Patriots cut Morton

New England Patriots: The team released kick returner Chad Morton, who was on the physically unable to perform list, and six other players.

Morton was limited to six games last season by ligament damage in his right knee and did not re-sign with the Washington Redskins, where he spent two seasons. In 2003, he had career highs of 48 carries for 216 yards and also returned 44 kickoffs for an average of 23.4 yards and one touchdown in Washington.

Also cut were wide receiver Jason Anderson, placekicker Robbie Gould, offensive guard Ryan Krug, defensive lineman Ifo Pili, cornerback Hank Poteat and defensive lineman Santonio Thomas.

Not to be a dick but I don't think this is applies to the skins. Chad Morton has no place on our team as of now.

Re: Patriots cut Morton

Because it hasn't been long since he was cut by the Redskins, and I'll admit that I am curious about how well some of our former Redskins are doing. Unfortunately for Chad Morton, I don't see him around the league too much longer. I think the injuries are getting the best of him now.

Well so much for this I guess

"3. I think whoever signs Chad Morton is going to get a player who helps that team win two extra games this year. Two! Stop arguing over a few signing-bonus bucks. Morton will be one of the five most electric return men in the game."-Peter King

Matty, hope you don't mind but I took off the Patriots logo from your post. I felt kind of weird seeing that logo on our homepage.

Re: Patriots cut Morton

I wanted him to do well, i don't like this.......well i would like him to do better than other former redskins.

Not that i don't like pierce or smoot but i would really like it if they had worse years than last year so people would see that part of their success was just being on our D

Good call King. As usual on the money! Ha!

Peter King is like the god of all sports writers, next time he has a chat or something where you can talk to him, I think somebody should shove it in his face. Maybe an email or something.

thanks for that post TAFKAS, i was just sitting here trying to remember who said morton was going to help a team win two games.

once again peter king shows his ignorance.:smashfrea

Re: Patriots cut Morton

Hahahaha......Peter King!

Ya know though...thinking about now, the Redskins have always had doubters in the media. I seemed to remember Jimmie "The Greek" not being too high on the Redskins. This, of course, was back in the 80's when the Skins we're a threat, year in and year out.

I think it was Paintrain who had initially posted this quote in a thread a while back, so props to him for originally bringing it to our attention

I hope Morton can get himself healthy and playing. Though he may not have had the success he (and we) wanted here, I think he gave his all.

We should create an archive section for all the top stupid quotes for the year and revisit them as the year progresses.

I would love to see how many writers do 180's without even mentioning that they blew it earlier.

Sorry grandpa, my post was really stressing how little I thought of Chad Morton not on the semantics that pen my favorite website. You should probably preface all your posts with I am a giant penis that reads the fine print on my viagra box. ;)

I actually don't hate King. Unlike Dr. Z and Len Pastabelly, he doesn't "have it out for us." He adores Gibbs and never says anything harsh about him. Regardless of how (in)accurate Peter King is in his prognostications, he's pretty objective and doesn't seem to have a gripe with any team in particular.

When someone says not to be a dick... it's probably a good indication that some dick-like comment is to follow. ;)

Kinda like when Parcells said no disrespect, then dropped his "jap plays" bomb.

Thanks Daseal for pointing out the obvious. Considering how dopes like King loved Morton after we cut him, I thought it might be relevant to point out that he was cut by New England.

Thanks for the shout out TAFKAS... I'd like to thank all the tubby ignorant sportswriters for making this acknowledgement possible and I look forward to many more times that we can point out their absurd comments regarding the Redskins and their personnel moves..

Hey just wanted to apologize to Daseal and Mattyk72 or anybody who thought I was undermining the forum. I really just felt Morton was through a while ago, and his release was impending. Sorry if I pissed anyone off. ;)

Re: Patriots cut Morton

Morton was just another bad signing for us a few years back. I can't remember what we gave up for him but I am sure that we overpaid.

illdefined 08-31-2005 12:01 PM

Re: Patriots cut Morton

yeah, when Der Snyder learned to stop overpaying old stars, he went on to try and overpay a whole young TEAM (the Jets). after that, he brought back Gibbs and learned to sit back, so he definitely keeps learning. it's never been so clear how a franchise progresses at the exact same rate as its owner.
