KC hit the jackpot with that kid! I love his game and his personality

Re: Around the NFL week 9
Throughout the build-up to the 2017 NFL draft, many scouts and pundits pegged this year’s quarterback class as a three-man affair between Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, and DeShone Kizer. With a series of strong workouts — and a glut of other options on the free agent landscape — a big-armed fourth candidate has emerged from the Big 12.
Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes has had a meteoric rise through the pre-draft process, working his way from a third day option to potential first-round pick. The Browns, Texans, Chiefs, and Cardinals have all been linked to the Red Raider quarterback. As mock drafts scramble to keep up, he’s been projected to go anywhere from Arizona’s No. 13 pick to the Chargers at No. 38. After a two-day visit with Houston, it seems unlikely he’ll slip past the 25th pick, where SB Nation’s Dan Kadar has him landing in his latest mock draft. Drafting Mahomes will be a calculated risk Mahomes has risen to the top of an underwhelming crop of quarterbacks. His NCAA numbers and physical talent suggest he’s No. 2 to only Deshaun Watson, but history pegs him as a backup at best. A deeper look at his skill set shows he’s somewhere in between. His arm strength gives him the ability to make the throws that can beat even the tightest coverage. He’s more mobile than his predecessors, and he’s shown he can buy enough time in the pocket to extend plays, then make throws on the run to frustrate defenses. His experience with Texas Tech, however, shows he’ll squander sure thing short gains to attempt big shots downfield. He can force throws that turn the frustration back on his own coaching staff. He can be skittish and undisciplined in the pocket, turning plays that rely on timing into free-for-alls with a lower chance of success. All these traits could sink his professional prospects. But quarterbacks with the arm strength to make plays few passers can will always have a place in the NFL’s hype cannon. Sometimes that works out well (Aaron Rodgers), other times it’s a wash (Cutler), but history shows playmakers like Mahomes have a home in the first round. https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2017/4/17/15326962/2017-nfl-draft-quarterback-patrick-mahomes-stock-rising-texans-cardinals KC and Reid took a chance and it paid off. |
Re: Around the NFL week 9
Reid wrote his ticket to the Hall of Fame with that Mahomes pick.

How is the 49ers and Green Bay being played with all these covid protocols? Seriously move the game to Monday night to make sure everything all good

He'll go down as a top 10 QB if not higher when it's all said and done |
Re: Around the NFL week 9
wow.
Aaron Rodgers, out of his 364 touchdown passes, only one of them was caught by a player taken in the first round. That came during the 2019 season. The player who caught the ball, tight end Marcedes Lewis, wasn’t even drafted by the Packers. |

That pick last year was a crime. |

Maybe higher. All depends on longevity and what the Chiefs do to win more championships. How long Reid stays. At this point his raw talent is really second to none. So far anyway. |
Re: Around the NFL week 9
Adams wasn't a 1st round pick but he's an all time great Packers WR already.. That 1st round stuff is overrated

I can't remember where I watched this but KC's GM was in Reid's ear about Mahomes long before the draft. He was really the one who got Reid on board. |
Re: Around the NFL week 9
The Bears could've had Mahomes. Instead they gave up picks to get Tribisky. Ouch.

Bears and WFT love making bad decisions in drafting QBs. I would even say it is kind of our jam. |

I would say there are plenty of examples across the years where just about every team got QB wrong. But yes, we do seem to have a penchant for it. |

Your comment reminds me of the country song title, "You can't even do wrong right". That song should be Dan Snyder's walkup music. |

Wow...ton of positive covid test across the league. I think it’s fatigue, people just living life.

Re: Around the NFL week 9
Cowboys QB Garrett Gilbert is way more talented than Alex Smith And Haskins
Let that sink in |
Re: Around the NFL week 9
Cowboys QB Garrett Gilbert is way more talented than Alex Smith And Haskins
Let that sink in
Capable and talented are 2 different things. Smith is far more talented than either but is currently (and maybe now never) incapable of performing on the level he once was. Maybe a full week or 2 with 1st team reps will improve things, but I'd say we're stuck with him as #1 the rest of the way and Haskins likely as #2, disgruntled or not. Maybe Haskins gets the wake up call that this is an opportunity but I doubt it. I have a feeling we could be seeing a whole new QB room by camp next year... |

