Chaos at the Capitol: New thread edition
I think the events of today deserve their own thread, even though it's mostly over.
Thought this was a nice juxtaposition from Twitter. Day 1: Day 1448: |

The woman that got shot and killed works at the capital.
Hope Trump and Proud Boys are happy. A woman actually at work on a Wednesday gets killed because of a bunch of Fuckboys. |

Don't know how seriously they were enforcing at 6 pm, but this video I just watched sure looks like they're enforcing it now. Shocking it only took literally all day for LE to act like these assholes deserve hands laid on them.
I think invoking 25th could b in order
Could be, but I think Pence is too spineless to rock the boat right now. The odds might grow higher if Trump continues trying to incite an insurrection though. |

I'm almost at a loss for words about everything that has happened in the past 24-48 hours. Like this is worst case scenario × 2. |

Interesting. 4 people died, the woman was shot by Capitol police, the 3 others had "medical emergencies." 2 pipe bombs recovered, one at the DNC, one at the RNC. Police also found a cooler in a vehicle on Capitol grounds that had a long gun and a molotov in it. |

I took news from someone I trust. And she is still trustworthy, I think she just shared what she heard immediately. Not her fault. My fault for not waiting more to talk about it and research it, or just wait. Sorry to everyone. Looks like she didn't work there. |

I know you weren't. I was genuinely answering your question and apologizing for sharing something that ended up being false. Shitty conversation to have because someone did die. Just not how I originally understood it. G1, we probably disagree on 90% of things. But this is not one of them. That young woman died for no reason. And it's fucked up. |

Re: Chaos at the Capitol: New thread edition
4 people dead, and over what? Lies.
Trump and all of the republicans that stood by and wouldn't acknowledge the election results, or kept perpetuating this lie of a stolen election should be held accountable. Pathetic displays from the likes of Lindsay Graham last night too, sorry but you were part of the problem dude. You blow the dog whistle long enough and guess what, the dog is going to show up looking to bite someone. |
I was watching it live it was well past 6 pm between 6:15 and 6:30. The police were standing in a line and people we coming up and recording the police and walking around, one guy was drinking a beer. Ironically the police did back up the media. I quit watching soon after that so not sure if they started enforcing it later. It kind of looked like a party on the mall with a police barricade. |

Re: Chaos at the Capitol: New thread edition
I wonder if this tension between liberal nanny state and laissez faire capitalism is how the country felt leading up to the civil war. The level of difference between the two sides now, and the growing width of the violent fringe on both sides of our society seem destined to implode. Ironically the two sides are amazingly similar to the 1860s. Not specifically speaking about racism, but the rural or land owning class versus the industrial/urban class.
Not shockingly I think opposite of G1 in that I believe a mixed congress with biden as president could have done so much good toward bridging the divide, but a stacked liberal federal government will exacerbate the differences as the extreme left push an out of balance agenda through. ^^ video of the moment protestors entered the capitol through a side door. really good interesting video, about 1.5 mins, you can feel the tension and the moment its breached I highly encourage everyone to watch it Just one officer running down the stairs .. how he restrained himself to not hit that dude with his baton I have no idea ^^ this guy basically walked back that officer |
Re: Chaos at the Capitol: New thread edition
Funny you didn't feel that way with republicans in charge?
Yes i did. My best government is split house and senate with a republican president
I can actually rank all of them because of the different powers each house has Pres rep sen rep. house dem is my favorite and if the house had focused on passing legislation not blocking DT so many good bills could have passed Next is pres rep house rep sen dem. This is a very good setup for fiscal issues not as good for social liberty Next is pres dem house rep senate dem Then pres dem house dem senate rep Next is any combination where president is one party and house/senate are the other party Finally the worst combination is when one party controls all 3 sections because you disenfranchise half the population and it skews the policies too far one way. Thats what we had the past 4 years and McConnell and republicans abused it by adopting the "because we can" approach. Republicans rammed their agenda through congress and didnt compromise or slow down. If only McConnell had allowed the vetting of Garland to proceed OR not ram barrett through last minute. His hypocrisy and seated republicans cheering it on really pissed me off. But he did both. he also changed the rules so judicial appointments take 2 hours now. |
