Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Feel free to start one for each game, but if not, let's discuss the over-all pre-season games here. Only 10 more days until the official new era of [insert your favorite future name of choice here] football! Year 0 was hosing the stench off. Full-time job for us. This is year 1, where the actual football games are the only thing that matters.
I doubt Jayden plays much. Or really any assumed locked-in (veteran - non qb) starters do. Who else are you most excited to see? Coleman is probably going to be a common choice, for very valid reasons. I think Sainristil and Newton will be ballers, so I actually don't need to see anything from them, besides health. I'd go with Forbes playing more physical/aggressive and how good Magee can be. Magee has under-the-radar gem written all over him. |
Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Hopefully we can take a few kickoffs back this year. Nice to get a look at the new rule tonight.

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Magee and Hampton. Both 5th round guys with a lot of upside but raw.
If the defensive coaching is as good as we’re all hoping, they’ll get some use out of those guys. |

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
I would very much like to see JD play some. Other than that, I'd like to see some players who are battling for a roster spot flash - especially on ST.

Caleb Williams didn't play at all in game 1. But they also get screwed with 1 extra pre-season game. So that could be irrelevant. I'm totally fine myself with Daniels not playing any snaps in pre-season. He's our best QB. |

He has to get some reps before the regular season starts. I'd probably go around a quarter in the first 2 games and then decide on the 3rd preseason game. Kingsbury just needs to tell him to not run in the preseason.

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Newton - Is he the replacement for Allen/Payne he's projected to be. I'd love to keep all 3, but we know next contract round that's likely not happening.
Forbes - Is year 1 a distant memory? I really want this kid to be the diamond he could be. DE - Next years draft likely targets at least 1 killer DE, but can 2 of these guys perform well enough to cement a solid pass rush. Not expecting fireworks, but we have to be able to get after the QB. Coleman - it would be so good to see the kid exceed expectations and win the starting job before the end of the year. McCaffrey - He's likely the #1 slot, and if Dotson can step back up, we could have a trio worthy of the 3 Amigo's tag. Better still, if Sinnott is that guy, Fun Bunch 2.0. |

Not a patch on Clark, Monk and Sanders. ;) |
Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Just saw Daniels will play this week against the jets. I'm bummed because that means he probably won't play against New England which is the game I'm going to...

100% JD needs to play |
Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
I forgot to add I'd like to see us come out of the pre-season games with a nailed on #1 kicker we can have faith in. Fed up with kicker being talked so much about on here. 😁

Is the game really at 12 noon Saturday? Who picked that time?

I’d like to see Newton hit Diva Rodgers in the mouth. Ahh well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have not read any reports of Colemen's play in the scrimmage, can someone help me out? Colemen and Jayden are the obvious 2 I will be watching but really preseaon is about evaluating the entire roster.

I think both Coleman and Wylie were held out. |

And Cosmi from 11 on 11s, hence the OL was a mess |
Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Forgot that I have NFL Network on Fubo now. Get to watch the game tomorrow morning.

No game thread?

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Nice first drive.

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Already better than any opening drive last year. My goodness was the Rivera era a disaster. That drive felt normal.

Apparently JD checked out of a screen for the pass to Dyami....

Hard not for me to get all negative Nancy about Dotson and I am trying to rationalize it is only preseason but if he is going to take the next level and validate his draft position this was not a great first game.

I am finally getting around to watching the rest of the game. On the play that looked like he was held I backed it up and he simply slipped and once again failed to make a play. On the screen to TM he didn't block well but the pass was a bit upfield which lead TM into the defender. The truth is of JD's 3 passes 2 of them were off target. The deep ball was perfect and I'm still totally in the tank for Jayden Daniels but he was off on those short passes and something to keep an eye on. |

I actually thought Olamide Zaccheaus and Kazmeir Allen looked pretty good. It'll be interesting to see how the receivers shake out this year.

Does Dotson offer any trade value at this point?
Does Dotson offer any trade value at this point?
Yes, although we likely will not receive a 1st or even 2nd round pick for him. But it's way too early for us to give up on him. |
Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Does Dotson offer any trade value at this point?
Not much at this point. He needs to prove his worth this year. The league and Commanders couldn't care less if he was a 1st rounder.

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Football was fun again. That's how I would summarize our 1st game. Wasn't watching out of habit and hoping magically it went well. It was just an enjoyable experience. J.D. is gonna be nice.

He just doesn't look like a rookie. He looks poised and on time. He's gonna be a real one. |
Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
He also ran right into defenders. That's the biggest worry in his game and the hardest to correct.

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Since we never did start a game thread about the Miami game, I'd like to provide a few of my observations from that competition. Feel free to jump in and disabuse me of my misconceptions.
1. Jeff Driskel - I was really impressed by his play vs. the Jets and the Dolphins. I'm hoping we keep 3 Qb's and he's one of them. 2. I thought the OL play in the 1st half was pretty darn good. We may have just enough decent starters and backups to get by this season. 3. Tyler Owens - This UDFA is going to be a BEAST! Running and hitting is his game. I think he's made the team already and will be moving up the depth chart. 4. Speaking of UDFAs, I think we have hit on several. Chigozie Anusium is a smooth athlete with good size who played well against Miami. He is a keeper, IMO. 5. The other UDFA we need to keep is Michael Wiley. He has earned the 3rd RB spot IMO. 6. The CB situation scares me. We are too weak at this position and we need to find better players or we can expect to be beaten deep a lot again this season. 7 (and last). The Kicker position is a CODE RED! Send in the reserve platoon of Kicker candidates ASAP. |
Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Good observations in my opinion.
Driskel has been pretty good. It's so hard to evaluate though when he's going against dudes who probably won't be in the NFL in a couple weeks. DQ said the QB room is "special". Whatever decisions they make so it remains that way, are ok with me. The kicker position IS a Code Red. I feel like it's been several years since we had a kicker for whom I wasn't holding my breath every time he lined up for a FG. We're definitely losing a couple close games this year due to missed kicks. I tend to agree with your assessment of the CB situation. Our apparent starters are getting burned by backups. It could get ugly when it's 1s vs 1s. The only thing that makes me think it's not as bad as it has seemed is we haven't really played our starting D-line much. I'm hoping that makes a difference. It doesn't look good, though. |
