Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Thought maybe this deserved it's own thread. What are your thoughts on the trade deadline?
- Sell what you can to acquire future draft picks. - Buy some pieces to compete for the division this year, and build the team for the future. - Both - part ways with some players who aren't in the future plans, and add some pieces for the future. - Neither - sit tight and wait for the offseason to make some moves. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Sell is the only answer IMO.
What are we buying for? A potential div title with a losing record only to get bounced in the 1st rd and have a much lower draft pick? No thanks. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Both...we're rebuilding. Not just buying, not just selling. We're repairing and replacing.

Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
I think you have to look beyond any potential division title this year. If a division title happens, great, but I think if you are buying it has to be for reasons beyond this year. I wouldn't be opposed to that if they found the right guy(s). It's actually smart IMO.
My answer is both. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
A poll would probably be appropriate, but I'm not sure how to do that.
|
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
I'd trade RK and get a 4th for him if you still can. He's a good player but clearly isn't used as often anymore. As for trading for any "stars" no thanks, we need the picks and this roster is not good enough to come close to a playoff win. Kyle Allen looked solid Sunday but we all know he's not very good, we need a QB and the more games we win the less chances we have at getting a top 3 QB in this class. Sure you can get lucky like Seattle did and KC did with Mahomes but that's rare.
|
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Trade.
Ryan Kerrigan for anything, I just want to see him play meaningful games. Put him in the ring of honor when he retires. I dont think anyone Id want to trade is tradeable (Darby, Scherff) and I dont want to trade Fuller or any of the young guys. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Too bad Collins got hurt, would have loved to dump him

And Ironically for this team he goes down on his best game as a Skin smh |

My answer is both.
This is my thinking as well...if you can find a player that can help this season AND going forward on a deal, then yes...but it's usually hard to do. I want them to finish this season on a positive run to kickstart next season off. I'm not a fan of flushing this year totally in hopes that we somehow get our QB of the future in the offseason, because it's a good chance we won't. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Do not trade picks!!! Player for player swaps, sure, but no picks.
|
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
No deals will be made.
|
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
I get losing for draft picks, but that's if the ultimate goal is to eventually be a contender. I've long since dismissed the idea that this organization is capable of that. So I just want them to be as competitive as possible so that I might enjoy a Sunday five or six times a year.
Thoughts on Erik Reid to replace Collins? |

Thoughts on Erik Reid to replace Collins?
I dont think we need Reid or anyone. I think Deshazor Everett is good depth but I liked the way he was flying around against Dallas. im 100% fine with Everett, Curl and Apke. Have we moved Jeremey Reaves up from the practice squad yet? |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Apke makes me nervous. He seems overwhelmed.
|
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
I think we sell if we can. I would like to see RK get to 100 sacks with the team but he also deserves a chance to make a playoff run.
|
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
If someone is offering something good for guys near the end of their road than absolutely sell. We aren’t competing this year. It is all about the future.
That said it is impossible to buy for the future too. So basically whatever helps us going forward. |

Doesn't mean they are "out" on E Reid though. I guess they did offer him a spot on the practice squad though, and he declined. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Sheeeeit, we better not be buying unless there's a high-upside low cost vet available on the cheap. I'm talking Randy Moss for a 4th cheap.
Selling? Depends on the price, but Kerrigan and Anderson are two of our more attractive prospects. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
It is not so black and white. Buy or sell. It depends on the offer.
It takes time to improve a roster and fill all the weaknesses. If we can get a TE or fill another need for cheap, we should do it. We are not going to get everything we need in the next draft. Especially with our recent draft history. We do not have Bobby Beathard and Charlie Casserly to recreate another 1982 or 1983 draft again. Get talent any way we can. |

Free-agent Eric Reid: Declined Washington practice squad offer Jeez I gotta agree with Reid, he’s not a practice squad player. Woulda liked to see him on the squad. |

Or he's simply happy enough doing what he's doing to not want to take the offer. Current mood? I'm saying both; if we can shift players with value like RK, but down the rotation, and get some picks or a player who is going to be here for 2-3 years and contribute, go for it. I'm not sure I see many targets for bringing in on a trade, though if Njoku is available he could be worth it. Maybe even a good WR, but I can't see anyone likely to be available worth spending anything but a low round pick. In any case, what's the harm in bringing in someone to boost the current roster and will be around at least until the end of next season? Rebuilding or not, if someone can help us with a chance to win the division given how shitty it is, I say why not, but definitely not a half season rental. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
I like Jeremy Reaves, he’s an aggressive type player. Glad they promoted him.

A way to push Collins off the team. |

He could but realistically the only way he starts for a team this year is if their starting safety gets injured and the backup is deemed not good enough to handle duties for the rest of the year. That's not our case with Curl, he's earned the right to prove himself. I agree with Defensewins, it sounds like Reid either wants a starting job or he's gonna stay home and practice social distancing. No hard feelings on our end either way. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
If we sign Eric Reid, I will kneel in protest for his 1st play, then cheer for him to hit those sons of bitches on the other team.
I'd rather just go young though. Reid is not gonna be a key piece when this team is ready to compete. Rather get a young FA and see if we find a diamond in the rough. |

And we are 2 years away at least from legitimately competing. So I don't think we need to sign him. If we do, he's on our team, and I'll support him. But there's also a reason no one else has signed him. |

Agreed. Feels like we're not asking ourselves why he's sitting at home right now, and it's not because of kneeling (which has been a complete non-issue this season). If he was good enough he would've been signed by now. |

Then I looked up his stats .. 2019 - 124 tackles, 4 sacks, 6 PD Im fine adding him or not adding him. Perhaps Ron only offering a PS spot with no guarantees was him keeping his commitment to the guys who have been with him, practicing, studying and working out and letting them know that their work and commitment to him wont easily be set aside by immediately giving a new guy their starting spot. You have to earn it mantra. And if you do what is asked of you, you wont be tossed aside like a week old towel. |

Free-agent Eric Reid: Declined Washington practice squad offer Jeez I gotta agree with Reid, he’s not a practice squad player. Woulda liked to see him on the squad.
I feel like Coach Rivera is doing the right thing and giving the guys on the roster and on the practice squad the first shot to earn it. This shows strong loyalty to the team and sends the right message. Not bringing in an outsider right away. If one of the existing safety's is not good enough then they cut that guy and bring in Eric Reid. Reid will most likely be there if we need him in a few weeks. I think Reid wants to be here and we would be ok with him here. |

If he's that full of himself that he won't work his way up with a coach he knows, we do not want him. He has always been a "look at me" type of guy. Not sure why Rivera even reached out to him, he's not the type of person we want in the culture Coach is trying to create here. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
I'm fine with Reid remaining at home.
I'm actually interested to see what Del Rio can do with this young group of DBs. Eight of the nine DBs on the roster are 26 or younger, with Everett being the elder at 28 (Curl - 21). |

I doubt Dan would even trade him, even if RK was begging them to do so. He's one of his "core" Redskins. |
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
Trade Kerrigan for traft picks if we can get em.
|
Re: Buyers, Sellers, Both, or Neither?
I really hope Kerrigan plays his whole career here.
Why trade a player who's still contributing as much as he is? Even part time, he's making an impact. Also, a youth movement is a good thing, but we do need to retain some veteran leadership. |
