Re: It's up!
Ooops. Mooby beat me to it. Feel free to merge/delete, mods!
|
Re: It's up!
Ron Warner, Wilds and McCune are my biggest surpsies.
|
Re: It's up!
McCune, Brown, and Wilds are my shockers.
McCune will make the P/ Squad, no doubt. |
Re: Roster Cuts
Wow. McCUne is no more. Practice squad? We'll see if someone else wants him. ALso, Ron Warner is a decent player. Guess Garnell didn't do enough to unseat ADE JIMOH!!!
Ade Jimoh Fan Club--your name and your namesake survive to fight another day!!! |
Re: It's up!
Ade survives!!!!
Glad to see it's Groom. He's got the leg--hope he really develops the accuracy, and we'll have a good weapon there. |
Re: Roster Cuts
and to think a couple of months ago many ppl were expecting mccune to start...as well as wilds maybe at least as a 3rd corner, how things change so fast. mark wilson got cut also, wonder if hell be practice squad
|
Re: Roster Cuts
Both Raymer and Friedman kept their jobs--Wilson, McCune to the practice squad--wonder who else is eligible?
Wow. Zak Keysey pulled it off. Undrafted and all--hope he gets in on some specials and kicks some ass. Groom--now he's got to prove he can do it for real!!! Glad they kept him though. 4 CBs, 5 Safeties--Ade is going to be on the field on D. Get ready, folks. |
Re: Roster Cuts
Nice to see that both Nemo and Rock made it. I think when Wilds and Shabazz ran into each other on the Ravens game-winning TD that sealed their fate.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
No shockers here.
McCune was a project from the start. Good to see he's headed to the PS. One of the things I'm really happy about is Groom is going to be our punter. |
Re: It's up!
i was hoping jimmy farris would make the team, he proved in the raven's game that he can catch the ball and he is also a pretty good spec. teams player. hopefully he will make the practice squad.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
McCune is really really stiff. It's like the muscles in his joints got beat down by the muscles in the rest of his body. Practice squad and future special teams monster if he isn't picked up.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
Wow! McCune, Wilds, Warner, and Wilson? I won't disagree with the coaching staff about any of these cuts, but I'm surprised by all of them.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
Anyone else notice that both Raymer and Friedman made the team? That is really surprising. Also, did anyone notice that Lemar Marshall is the only MLB on the squad? That is even more surprising. I wonder who is going to be the 2nd string MLB? I can't imagine the coaching staff making Marshall (an "undersized" guy) play 90% of all defensive snaps.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
holdman will be backup mlb
|
Re: Roster Cuts
zak keasey is a middle linebacker, he got playing time there during preseason and he excelled, we don't need another backup olb.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
mccune and wilds? hopefully both of them and warner hit the PS... i thought wilds played better last year than ade... pray our CBs stay healthy, we're not very deep there.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
holdman has played mlb a good bit, and marcus washington has run as an mlb in practices, and both of those guys are starters...
|
Re: Roster Cuts
None of these were suprises though for a while I thought Dyson might have a shot, but by him not playing special teams probably sealed his fate.
While many of us liked McCune, the only thing I got to see of him is his build. I didn't see much of him in the pre-season games, at least not enough to make a decesion as to whether he warranted a spot on the 53. |
Re: Roster Cuts
we have 5 DTs... i would have ditched killings(DT), evans (DE), and raymer(C) for those three, or at least one DT for another CB.
the rest looks like what you'd expect... wilson played in 0 games last year (i think) and had trouble in the ravens game, molinaro has played special teams and at DT last year. |
Re: Roster Cuts
RON WARNER! Damn, McCune- i liked him and Wilds i thought would make the team.
Why O why O why does wilds get cut and the ade stay? Friedman and Raymer both live? |
Re: Roster Cuts
Wonder if we'll pick up another backup O Tackle? We've only got one on the depth chart--Molinaro. I know old-man Ray can play out there if he has to, but that's pretty thin.
I guess that Holdman and the rest can backup at MLB. McCune is a work in progress, no doubt. Hope he develops--a good PSQ guy. Might we pickup a vet CB? I keep thinking that Ade isn't much for depth there, but I guess they like him.... |
Re: Roster Cuts
Yes, yes but what is done is done. I guess if GW says that wilds mccune and warner are not for our team then i trust him.
what now matters is http://www.redskins.com/team/ |
Re: Roster Cuts
Hopefully Farris will make the PS. Taylor Jacobs is on the roster again after doing nothing. Is he even going to be ready to play on Sept. 11?
|

