Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Gotta beef up the OL/DL for sure.
OL: - Draft or sign a left tackle - Move Coleman to LG - Tyler Biadasz at C - Draft a RG (in case Cosmi isn't ready and we need depth anyways) - Draft or sign a right tackle DL: - We need a true DE1 that can set the edge and rush the passer - Start Newton - Trade Allen or Payne - Draft another DT and keep some of the depth guys |

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Agree on the DLine needs. IMO it is the biggest need on defense. We need DE's that can set an edge in the running game while still rushing the passer. And DT's that can occupy blockers. Allen is as good as gone as he is expensive and not worth the $$$ he is due. Unfortunately Payne is still going to be here for 1 more season as his contract makes it hard to move on from. They both need to be replaces. The whole Dline does!

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
OL
Edge DL Secondary TE WR-2 RB K LB All of these areas need help, and yet this team went to the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game. Yeah, JD-5 should win MVP. AP will put enough pieces in place to make us Superbowl winning contenders. We almost are now. He can draft BPA outside of QB and we have enough cap space to go get a couple real difference makers and resign who we need to. If AP plays his cards right we will actually start a season with Superbowl aspirations for the first time in over 30 years. |

Resign Chinn, Noah I., D. Brown, Way and maybe Wagner
Find some players in FA - target Oline and #2 WR (limited options tho). Go BPA in the draft |

Only if he wants to. He may want to go somewhere; where could be a short term starter. |
Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
I think my view is different than many. Our defense is really bad. We were the worst defense of all playoff teams and gave up kike 500 yards in every playoff game after playing a whole season in the scheme. I am not a fan on depending on fantom turnovers on defense as a consistent way to win defensively. Perhaps our scheme is an issue. To me almost every position on defense needs an upgrade, although I like Luvu, and maybe Sanrisil, but he should be in the slot. Giving up 10 yard chunks any play a decent team wants and hoping we can consistently pull off comeback miracles is not sustainable. Hell, in a normal season, winning 2-3 games that way is the sign if an elite qb, I think we had 6 of em. Long term you gotta look at the law of averages. VI hate to say it, but the Eagles with a top defense is guaranteed to be in every game because of it. I dont see a one more year build, it is a couple as our squad is quite average ither than McLauren and Daniels. What happens if Daniels gets injured? Sheesh. We need a rock solid defense and a solid oline. That describes the team that will force us to be wild card contenders for the next 3+ years, unless we can somehow duplicate their squad. Remember all the posts in August about this being a 3 year build. A miraculous season does not alter our roster needs. Remember 5 straight years of 1st/2nd round draft flops that were supposed to be our pro bowler core. They dont exist. I mean Hail and all for this year for sure, but to build a contender, it usually takes years vs a fluke SB win (which has happened a few times, usually with defense)

If we re-sign D. Brown, I think you could essentially run the same offense back, outside of adding a new LG and RT, or moving Coleman to LG and getting 2 new OT's (likely sign one and draft one). That leaves a lot of draft picks and FA money to throw at the defense. No team will have a perfect 22. We can definitely have a way more complete team after just this offseason imo. |

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
To fully rebuild, it will take 2 more years. You can’t fill our needs this offseason but we can move closer. 2026 we get those final pieces.
We might actually slip to 10-7,11-6 due to people having tape on Jayden now and our opponents will be tougher. At least on paper. |

We need speed at WR and RB

Yes though I agree. On Offense it is all about the line. 5 makes all the weapons better than they are. |

People watched tape for 20 years on Brady and it didn’t matter. You cant stop Allen, or Mahomes. Tape will show you a player’s weakness but if they don’t have any good luck. He is that good. We win at least 7 at home next year. Book it. |

He still nearly broke the single season rushing record. It's about having everything; coaching, scheme fit, culture, but above all the best athletes in every key position. We don't have all the pieces yet, but we're not a million miles away. P1 - OL, DL (particularly edge), CB. P2 - RB and WR (big play ability), and S (a Taylor/Reed guy that can cover the field and create turnovers). P3 - LB, K and possibly P (Way is an FA, isn't cheap and can't play forever anyway). And if we don't re-sign Mariota, a #2 QB. |
Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
I wouldn't be surprised if we try to bring in DeMarcus Lawrence. Not sure how much he has left in the tank tho.

