|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Sounds good to me.
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
So does that mean Jim Hasslet is still the Defensive head coach? UGH!

Yes |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
I like it. I was hoping for Gruden or Wisenhunt. Also it looks like Haslett is staying as DC. Interested to see who Gruden brings in for the rest of his staff.
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
WOW, got my guy!
Part of me wanted to go away from anyone with connections with the current staff- but I reallllllly liked Gruden. Very excited- I think his offense and coaching style will mesh well with this team. Wahoo!:woot: |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
I wish that the hiring process were allowed to carry on to the designed end, rather than halting once Gruden was in the building. We never interviewed folks like Zimmer and Roman.
But it is what it is. Forward! |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
(As discussed here but):
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora 9s Jim Haslett will remain the Redskins D coordinator in Washington, according to sources on Jay Gruden's new staff |
Eh not real excited. Hope it works out and if he keeps Haslett that's a fucking joke
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Haslett...{sigh}. Hopefully we move back to a 4-3 then.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Sean McVay becomes OC!
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Is there something I dont know about why Haslett is still here? Like was Shanahan forcing him to call bad plays and have bad schemes and hes good otherwise?
I think him staying is bigger news that us hiring a coach |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Ok, well we know where we stand. Hey Gruden, I hope you can get Griffin and company to score 45 a game because this defense will be giving up 35 a game.
If I watch the Redskins play next year I will watch when their offense takes the field then turn to another channel when they go on defense so I don't throw stuff at my TV. |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Now Shefter saying:
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 59s Redskins TE coach Sean McVay is expected to become Washington's OC, per league sources, Raheem Morris the likely defensive coordinator. Ahhh Twitter.... |

Who the hell knows. Time to start spending some cash money. We have a weak enough division hopefully next year to rebound. EDIT: Pleassseee no Haslett |

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
If Gruden holds onto Haslett after all this mess, we're definitely not starting off on the right foot.

Haslett needs to go now, thats a Danny Boy move if he stays and Im pissed |
If Haslett stays I will be sick. My only hope is its JLC who is as often wrong as he is right about the skins
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
They can't be serious about keeping Haz.
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Haslett prob will stay as asst. HC to help him Gruden with the HC duties.

I think him staying is bigger news that us hiring a coach[/quote] Probably due to the history between Haslett and Gruden back with the Florida Tuskers in `09. Of course now it's looking like Raheem Morris will be DC now.... |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Sean McVay as offensive coordinator who is TWENTY SEVEN. Holy crap I'm old and unsuccessful.
|

hate this. but they say it was moreso the personnel we had than the coaching so we shall see. |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Well the narrative about Haz was that Shanny was interfering on D since he let KS run the O and therefore had nothing else to do. We also rarely spent any money on the D. SO Haz was pretty hamstrung. BUT...his D has never been good. Here or anywhere else.

If it helps, you are also older than 35% of NFL players, and Justin Beiber. |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Obviously he was their guy. They got the guy they wanted so let's see what happens!
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
I dont know how to feel about Sean McVay. He's been heavily endorsed and said to be on the up and coming but I guess we must wait and see...

Keim "6.I know Jay Gruden’s brother, Jon, is high on Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins. During an interview I had with him before the Monday night game against San Francisco, Jon Gruden brought up his name unprompted. Does that mean his brother is equally high on Cousins? Don’t know. I do know he preferred Andy Dalton over Colin Kaepernick when they both came out of college. But Gruden said that was more because Dalton was much closer to being ready to play immediately. A number of teams liked Kaepernick, but felt he was more of a project. What does it mean for Robert Griffin III? One person involved in the process said if Gruden could turn Dalton into a playoff quarterback, what could he do with Griffin? We might find out soon. Also, Griffin was a consensus top-2 pick, so we're not talking a direct comparison and that Gruden somehow does not like this style of quarterback. Most coaches like quarterbacks who have talent. Griffin remains the most talented one on the Redskins'" hmmm |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
I'm fine with the Jay Gruden hire, experienced NFL OC from a team that has had three straight playoff appearances with a 30-18 record in a competitive AFC North. He has made something out of nothing in Andy Dalton. We didn't go for the splashy hire, retread coach, some guy out of retirement or a college coach experiment.

That would be saying a lot. Or you don't remember Spurrier and Zorn. |

No way around that |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
I'll say this about Haz. At various times our D looked absolutely outclassed and incapable of doing anything. That's reflective of the talent more than anything. Knowing that and considering at times they also looked almost good for stretches perhaps maybe Haz did a better job than we think given the talent level, Note: this is my eternal optimism shining through I am pretty sure.

He had 33 td's, his turnovers were obviously up but let's not act like Dalton is a garbage QB. He's made the playoffs every year and his numbers got better every year. To me that's a positive. Whether Gruden prefers Griff's style over a Cousins type? ...we'll see. But I would also think that Gruden isn't going to be loyal to either guy. |