Yeah one receiver i feel has to make the squad. Moss, Patten, Jacobs, Thrash and Brown. One is injured half the time and one showed he isn't the most reliable player on the field when it comes to catching. I have said that all of our positions can take an injury hit and still be fine, expecially on defense, but with a WR hit we are skrewed. |
Re: Roster Cuts
Thoughts:
I don't think Mark Wilson was progressing like Molinaro. Molinaro still has a shot at being good I think. Good choice there. I love the Andy Groom move. I will say that the Redskins' 2nd day draft picks over the last few years have been ugly. McCune, Mark Wilson, and Newberry all cut. White got hurt, and jury's still out on Molinaro. Broughton might be a bright spot though. But I think we've made up for it with undrafted free agents. I'm a big Zak Keasey fan. All that silly talk about cutting Jacobs or Antonio Brown never came to fruition. Thank God. And don't fret about our CBs. Greg Williams would not put Jimoh out there for coverage, I don't think. He'd roll a safety over into man coverage, someone like Prioleau or Ryan Clark. He's a fan of flexibility. The Ade is only there for Special Teams. And I think Garnell Wilds will be on speed dial for our first injury to a CB. |
Re: Roster Cuts
If an injury bug bites us in WR, CB, and LB position, we could be in trouble. Our starters look fine in those positions, but lack of depth concern me. But, I have faith in Gregg Williams. Also, I hope McCune does make it to practice squad. He may not work out as a LB, but trying him as a SS or a pass-rush end could be intriquing.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
how come no one one's talking about how we kept both Rock AND Nemo? thought that was a major battle/issue here.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
How does Gibbs cut the two tallest receivers on the team in one week with no other offensive player other than Cooley as a threat? This is ridiculous. We are crippling ourselves by holding on to Jacobs instead of Farris, and Raymer should have been cut last week. I'm not surprised by Dyson but don't try to relive the 80's with the smurfs especially with a QB who seems to underthrow them a lot of the times.
The cut list should have included 1.Ade Jimoh 2.Taylor Jacobs 3.Cory Raymer 4.Zak Keasey 5.Rock Cartwright 6.Tom Tupa |
Re: Roster Cuts
Yeah. I am shocked that Wilds was cut and Jimoh made the roster. I've avoided the Ade-busting until now, but the truth is that he worries me every time he lines up. I've never seen a CB get burned so many times and NOT get cut. Joe must be seriously desperate for Special Teamers.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
so whats our PS now?
wilds, mccune, farris, warner, ??, ?? , ??, ?? I think wilson and barnes might also make it along with of the other cut CBs, that'd leave one spot with no one worthwhile filling it... It might be good white got hurt, otherwise there'd be a choice between a guy that'll help you this year (koz) or a guy thats holding a roter spot hostage in hopes he'll be better next year. I still think our CB depth takess a huge nose dive after #3, here's hoping its not a problem. |

LB and safety are the deepest positions on our team. KC was the spot starter ahead of AP and lemar before last year. we still have him and holdman who's a capable starter, o i don't think that's a problem... CB on the other hand... |

The cut list should have included 1.Ade Jimoh 2.Taylor Jacobs 3.Cory Raymer 4.Zak Keasey 5.Rock Cartwright 6.Tom Tupa
did you miss the preseason? rock had more yards, more ypc, more receiving yards than broughton, and he was subbing in and out of the 1st and 2nd string offense while doing it. Tupa is on IR, there's ABSOLUTELY no reason to dump him, he doesn't count against us in any way. GW likes keasey and he's made more plays and less penalties than mccune. I wouldn't mind seeing raymer go after last year though, and i don't know how ade stays on the team, but he's figured out how to stay on the roster this long, so i'm just going to learn to live with it. I understand the taylor gripes, but he's talented and had some bad luck. WRs cant play through ruptured kidneys and broken toes, and i would like to see him healthy for at least a few games before writing him off. WR is one of the positions were it can take 3 years to see what you've got (jimmy smith, etc) and i'd hate to have spent a 2nd round pick to give someone else a free #2 receiver. |
Re: Roster Cuts
Just gettin in guys....wow the cuts are in! Seems like it was just yesterday we were all chomping at the bit waiting for training camp to even start! Look at us now...
Anyway, I was definitely suprised to see Ron Warner go. Pretty much everything else was no big deal. I felt like Khary Campbell beat out B.Barnes - glad he made it as well as Nemo/Rock. I'm hopeful Jacobs will come around and play through some of these nicks and show us what he can do. Glad he made the squad though. Oh, I was suprised to see Raymer and Friedman make it, I thought for sure Raymer was out of here. Looks like the Clemons brothers both made it - Chris and Nick! |
Re: Roster Cuts
Bottom line, Taylor Jacobs is way too talented to cut. He has his best football ahead of him. Talk of cutting him is foolishness.
I can't say I mind any of the moves. One guy I'm excited about who we haven't talked much about here on the Warpath lately is Chris Clemons. GW seemed to realize what a weapon he is in situational pass rushing last year. He reminds me of when we used to bring in ND Kalu on 3rd down, he'd always hurry the QB. I'm glad Clemons is still a Redskin. Definitely nice to see Rock and Nemo still with us. Rock looked pretty tough to stop on a lot of those screens. Question though, would one of them have been cut if Manny White hadn't gotten hurt? Or would they have cut White or Sellers? |

I can't imagine not having a back-up plan for the tackle postion. Obviously they wanted more depth and rotation out of the interior linemen this year. If you think about Samuels stayed healthy all year. So I guess they're betting that Samuels will continue to be healthy and Jansen, who never, ever misses a game (with the exception of last year) will be healthy this year too. I think before he got hurt last year he hadn't missed a game since playing at Michigan! |
Ditto.
Honestly McCune didn't really show much. I mean the kid Keasey flat out out-husteled him! What a story that will be, a non-draft pick from Princeton makes the squad! |
