't tell you how much I wanted to fight along your side to take this team to victory. It was very painful for me not to be there with you against the Redskins last weekend, and it was more painful for me now that I won't be there with you Monday night. "Also, I would like to reiterate my respect for Donovan McNabb as a quarterback and as a teammate. I apologize to him for any comments that may have been negative. "To my head coach, Andy Reid, I owe you an apology. You and I were in a tough spot this year. I know you were just trying to coach this team and we did not see eye to eye sometimes. On the practice field and on game day, you knew you could count on me to give my very best. We had a lot of wins together, and I thank you for that. I respect you as a coach and as a person. "To Joe Banner (team president) and Mr. (Jeffrey) Lurie (Chairman/CEO), I understand that all along you were trying to do what you believed was in the best interest of the team, the Philadelphia Eagles. I apologize to the both of you. "As I said before, this is very painful for me to be in this position. I know in my heart that I can help the team win the Super Bowl and not only be a dominant player, but also be a team player. I can bring that. "In closing, I want everybody to know that football is my passion. I've always given it my all and I will continue to do so." Then Rosenhaus took the stand and told the media that he felt the media did not portray Owens in the proper light. Rosenhaus refused to answer many of the questions, including one that asked, "Would he be in this position today if it weren't for you?" Another question Rosenhaus did not answer: "You've been with Terrell for five months, what have you done for him other than getting him kicked off the team?" Rosenhaus said he hoped the Eagles would re-consider the suspension and the decision that Owens would not play the remainder of the season for the team. In fact, Rosenhaus said, he hoped Owens would practice on Wednesday and be with the team for Monday night's game against the Cowboys. "He wants to play football for the Philadelphia Eagles. He wants to play right away," said Rosenhaus. Bla, bla bla, bla bla bla boo hoo boo hoo but on Wensday when I come back we can talk about that new contract, you here. |
Re: TO Wants To Play
Too little too late. This shouldn't change the fact that he isn't a team player. Say goodbye to your big payday T.O. Say goodbye!
|
Re: TO Wants To Play
He's only sorry for one reason, the money he stands to lose from this.
Screw him, I really hope the Eagles don't give in and reinstate him. |
Re: TO Wants To Play
TO little, TO late. The Eagles have a golden oppurtunity to send a message to T.O., Cancer Rosenhaus, and any imitators that may be in the offing. It will do future player/team negotiations much good. I hope they don't blow it!

Re: TO Wants To Play
remember if to is suspended for 4 games, thats alittle over $800,000.00 in salary.he also has a clause in his contract that if he is suspended by the team for at least 1 game he has to return $1.275 million dollars in bonus.so today was "all about the money"

The Eagles have mentioned they want that back. Too cool |
Re: TO Wants To Play
The best thing that can happen for TO is that he seek the help he so desperately needs. I have been watching pro-football for a long, long time, and I have never witnessed anything like this guy. He's surely one of a kind. It's true that his BS apology is all about the money he realizes' he's going to miss, and the best thing that can happen is that the Eagles continue to make an example of him. The team just didn't realize how "CRAZY" this guy really is.
|
Re: TO Wants To Play
The Eagles are apparently not going after the bonus money. The party line is that they just want to be rid of Owens, but I suspect it's more that they don't want to look like cheapskates with potential future free agents.

Re: TO Wants To Play
Notice the timing. Now that he doesn't have to face our secondary Owens wants to play again. If they let him back and he has another "meltdown" before our next game, we'll know what the score is.

Visionary observation! |
Re: TO Wants To Play
good one JET. I agree with the others, if the Eagles let up now, they've basically said they're soft. You have to make an example out of him.

Re: TO Wants To Play
something they might think about doing is maintain the suspension for conduct detrimental to the team...for the 4 games allowed...and then consider reinstating him for the remainder of the season (since they will have to pay him anyway) if he hasnt gone crazy again between then and now (fat chance that will happen).
Of course that all depends what happens to the eagles in the next 4 games. If they are playing great football...and remain in the playoff race...they may or may not want to mess with a good thing. On the other hand if their chances of playoffs are already gone...then they may just be looking toward next year...and not want a player back whom they know wont be on the team next year. Only way i can actually see it happening is if they are still in the hunt....but are really hurting in the passing game...and or if they want to salvage some of T.O's value...so that they can possibly trade him rather than cutting him outright. Oh and can someone please tell me how to start a new thread...i havnt figured that out yet... |
Re: TO Wants To Play
I'd sent him high across the middle on every play and see how long he makes it.

