Midterm Election Game day Thread

Cred was hesitant I think because of the last game day thread he started, so I'll do it.

I do not think we will see a "blue wave" at the national level if it happens it will be at the local level. I am far more interested to see governor races and state houses play out. Also initiatives like voter id laws (imo biased), same day registration, in Maryland casino revenue, and of course pot.

On the national level I think I believe the narrative the most dems make subtle gains in the house and lose seats in senate.

Yeah, I start it, and the House would go 410-25 Dem's LOL

The blue wave will mostly be the governor races. I will find it interesting to see if the polling uncovered the reluctant Trump voter or if there still were a large number of inaccurate polls based on reluctance of respondents to be counted.

I think where you see large undecided numbers those races will swing toward Trump voters. Where polls are 50 49 or very few undecided, I think you will see Dems win. I also think that the Dem numbers are likely very accurate on polls, as their base is not only motivated but very outspoken toward pollsters. Conversely a significant portion of the Rep base has the basic distrust of polls and pollsters.

If there is even a 4% "hidden" poll error, a lot of the tossups go quickly to Republicans.

On this same side, I think the exit polls will skew the same way, as liberals will wear their votes on their sleeves, and many conservatives will withhold comment.

Blue wave my ass. I have no faith in my generation to show up.

I work for Fairfax County, the shop I worked at today is a polling place. I come in at 5:30 this morning and our normal parking lot was already half full with people waiting. I was inside and outside all day and all fucking day the parking lot was full with a line of people in the lobby.

And do you know how many millenials I saw? There was 10 old people for every young person I saw.

Literally saw 3 retirement community buses show up full of old people to go vote. As long as it stays like this the left has no chance. Kids are too fucking stupid these days.

Congratulations to President Trump, the fear mongering apparently did a hell of a job mobilizing his voter base.

I think one of the big stories for a while will be if Brian Kemp wins the governorship in Georgia. Kemp is a republican and is also the current secretary of state whose job is to oversee the 2018 election and ballot counts. That is a serious conflict of interest right there. Dude should have resigned from his current position as soon as he won the republican nominee.

Fair enough, counterpoint though: A lot of these people that showed up were working class folk like me and my coworkers (who generally favor Trump if they are a middle-aged white male, which majority are).

I don't want to draw any conclusions based on my own personal experience, but the image of the Trump supporter is a pretty acknowledged one.

Anyways, in light of the fact Kaine won reelection and Comstock got voted out, it seems the left showed up for nova.

Part of the reason why the stereotype of a Trump supporter or Republicans in general all look the same is that when people that are not the stereotype actually are right leaning they get lambasted. The paper in this case handled it right, but you see this type thing quite often. I could imagine its very difficult for non white people on the right to actually share their beliefs because they get branded traitors.

I agree, not saying his supporters are exclusively middle aged white males, but the majority definitely are.

Also I don't want to give Breitbart a click but FYI you can find that story on much more reputable websites. Believe it or not that partisan hack MSNBC had it as one of their leads yesterday afternoon.

Not really surprised was hoping that FL gov race and Tex senate race would have been different. We had a blue neap tide (not a wave) in Maryland. Around Baltimore three republican county executive incumbents were running for reelection and two of them lost the only one I was surprised with was Anne Arundel county.

A Texas judge reportedly released nearly all of his juvenile defendants after losing his re-election on Tuesday, but not before asking if they planned to kill anyone.

Harris County Juvenile Court Judge Glenn Devlin on Wednesday ordered the release of at least seven kids ― four facing aggravated robbery charges ― reasoning that this was what the voters wanted, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Devlin, a longtime Republican jurist who has been a presiding judge in the 313th District Court since 2010, was one of dozens of Republicans who had their seats snatched by a Democrat in the state in Tuesday’s midterm election.

You want juveniles running loose who were arrested on armed robbery to be set free?

Its amazing where some see criminals as the victims.

So any concern for the victims of the crimes? And who needs laws right?

No where did I say we don't hold those that commit crimes accountable. It is not about not penalizing criminals. We are failing as a society to provide food security, quality of life, proper education the list can go on. But sticking 13-17 year olds that lack executive functioning into prison is not the solution. That leads them on a pathway in which they will be unable to assume adult roles. Then we keep paying for this shit over and over.

Idk, I'm in a gray area on this. It's one thing if it's something simple like a weed charge, I mean at most that should just be a simple fine and move on. But violent crimes should def. be locked up imo, if you want to redefine criminal justice so offenders get rehabbed instead of spending decades behind bars I'm fine with that, but that would require an adjustment to the system as a whole. Aka more emphasis on rehab, and education, and less on "stick them in a box until they're done serving time." Until that happens, I'm fine with keeping violent offenders behind bars.

Also this. The judge released them not because he thinks the justice system needs reform, he released them because quote unquote "the Dems are going to do that anyway." FOH with that bs, violent offenders can stay locked up for all I care. Aggravated robbery isn't some innocent charge where there's no victim.

Maryland has a special primary tomorrow to vote on the candidates who can run for recently deceased Elijah Cummings spot as US House Rep for MD Dist 7.

I live in Howard County, I thought Cummings district was Baltimore City ... somehow I guess Columbia MD is Dist 7 so I get to vote tomorrow.
---------------------------

Voter thought process (for me but Im a pretty average generic dude)...

Jay Jalisi - I was going to vote for him bc he is the only sign I have noticed up in my neighborhood. one of those big like corner signs with his picture on it. Looks like a decent guy, hes a doctor ...

I just read he doesnt have family.

I got family. How could he begin to relate to family needs. If you dont have kids, you just cannot understand things like the importance of affordable after school care.

-------------

So now Im checking out the names of the Ds. Like 20 of them. I just want to make sure Im not voting for someone that has been unemployed and is just running to get a name for themselves.

Then I see this dudes picture.

Jill Carter as a Dem looks to the best candidate and I imagine and hope she wins. Still voting for the beard guy though.

-----------------

How the hell is Baltimore City in the same district as Columbia MD? The needs, problems, climate are nothing a like. Seems like most candidates are exclusively addressing Baltimore City needs like the Inner harbor, Balt City schools ... what about the burbs of HoCo?

but theres the rub. I know very little about any candidate and theres like over 20 Ds and 6 or so Rs. I looked at half the Ds and they all seem to be Baltimore City exclusively focused.

Howard County w huge populated neighborhoods like Columbia should not be in the same district as Baltimore City.
