Can't say i'm too surprised but what a shame. I thought he had the tools to be a good corner for us. Not sure if this needs an entire thread for itself. Just thought the masses would be happy to read the news. If need be, move this post wherever you want mods. |

He was a mess in coverage...wish the best for him
|
Re: Amerson Waived
What a waste of a pick, him and Phillip Thomas.
|
Re: Amerson Waived
One thing I really like about McCloughan is he seems to be a no nonsense type of GM. Too many times i've seen players STILL playing here who haven't met expectations all because of a big name or something else.
The message is clear now. If you don't perform you're out the door. |
Re: Amerson Waived
We could have gotten players like Eddie Lacy, Travis Kelsey, Tyran Mathieu, TJ McDonald, JJ Wilcox, etc. all picked after him. Another bust from our great ex-GM Shanarat.
|
Re: Amerson Waived
Best of luck, David.
|
Re: Amerson Waived
I guess the talk of perhaps converting him to safety was not substantiated. Or maybe Trenton Robinson's performance made that a non-starter. Or both. A shame.

Re: Amerson Waived
Shocker

I'm not really too heartbroken by skipping Lacy and Kelcey. In the end, I think we didn't lose too much. Pieces like those wouldn't have made us a complete team back then anyway. |

Robinson is better and Amerson is terrible. You can't polish a turd into a diamond. Sticking Amerson into safety, he would've been terrible there as well. Plus you invested in bringing over a couple dudes at safety, and drafted a dude as well. I dunno, but I trust a Scotty draft pick way more than I trust a Shanahan one. Note: Except Morris. He did alright with that one. :joecool: |
Re: Amerson Waived
Agreed on Morris. ^

Morris had 18 carries yesterday. Jones had 19 carries. Seems like they're splitting the work pretty evenly, just like the coaches have said they would. |
Re: Amerson Waived
I bet if amerson would have come out and made an impact on special teams vs the rams he'd still be on the roster. Instead he was a ghost and had a penalty called against him.

The coaches and Scotty demand good play or I would imagine, at least showing some sort of improvement if you're not that good. Amerson has been on the downswing since last year. I feel like they were probably like, "Hey, you're falling down the depth chart. We like you, we'll put you on ST, show us what you got." Then he went out and got a penalty. Basically signed his own pink slip. |

There are always guys you could have gotten. Draft hindsight is mostly a poor man's exercise. Our system (and coaching) has been so messed up, there's just no saying that anyone would have come in and performed based on what they did somewhere else. |

Cooleys take on 980 today was that based on Gruden's non-answer about Jones taking more carries than Morris going forward, that he thinks Jones will become the 1 in the 1-2 punch by years end. |

eh.. it was a garbage draft class that year.. there were probably only 15-20 quality players in the entire draft.. |

It produced one starter and one backup. |

I was on the Mathieu bus hard, and if I remember correctly, a lot of people here didn't want him. |
Re: Amerson Waived
2013 was just a crappy draft class. Not just for us, but for the entire league. Take a look at the top picks - lots of busts in there.
|
Re: Amerson Waived
this wasn't a real surprise. he's been thru a few different coaches now & the play didn't seem to be getting any better.
too bad, he has good size. I wish him well. |
Re: Amerson Waived
I did not realize that Kearse was resigned in the process.....Cool
|
Re: Amerson Waived
The odd thing is Amerson played pretty well as a Rookie then dropped off.
Hopefully he can find that fire again and make something of his career. |

I remember thinking that season we easily had a #2 that could step into a #1 if/when DHall got injured in the future... Hmmm... *opens a new tab and goes to the "I was wrong when... thread"* |

Re: Amerson Waived
The Colts are missing their top 3 CB's to injury, wouldn't surprise me if they put a claim for him tomorrow.
|
Re: Amerson Waived
Amerson was good in a scheme like cover 2, where he wasn't out on an island.
Covering one guy for an extended time? He got consistently burned even in college. Shanny drafted him for the defense at the time, to play zone, jump routes, and tackle. Really not Amerson's fault we changed schemes, though he is limited because he tends to get burned often. |
Re: Amerson Waived
He had opportunity, unfortunately he didn't make the most out of it. Good luck and farewell.

Re: Amerson Waived
Raiders claimed CB David Amerson off waivers from the Redskins.
Still only 23, Amerson is blessed with ideal size and speed, but was a frequent burn victim in the Redskins' secondary. There are snaps there for the taking in Oakland's beat up secondary, but there's little reason to believe Amerson will be any more effective for coach Jack Del Rio than he was in Washington. -per Ian Rapport |

David Amerson tops PFF’s award list for Most Improved Player
Amerson was the Redskins’ second-round pick in 2013, and saw the field in every game during his rookie season. He struggled with consistency throughout the year, and finished with a relatively low coverage grade, which placed him 92nd out of 110 cornerbacks. Last season his coverage grade dropped even further, and he slid all the way down to 106th at his position. Amerson was released after Week 1 this season, and was subsequently picked up by the Raiders, where he’s been a completely different player ever since. The former NC State standout posted a positive production grade in 2015, despite being targeted 104 times (sixth-most among NFL CBs). On those targets, he allowed just 58 completions and one touchdown. He tied for fifth overall with 13 passes defensed, and also picked off four passes. Last season, he allowed more completions (61) on fewer targets (91), and an NFL-high 10 touchdowns when targeted. Quarterbacks had a 140.2 rating when targeting Amerson in 2014; this season, that number has dropped to 62.7. His improvements have brought him up to an 83.4 overall grade, good for 15th out of all cornerbacks this season. |

Those grapes would have been sour anyway.

Re: Amerson Waived
I hope he learns to stay disciplined and not go for double moves a lot.