Re: TO Wants To Play
:coach: How about an apology to the thousands of fantasy ballers who were counting on him for a championship! (I'm not one of them fortunately.) They were pulling for TO, until he cratered their roster with his juvenile stunts.
Tips for TO:

Let your oily mouthpiece agent do your negotiating for you. Lose the attitude. Antonio Gates got a new contract without the theatrics. Yes, he was suspended, but he got what he wanted and his team values him.
You ain't going to get a long tern contract without a lot of outs for your next empoyer. Go for a one year contract. Then you can do as you please.
If I publically bashed my employer and bad-mouthed the most critical employee, I would expect to be terminated. What makes you so special?
Get a bucket of water, stick your fist in it and pull it out. The hole that's left is how much you will be missed.
Stop listening to your friend Michael Irvin. I don't know if he influenced your "negotiation" tactics with the Eagles, but he opened the door to that Brett Favre question and you just stumbled right in.
|

I heard the amount of the signing bonus he would have to return was 1.725 M. w/ the suspension pay loss and the bonus he will be required to repay he is out ~2.5 in the short term. |

I had heard the opposite this morning from Clayton on ESPN radio. According to him, the Eagles were going to wait a week before filing their demand for the return of the bonus. Not doubting you - just was wondering where you heard it. Thanx. |
Re: TO Wants To Play
Hell lets take T.O., nothing to lose we sign him to a one year contract, we continue on with the rest of or team plans, he fuck up...he's out the Door....because I'm afraid he will goto Giants or Dallas and we will be in big trouble......real big

Re: TO Wants To Play
I'm glad that Dan Snyder's check book will be closed due to the last two four seasons of spending vicariously for the big named players. If it were not fot Gibbs, TO would be eating at Morton's Steakhouse and calling a press conference in March 2006. Thank God for Joe Gibbs.

On P.T.I today Kornheiser said T.O should come to the Skins! That way he could stick it the the Eagles twice a year. :vomit-smi

I read that article on my way back from D.C. Tony just wants to stir up the pot because he knows to throw that notion out there it will spark more interest from the Giants and Cowboys to pick him up. They can have him. |
Re: TO Wants To Play
TO is a disgrace to the NFL. and while there's no doubt as an athlete he's tremendously talented as well as productive on the football field, there's not IMO a place in sports for people who conduct themselves the way he does. While I've never been convinced of the fact that pro athletes should be looked upon as role models "per-say" his conduct is not only detremental to the team, but to the NFL as well. There's no way he should be allowed to play another down until he gets the help he needs. How many teams does he have to blow-up before it's realized that his behavior continues to overshadow his talents in a negative way?

Re: TO Wants To Play
T.O.'S one thing but i would like to see the nfl ban rosenhause, he's a me first agent.get rid of him.

Re: TO Wants To Play
Yeah, I saw his comments after TO's and I was DISGUSTED. His voice alone makes me want to kick him in the throat.

Re: TO Wants To Play
I thought T.O. sounded sincere - I think they should let him play.
Yeah, right - what a f*&king joke! The Eagles would look like bigger panzies than the cast of "Queer Eye" (not that there's anything wrong with that...). They have made a great decision to bench the f*cktard and if they go back on it at all, they will lose all respect. Stick to your guns Eagles! |
Re: TO Wants To Play
Does anyone know how T.O's suspension and the obvious fact that he will not return to the Eagles next year hurt the Eagles from a Salary Cap perspective? Just curious, beacuse I know he had a long term deal with them. I know the Skins have a lot of dead cap money with Coles being gone.

I have no clue what the exact numbers are but from I remember the deal was basically structured as a two year shot. There is something like a $7.5 million roster bonus due next season some time. Not sure if it is on the traditional june 1 or not. It was included as an escape clause for the Eagles should TO become an issue. I can't imagine why they would have thought he might be a problem. Based on that I would guess that the hit isn't super terrible ala the Skins releasing Coles. I would guess it is in the neighborhood of 4 or 5 mil. I will do some checking and seeh what I can find. Maybe Canuck has the details. |
Re: TO Wants To Play
Anyone notice at T.O.'s press conference when Rosenhaus was talking, it showed Owens laughing and smiling in the background at one point? Is that how sincere he really is?
|
Re: TO Wants To Play
I think I saw on ESPN somewhere that cutting Owens before June 1, 2005 only cost the eagles 1.5 M as a cap hit this year.

Yeah, that was when someone asked Rosenhaus what had he ever done for TO other than get him suspended by the Eagles |
Re: TO Wants To Play
cutting him loose cap wise is a relativley easy move, only about 1.5 million against
