Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Holy sh*t. This is the best thing to happen to the Redskins in a long time.
|
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Best move in years, bring on the next DC.
|
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
I hope this franchise doesn't drive him to drink again. I'm not totally joking
|
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Here we go again. F u Snyder doing just enough to keep me a fan.

Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
It should be noted that the GM role can mean a lot of things. We'll have to see, but I think this is pretty similar to what just happened with the Eagles in that Howie Roseman was "promoted" to let Chip Kelly have personnel decision making.
I am guessing McLoughan will report to Allen, with Allen empowering him to make draft selections, while Allen retains contract negotiation and cap management duties. But whatever, bottom line is this is a talented personnel guy who will actually be picking the personnel. He wouldn't have taken the job otherwise. |
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Hopefully he will bring us the next Russell Wilson and Richard Sherman.
|
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Time will tell, but as of now I am glad we made this move.

Wonder if this bring us more towards Vic Fangio? |
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
John Schneider gets most of the credit for building the roster in Seattle, in my opinion Scot deserves that credit instead, even if they are buddies.

I'm guessing Donatell or Ken Norton Jr. But one never knows. |
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Best move Snyder has made as owner of the team... There is now light at the end of the tunnel..

I'm not sure it wasn't Allen making this move. |

They just need to leave him alone and let him do his job. Snyder and his clones just need to step aside. |
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Well Dan has done it again. I'm back in for another year.. Hopefully this will start being a professionally run organization.
|
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
A name to temper the optimism: Matt Flynn.
|
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
This is a very high risk move, IMO. I don't doubt his ability to do a great job as GM.
|
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
There's hope for us yet.

McCloughan may be a genius, but he won't succeed here if Gruden and his staff don't develop his players. Seattle and San Francisco have great coaching staffs. Gruden hasn't proven a thing yet. |
I hope this franchise doesn't drive him to drink again. I'm not totally joking
That's my worry. The stress/drama going to make the guy go back to binge drinking. Let's hope for his sake and for ours that doesn't happen. |

Pete Carroll wasn't very good the first go round. Takes good players. |

I was talking about Gruden and his staff here in Washington. |

According to some of the DC ESPN affiliates, he's the kind of guy who tries to...."control" his drinking with only drinking a beer....now and then.. In all seriousness, that rarely works. LOVE the move and I hope. LORD HOW I HOPe.....it works |

Dan Snyder has a new drinking buddy! :Smoker:

This was my biggest concern above all. :( Now, here's hoping we got something long term RIGHT this time! |
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Really like this move. A true talent evaluator in the position to do just that. Bruce does a good job with the cap, and that is where his focus should lie (as well as being the public face which he is pretty good at). Just glad we have a talent guy who is responsible for acquiring talent and not a cap guy anymore.

Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
Hopefully this will put an end to the quick fix nonsense we see with this team year after year.

Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
NFL Network makes it sound like Scot McCloughan will get free reign to run the scouting department. I really like that he has had success (good track record) and is considered by his peers to be a very good FO person. most of all he is relatively young 42 or so.
We have come a long way from a FO run by Vinny 'bag of doughnuts' Cerratto and Dan Snyder. Now Hazlett is gone. Things are starting to look up. |

Can I get a fu*k yeah? Look at us, attempting to be a real professional football team! Now I'm really looking forward to the draft. Find us some winners.

What's the risk? Can it actually get worse than it was the past 2 years? I suppose a run of futility like the Jags, Browns, Raiders, Redsk...oh wait a minute. Seriously, there's not much risk at all...but I'm still in wait and see mode. |
Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM
I'm all in for this move. I don't see this being much of a risk at all. It's a better situation than AJ Smith, Bruce Allen, and especially Vinny Cerrato being involved with personnel.

Be afraid ... be very afraid! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
Except this HAD to be done. There wasn't any other choice that wouldn't have incited fan riots. If you think about it, we're in uncharted territory now -- Schottenheimer, Gibbs and Shanahan all had the dual role of head coach & general manager/player-personnel decider-in-chief. Then you had Spurrier and Zorn being fed with players from Bozo the Clown. Now there's a guy from the outside with football acumen, and a resume of success at picking out talent. Dare I say it ... but, ... it's different this time. |
