this line in the article made me chuckle

Eric Bieniemy, who has one year left on his contract, served as the Commanders' offensive coordinator this past season.

I love for them to keep EB and he just roams around the facility doing nothing with his giant bowling ball head

I like this move. 50/50 on Kingsbury but we'll see.

Don't know anything about this guy but the fact that Quinn brought him in is good enough for me. I'm excited to see what our defense looks like! I'm hoping that Quinn/Whitt's defense will match Gregg Williams' level when he was our DC - that time was probably the last time we had a great defense since.

Like the hire. Really hope Al Harris is next to come on this staff. He said he would follow Quinn, so we'll see.

I'd be happy with Al Harris as our secondary coach.

This hire makes total sense. He has been successful and he knows Quinn's system. This decision probably didn't take much thought from Quinn. Awesome for Whitt to get his chance.

Rivera won't be fielding the defensive roster and the coaching is a clear upgrade, defense should be at least decent next year. Which is a big upgrade from fresh dog-shit on your shoe like 2023.

Seems like a solid hire. I'd imagine DQ will be heavily involved with the defensive side.

I'm mildly surprised to hear Whitt is gonna be playcaller too. Goes to show the trust DQ has in his guys. Hope this is the last time we need new coordinators for a while.

Pretty thin for sure, sadly, that might be complimentary lol. I trust Peters/Quinn/Whitt to fix the defensive schemes and talent though.

I'm more confident about the defense being improved than the offense (and I like the Kliff hire).

If we have a good FA/draft, it's the NFL, we could be competitive next season. If we have a great FA/draft, the NFCE is very weird, maybe we can shock the world.

The NFC East is very weird in fact all four teams will have brand new defensive coordinators. Is your definitely is wide open regardless of past performance.

One of my favorite things about Snyder being gone: CRed is back!!

And he uses maybe one of the most underrated Redskins of all times: Chris Samuels. C.S. was a fucking hog.

Apparently they're talking to Jason Simmons in LV, and Raiders gave permission. Whitt worked with him in GB.

Crazy how fucked up this franchise has been and we still have nothing but great football friends from across the pond. Europeans must be the greatest sports fans in the world or somehow this sad-sack franchise got the cream of the crop.

Let me know when Forbes has gained 25 pounds of muscle and is willing to hit somebody. Then he might be able to become a player of note.

Forbes obviously didn't come along as one would have hoped, but for now I'm chalking it up to coaching. I don't remember him shying away from contact though.

He had 1 in six starts last year, so I'd say that's a safe bet if he plays more.

I don't think interceptions necessarily work in that order. I think lots of guys have 1 pick, don't think there are many with 3 picks each year.

Only 24 guys had 4+.

Re: Welcome Joe Whitt Jr. (DC)

Yeah, I wasn't insinuating there was a set ratio of interceptions to games played, I'm just saying if he gets more playing time my bet is he will probably have more INTs...maybe 2 more...? Maybe?

Anyway there were 43 players with at least 3 INTs last year.

Here's to Forbes being No. 44, or replacing guys on the current list.

I liked the Forbes pick at the time, so it could just be my pride, but I think he can definitely be successful in 2024.

Quinn/Whitt>>>>>> 2023 staff

Quinn has coached good defenses and Whitt has coached good secondaries. And it's a passing league now. We might fuck around and have at least a league average D in 2024.

Note - According to Wiki, our 2023 secondary coach was Cristian Garcia. No actual wikipedia page. But, don't want to pin anything on him either, he wasn't in charge.

Chief X_Phackter 02-08-2024 12:24 AM

Re: Welcome Joe Whitt Jr. (DC)

I hope he gets a chance and balls out. The more likely scenario is he'll be a backup because we went out and got some dudes - either in the draft or free agency (or both).

But I agree 100% that Quinn/Whitt>>>>>> 2023 staff.

Christian Garcia was probably RR's nephew.

When I think about his potential, I am constantly reminded of Darrel green saying that he def thought it was a coaching issue.

Re: Welcome Joe Whitt Jr. (DC)

I think every returning player on the roster come camp will be a potentially different story this year. I have no doubt this new staff will be a step up, whether it's capability, chemistry, leadership or any combination thereof. That gives everyone a better chance to excel than before. There are guys that we already know should show up (Scary, Allen, Payne, Cosmi etc.) and players I/we'd like to see step up like Forbes, Martin, St-Juste, Davis, Hudson, Dotson, Brown. We should get a clearer picture who the staff see as sticking once FA rolls around, but hopefully we get a bit aggressive on edge, LB and OL in FA.

Agree with this except St-Juste better not be on the roster this year. He was by far the worst player on the team and it wasn’t effort it was straight garbage. CB is an absolute must either in the first 4 rounds or through FA.

Facts.

There's going to be a new vibe, new energy going into the 2024 season. The staff that is being assembled will see to that, and we have the leaders on the team to make that resonate in the locker room. It's pretty exciting for a change. I don't even care what they end up doing at #2, because I just know we have better decision makers at the helm. So whatever they do, from my perspective (as jamf suggested) it's the right decision.

a stays under the radar but a horrible pick by RR was Jamin Davis

Re: Welcome Joe Whitt Jr. (DC)

I think Davis and St-Juste may have potential to turn it around with the right staff. St-Juste played well year 1, and Davis was arguably stunted by being out of position in year 1 and having 0 support around him in year 2 (and arguably year 1). But, yeah, if the staff can't see the possibility of a turnaround for them then trade/cut them.

DQ and Whitt made a mid-round Cowpuke DB into an pick 6 machine. We have talent in this team, but we haven't had the appropriate coaching to get the best out of them.

After coming a 4-13 season where the defense was horrible, no player should be "safe but we also need to realize that Del Rio was a horrible coach.

I am not the biggest fan of Davis or St Juste so I won't shed a tear. Their juvenility lead to the death of a person and careers have been lost for a lot less. Add to that neither is a commodity you can't replace so ....