Let that sink in
LOL, let's not get ahead of ourselves. It was one game against an undefeated team whose games have almost all been one score victories. Gilbert did aight. I'll give Dallas credit for bouncing back after being humiliated last week, that's about it. |

Alex Smith one TD was all Terry, wasn’t even a good throw. The ints were really bad. Alex did what he does best, check down. |
Re: Around the NFL week 9
I disagree. He had a nice game, got the ball down the field more than we've seen in a couple years. The first INT was not his fault as the RB fell down. The last two were terrible for sure. That's someone trying to be a hero...Funny thing is he's not ever been known for making dumb mistakes like that. I chalk it up to being out for two years, and just pressing way too much at the end of the game.
|
Re: Around the NFL week 9
Alex was slinging it and not always checking down, I think that's what got him in trouble with the INT's he started feeling it and was letting it fly. He probably knew he had to be aggressive if they were going to pull it out. I don't really fault him. The early turnovers are what did us in, again. Bad teams fall behind early and often and that's where we're at right now.

Re: Around the NFL week 9
Yep, with the exception of the Dallas game, the slow starts are a weekly trend.

Re: Around the NFL week 9
3 ints...don’t fucking sugar coat shit. Pathetic
Terrible trade and worst contract. I knew it when Bruce did it |

Yet they still operate the same way...diminishing Haskins trade value by leaks and not making him 2nd qb This team is still doing the same thing regardless |

Re: Around the NFL week 9
Of course Antonio Gibson has been bad in pass pro, where JD McK has excelled. Gibson cost Allen a season most likely. Bad coaching
|
Re: Around the NFL week 9
3 INTs will lose you most games, but it's not sugar coating things to say he played better than probably anyone was expecting and he did a good job of making it a close game again.
That said I'd rather see Haskins back in there or hell even Montez. Going forward with Alex doesn't make much sense. He's not the future. |

This. You could tell he was getting more comfortable, moving around in the pocket, on the first 2 min drill drive he was moving down the field comfortably with minimal pressure, then they blitzed and forced him to make a bad throw and Peppers made the play. The pick was terrible, throwing off his back foot, across his body, into the middle of the field. The Giants DC called it right though. And his 3rd pick was even worse. But I thought the McLaurin td really put some confidence in Smith that he can make those throws, and it got him in trouble at the end of the game. I'm fine rolling with him for next week, don't think it's fair to judge him after 2 years out of the game. If Allen is injured for several weeks at minimum I'm cool rolling with Smith. |
Re: Around the NFL week 9

Terrible trade and worst contract. I knew it when Bruce did it
Whatever man. You're real good at hindsight, I can see that. This team was what, 6-3 when he got hurt. No one could have predicted that. It was unfortunate, and the team hasn't figured out the QB position since that injury. That's a fact. Did they pay him too much, now that you look at what you got out of him? Yes. However, if it had all worked out differently - if he had been able to continue that season and beyond without the injury, who knows. I'm not sugarcoating anything. The two late INTs were terrible, and I said that. It happens to the best of them... Happen to see the Sunday night game? |
Re: Around the NFL week 9
Damn Jets! Went to bed thinking the Jets were going to win and maybe we’d have a shot at Lawrence
|
Re: Around the NFL week 9
Jets almost blowing their shot at Lawrence good thing they got their act in gear and lost.
|
Re: Around the NFL week 9
Don't get the Alex bashing. We were 6-3, probably 6-4 after that game. We are just dismissing this as no big deal? Compared to our usual shitshow such as this year, that should be celebrated.
The dude suffered the most devastating football injury I've ever seen. That pretty much invalidates trying to make a hindsight decision on the deal. We were competing and winning games, kind of the whole point. Not trying to win a beauty contest. And his contract is not crazy by any stretch in the QB market. I'm excited for him for Sunday. |

We'll see how it goes down the stretch, but my guess is as long as they are in the division race, we won't see Haskins - unless there's another QB injury :puke:. The only way to properly develop and evaluate this young roster is to put in the QB that gives you the best chance to do that, AND gives you the best chance to win. That is Alex Smith at this point. Also, I know A Smith's contract isn't all that team friendly over the next two years, but I wouldn't write him off just yet. |
