Prospect Profiles : News : Senior Bowl
I was just discussing him today with another draftnik. Killebrew certainly has an NFL physical skillset. Height-weight-speed he looks the part. Have you watched him on tape yet? (I watched the Sam Houston game, interested in your take if you watched him) Listening to the recent 'hype' I've heard him compared to Kam Chancellor and Deone Buc. I 'scouted' D Buc heavily....
Posted 26 January 2014 - 05:47 PM Deone Bucannon vs Stanford 35 plays 24 plus (+3 cov w/interception) (...@ 2:58 jacks the RT back on 4th and 1; 4:42 nice read and react for interception Cover 2) 2 minus (penalty) Overal from this game: Hit with consistent pop. Brings arms. Consistent good pursuit paths/finding the ball carrier. Consistently squares up. Drive through to finish tackles. attacked blockers. Plays with high motor.Aggressive at point of impact. Very willing tackler. Good coverage awareness. Plays half field SAF. Has controlled movement efficient movement.
Kille is certainly one to watch at the Senior Bowl though, if he's anything like D. Buc he'll be laying the lumber. |

Starts off the post season scouting bowl games with the Shrine game then Senior bowl. ------------------------------------ Another height-weight-speed prospect that should project as a late round pick is Jay Lee WR, Baylor. I'm curious to hear about him. |
Re: Senior Bowl 2016
In just my limited time watching the Killebrew film (about 6-7 minutes or so) he would take the hit more than deliver it. Seemed to have good play recognition, but too many times he was letting the velocity of the other team overtake him. Makes me scared for someone that size. Wouldn't say tentative, but he just didn't have his acceleration there. It's like he would break down for the tackle and just stop moving his feet. *shrugs*

We have some potentially devastating losses on the defensive line if certain things happen/don't happen: Hatcher retires and Knighton isn't resigned. Baker is the one solid DT we have left. RJF was good in spot duty, but I think we'll sorely miss Hatcher's pressure (even if he didn't always get there). Clark would be an awesome, versatile piece to the middle of the defense. |

It's only a 1 game sample size but I left that game feeling thatMiles lacked aggression and imho that is a trait a S must have all the time. Maybe he'll bring the wood at the Senior Bowl, but without that aggression for me personally I wouldn't pick him before the 4th round and that's only if he checks off everything else...speed, agility, coverage, range etc. The comparison's I've read about him to D. Buc and Kam Chancellor seem way, way off base.

I haven't watched Clark yet (I start my layman scouting process now) but from what I've read from cbs seems like a stout run defender and our defense could use those. They have him projected 1-2 round. I'll have to keep an eye out for him at the Combine. |

Jeremy Cash SS/LB from Duke seems like the physical SS we would expect Miles to be.... 2:31 p.m. Duke safety Jeremy Cash was nearly 6-1 and weighed 212 pounds at the Senior Bowl weigh-in. He was one of our more productive safetys but really made his mark as a run defender and pass rusher. The questions will be: Is he a safety or an outside linebacker? Does he have a Deone Bucannon role in the NFL? — Plocher |

I'd like one each, please! :) Seriously, we could use a hitter who could cover tight ends. |

Agreed. Not tentative, but DEFINITELY not aggressive. It was like he was too afraid to miss the tackle. I have a ton of faith in Scot, but I also look at the positions that bust the highest and DBs (along with QBs/WRs) tend to bust much more often than linemen, both offensive and defensive. I think taking the best DT (Kenny Clark! :)) and then best C with the second pick would beef up two weak spots on both lines. After that, I'm down to try and take the next Bashaud Breeland and hope we catch lightening in a bottle twice. |

Few players in this year's draft possess Killebrew's on-field aggression. As a senior he had 132 tackles and excelled on coverage duties.
I'm gonna take a look at his other game and maybe we just watched a 1 game aberration? But aggression imo is trait that is evident in every game. Makes me remember that around draft season some media members will make statements fueled by hearsay from coaches, scouts, team officials, agents that can be off base sometimes wildly off base and right now his comment on Miles could be one of them.
I have a ton of faith in Scot, but I also look at the positions that bust the highest and DBs (along with QBs/WRs) tend to bust much more often than linemen, both offensive and defensive. My view when it comes to the draft all any team can do is make accurate evaluations and rankings of players and allow the draft to play out and take the best player available at the time you pick. (A caveat on BPA is that it includes your own team. Therefore for a draft pick to the BPA they also have to be the BPA on your own team.) If the draft played out to where a DL and C were BPA somewhere in the 1st 4 rounds that would be great. But I would be fine with ILB or Pass Rusher or WR or CB as well. It all depends on how the draft plays out. |
Re: Senior Bowl 2016
Carson Wentz lol for fucks sakes...people and the draft will never learn. I hope Dallas takes this guy at 4.

