Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
He and Clark (at a decent price) would be a pretty decent safety tandem. Draft one in the second or third round and I'd be satisfied.

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
We have a safety who can start! Let's hope that this is a good one year rental.

I'd like to see us develop Thomas and Rambo. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
If the pass rush had improved then we can get by for a year with Merriweather, a healthy Thomas and another vet added. A draft pick early would round it out.

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Right now good for him, hopefully end of season good for us.

Isn't Thomas' injury typically a 2 year injury? |

Youth is on his side but you're right, Lisfranc is no joke. We'd be wise to have an insurance plan for him. Rambo and Gumbs do not count. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
what about 37?
|
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Get ready to see a bunch of this.

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
In my homer glasses, I think if we get him playing more strong safety he will return to form this year. He knows his career is on the line, and after injuries and being the joke of the league with the irresponsible hits, it's time to prove himself.
Just hope it's a favorable contract with his injury and suspension-prone history.. |

I don't know about 2 year. It's definitely a tough recovery and not a sure thing he ever gets back. I wws speaking optimistically. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
I'm glad this move isn't getting ripped apart as I thought it would ..... Merriweather can be solid IMO, he has shown glimpses of being a good Safety .. now obviously that's all overtaken by the flags and fines .. however I think he can do the job & I must say that I think it's great how the Skins' FO kept this team in tact by signing all of our own FA's. 3-13 isn't a bad season it's an awful season, BUT the guys we kept were the right guys excluding losing Montgomery (i think he got a raw deal and i know the guy personally as a friend, local kid out of Centreville went to high school with him, life long skins' fan too .. total bummer) but i digress ... things are shaping up nicely .. solid draft is the key and maybe another handful of moves ... can't wait for sept

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
I like Meriweather but hes gotta focus out there. Chicken with head cut off-esque at times.
|
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Still missing one safety... Rambo played so awful last year im sorry people enough with it. He looked iffy in the college film i had watched before his first start and i pondered how hed fit and still hoped. Nah man, nah.
Cb1- Hall Cb2/Cb3 Situational- Porter / Amerson FS- RAMBO does not fit here. Meri is a strong. SS- Meriweather |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
We re-signed Psycho Killer.
|
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Awesome!
What would we have done without his 3 quarters of good play over the last 2 years? |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Bad signing. We dont need the penalties he collects.
|
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
I'm hoping Thomas can return and take over a starting spot.
At this point, I think we may need to re-sign Doughty. There's some decent FAs still out there, I still think we should look at Major Wright and Thomas DeCoud. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Ahhh.... another season of yellow flags, hefty fines, and bad angles.
Safety problems solved!! |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Have we settled on what position Porter is playing?

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Trying to look at this objectively...once they missed on Byrd I think it makes some decent sense that the other Safeties available aren't really much better than BW. Why put 5 years into a younger version of the same average S? Rent the guy you know for another year and take a another swing at it next year. BW hasn't been terrible. The penalties have been the problem.

Exactly. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Bad safety signs with team for insignificant amount of money. It's free agency's second week!

Who is BW? You mean BM? |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Good move. I know he's quite controversial in Redskins Nation, but I think it's the way to go.
Now you have to wonder if Doughty will be back. Hard to see them both resigned... |
Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Doughty > Meriweather
But I have to imagine they're going to have BM on a very short leash after his antics last season. |

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
I really didn't want him back. He would have been an all pro each year in the 80's but with today's rules he is a liability.

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Slightly above vet minimum, better then anything else on our roster currently. Why not.
Slightly above vet minimum, better then anything else on our roster currently. Why not.
Exactly! Look at our roster people and tell me we have a better safety ready to play. Outside of drafting or signing a lower level free agent (Neither of which are guaranteed to play better than Merriwether) we have nobody. For a reasonable price I'm glad he's back. He's definitely not the long term solution hit he can fill in for another year while we get our defense together. Eliminate the flags and he's not terrible. If anything AT LEAST he's a presence in the secondary that receivers might fear, legal hits or not. |

Re: Redskins re-sign Brandon Meriweather to 1 year deal
Would you guys still rather of had Landry or Meriweather?

Honestly, Merriweather. At least when he makes one play every 3 games he doesn't talk shit the rest of the game. |

Who's to say that won't happen. All they did was re-sign him . They didn't anoint him the all-time starter. The starting job is there for the taking. |