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Actually, it will be interesting what the expectations for 25 will be ?
Super Bowl? NFC Championship? Winning the division? I wouldn’t be surprised with at least a championship appearance again but I also wouldn’t be shocked if we slip slightly to 10-7/11-6 and 6th or 7th seed? Jayden will keep us competitive but how does the retooled team respond. |

Eagles will probably be tough next year too. It's going to be a LONG LONG wait for FA to start. I think you look forward to it even more when you're on the cusp of being a regular super bowl contender. |
Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Trent Scott filled in pretty dang good at OG. I'm curious to see if he sticks on the roster next season as a swing G rather than an OT.

And Jayden is going to get better, and AP will make sure the team around him does too. The added talent, growth of 5, and three less fumbles and I give us a punchers chance. |

I still think Sinnott is going to be good. But Ertz outperformed probably all of our expectations (including Peters). And TE is a tough position for a rookie. Hopefully Sinnott is a valid starting option in 2025. Each draft you want at least 3 long-term starters. We have 2 for sure with Jayden and Sainristil. I think Coleman can be a starter but hopefully at LG and Sinnott. But 2 of those 4 are just projections, so I won't torch you. And Peters brought in the right FA's. He pretty much hit on all of them. It's hard to compare though, because draft picks are long term choices, while FA signings were a lot of 1 or 2 year patchwork jobs to help build the culture. Overall, Peters gets an Easy A from me. |
Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Newton was solid but I also think it is reasonable to want more from a 2nd rounder. Ideally Newton and Sinnott take big steps forward next season to really solidify the draft class

Allen and Payne are both better names than players. I'd try to trade both. Both isn't likely, but if we can trade one of them even for a 4th rounder, I'm taking it. I'd much rather have Newton and Payne or Allen and a 4th rounder than keep the latter 2 at high cap hits. |
I might get torched for this but I felt Peters did better in FA than draft (which is still way early to judge) JD was obvious I feel his real hit was Mikey but we need more of those type of picks.
AP's draft got high grades at the time, and the season showed those grades were well earned. Here is the rookie draft. (few played like rookies though):
1-{2): QB Jayden Daniels, LSU 2 (36): DI Jer’Zhan Newton, Illinois 2 (50): CB Mike Sainristil, Michigan 2 (53): TE Ben Sinnott, Kansas State 3 (67): OT Brandon Coleman, TCU 3 (100): WR Luke McCaffrey, Rice 5 (139): LB Jordan Magee, Temple 5 (161): S Dominique Hampton, Washington 7 (222): EDGE Javontae Jean-Baptiste, Notre Dame The first 3 picks look to grow into studs. Sinnott and Magee were key ST's with high upside Sinnott was tucked clearly behind Ertz, who played above expectations and was a clear safety valve for Daniels - I think Sinnott takes that role next year. Hampton and Jean-Baptiste were good role players on the team for late round picks. The only pick I think will be an obvious whiff is McCaffrey and even he showed value on returns. Coleman held his own at LT, that was huge. He was a 3rd round selection who easily could have been a bust (think Evan Neal drafted by the NYG a few years ago) long termhe may move to OG if we get an elite LT, but he is a longterm OL fixture in the 3rd round. I don't get what more you want from AP's draft? Sent from my SM-S711U using Tapatalk |

Payne's contract makes it very highly likely he will be here one more year. |

Got to give a draft class 2-3 years to really know how it grades out.

Newton was kind of a disappointment. Really didn't see much of a pass rush from him and that was supposed to be his strength. Sinnott I think will get his shot next year. 50/50 on whether or not they should bring back Ertz. I always feel like w/ older guys you have to get them off your team a year early rather a year too late. Can he stay healthy again? Idk. He proved he still has it though. Tough call on that one. |

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
as for RB . . . i really like the RB out of Tennessee, Dylan Sampson. Extremely explosive and fast with good size, power and vision. Not a polished blocker in the passing game, but has good hands. He may be the next Alvin Kamara as he is smooth, fast and agile!

Well Ill say it. AP knows as much about football as my grandmother does. He sucks. FA and the draft were both jokes last year that got us nowhere fast and the Daniels pick is just a dingleberry on the top of a mountain of shit that this franchise has become since Snyder and Rivera left. |