Re: Senior Bowl 2016
I don't know Chico. I always get worried that they'll find their next franchise QB instantly instead of suffering with the Drew Bledsoes and Quincy Carters for years. I still worry they'll take Ezekiel Elliot. WAY too high for him, but damn he would look good behind that line.
30gut, maybe you're right on that one game, but how do you "teach" aggression? You can shape technique and do film study to fix intangibles, but it's like saying you can someone's personality. I would be nervous as hell taking a WR or CB if we didn't have Scot. My fears are alleviated a bit with him in charge, but last thing we need is to miss on a first or second round pick while we're still rebuilding. I wouldn't hate ILB, but I think Mason and Compton are more than adequate right now and we can invest the picks elsewhere. |
Re: Senior Bowl 2016
Scot just interviewed he said;
doesn't see them trading up... wants more picks ... still have a long way to go it sounds like the odds are high that they will trade down again |
Re: Senior Bowl 2016
Seems like a deep draft at positions of need, so I'm all for it.

Makes sense, but he says "we have some money, it's gonna be similar"...I imagine as in last year. If that's the case, junior gallete, pot roast, culliver and paea wasn't exactly sitting on the sidelines. Still he is saying the focus will be draft which is the perfect plan. Culliver and paea were not exactly small deals...those deals could snag a Denver linebacker like trevathen or Marshall... |

it's not about cost with McC, it's about value.

If they are just as active as last year, you are looking at about 4 starters. Keep in mind Scot would be foolish to telegraph his plans. The dude is JACKED. Love what I'm reading about the Senior Bowl practices too. I worry that if he does well at OLB there (which I think he is) he'll be gone before we pick. If we're taking an LB, that's who I want for sure. |

It's possible he could be gone, but a combo of him and Compton would be so sweet |
Re: Senior Bowl 2016
This guy:
Notre Dame center Nick Martin continued his strong week with an impressive practice on Thursday. He had two superb reps to stop Louisiana Tech's Vernon Butler in the one-on-ones. Martin stood up a bull rush as Butler got too high. He kept Butler away from the marker later after some initial penetration. This week has shown that Martin has good technique and should be ready to compete quickly in the NFL. |
Re: Senior Bowl 2016
From Mike Mayock:
" Michigan State center Jack Allen is a very quick, tough kid. It's a really good center class. Centers don't get valued as highly as they should. I don't know what round he's going in, I just know he's going to make somebody's team, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up starting somewhere." Like Ive been stating, this years Centers class has some prospects. Most of the Safety talk out of senior bowl appears to be about 2 players: Jeremy Cash SS and Darian Thompson FS. And I can't wait to watch these guys game cut-ups.
I would be nervous as hell taking a WR or CB if we didn't have Scot. As long as the right process is followed to evaluate, assess and rank then I would always pull the trigger on BPA regardless of position. When it comes to ILB, I like our guys especially Keenan (when healthy). But in this 1-gap scheme they aren't covered up like they were in Haslett's 2-gap. So instead of run and chase/hit they have to engage-fill-shed much more often then before and they imo they're lack of ability in that style of play shows in our run defense. So if the ILB core remains status quo then we're gonna have to get a lot better up front if there's gonna be improved run D. For what its worth PFF rated Perry Riley and Will Compton near the bottom of ILB when it comes to run defense. And imo its supported by our run D ranking. Ragiland looks like the text book 1-gap 34 ILB and has the background in a pro-style defense. |

Watching the speed, suddenness and violence of his hand work and overall movement reminded me of JJ Watt attacking the sled with his pass rush moves in the youtube clip below 1st ~30s: . Obviously JJ is on another level. But compared to the other DL at the Senior Bowl Rankings looked more polished in his pass rush to me.
