Redskins Cuts
Cuts are starting to come in. So let's post them here
FB Eric Kettani WR Donte Stallworth |
Re: Redskins Cuts
I wondered if Kettani would make it. Is he eligible for the practice squad. If so I imagine he will go there. I am surprised Stallworth was cut before Briscoe.
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
Stallworth had no shot. Too injured mostly.
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
I'm surprised Stallworth was here this long. He couldn't stay healthy. And he's a veteran that Shanahan respects. A guy like that Shanahan will usually cut early to give him a good shot elsewhere
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
Kettani really had no shot. DY is really one of the best at his position. Kettani is likely headed for the PS squad if he can't latch on somewhere else.
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
Kettani had no chance. Paul or even Keiland would be backup FB's if needed. The team got what they needed in good PR w/ Kettani's Navy ties.

Re: Redskins Cuts
anyone know the plans of replacing crawford in the return game? i see where cribbs got cut. i just cant stand the idea of paul being the number one return guy. really have no idea how he is still around?

People have been talking about Chris Thompson. He is super fast. But his ball security issues give me the heebie-jeebies personally. |

Have you watched our special teams, Paul is our best special teams player. |

And he's improved his blocking on offense too. I know it's an amazing concept, giving a player time to develop. If some people had their way here players would never get that chance. |

Apparently people are saying Cribbs isn't the same since his knee injury, so I dunno about that. I guess if Thompson puts the ball on the ground too much we can always get Randle El to take a break from sideline reporting and field some punts... :silly: |

If some people had their way here players would never get that chance.
Another thing about Niles people don't think about; he's basically a buffed up WR. He also returned kicks (and punts ) at Nebraska. He can fill in if need be at PR should Thompson continue to suffer from fumblelitis. Back to Niles, it'll be real fun this year watching him line up all over the field and when we use 3 and even 4 TE sets, finding ways to get him Davis and Reed the ball. |

I know it's an amazing concept, giving a player time to develop. If some people had their way here players would never get that chance.
Somewhere, Leonard Hankerson is emphatically nodding his head. Amazing that some people actually think he'll get cut. Like, they actually believe that! I hope Royster gets cut. The Redskins need to quit wasting time with that guy. He's been given enough time to develop, and he's still not very good. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Royster is an average player who is fine as back-up RB. He's just nothing special. He gets the yards blocked, rarely more (or if he does get more, just not many more). He isn't a change of pace back, not a great receiver and does okay blocking. He really is a poor man's Morris. But so is K. Williams and Williams plays teams. Neither is a replacement for Helu as the "change of pace back", but it seems that Williams is the better receiver and Royster the (ever-so-slightly) better blocker (though neither particularly good).
Either Williams or Royster stays as the Morris back-up (to be replaced by Jamison next year). Thompson makes it as the Helu back-up and PR/KR. I am betting on Williams. Sorry SS, Royster is the Chase Daniels of RB's. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Say another bad word about Chase and I'll ban you and speak ill of you to anyone thinking of adding you to their fantasy league

whoa whoa whoa!! I said nothing bad about Chase. He just got caught in a numbers game. I think he and Royster are solid NFL players. Hell, I think Chase would give KC a more explosive offense than Smith. Royster can play in this league and be an average starting RB - nothing special but moves the chains. Unlike Chase, however, lots of guys can play RB in this league. Not so at the QB position. Alles klar Herr Kommisar? |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Trueblood , Chip Reeves and Josh Potter cut
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
How many do they need to cut? I guess its 15, but the Crawford injury makes it 14, I guess.
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
Paul is 3rd or 4th string TE, depending how Reed develops. Outside of 3 and 4 TE sets he should never see the field while we're on offense. But his teams play should keep him on the roster, especially with Zo gone this year.
And it's a good situation for him. Can't see another team trying to develop him on offense, he'd be teams only and probably even more on the bubble. |

Re: Redskins Cuts
I still see value in Paul at TE. He played ok on offense down the stretch and is a heck of a teams guy. With health being a concern at TE it makes sense to keep him.

TEs are the primary backups at FB. Paul and Paulson. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Shame Trueblood couldn't provide much-needed RT depth, but I wasn't expecting much out of him.
I was hoping Pashos could get back to his old form and beat Polumbus. Maybe later in the year after he learns the system better. Our left side is solid. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Too bad Muckleroy and Sturdivant didn't show a little more.

Who will the 4 RBs?
Morris, Helu, Thompson and Royster or Williams. My bet is Williams over Royster. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
It just gives you so much more roster flexibility to have 2 or 3 guys who can do a couple things.

Re: Redskins Cuts
I may be in the minority here, but I like Royster. I hope he sticks. He's over 5 YPC as a 'Skin, and he strikes me as a pretty good receiver out of the backfield.

You may be in the minority, but it is an excellent choice if you desire to kiss up to a mod who shall remain nameless. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Too bad Muckleroy and Sturdivant didn't show a little more.
I'm not sure if Muck was PS eligible but MLb Compton remains on roster so far. I guess the Steeler game helped swing his favor for PS.
TEs are the primary backups at FB. Paul and Paulson.
Yes, I agree although, tall TE's being forced to play FB just isn't a great fit. I like 'em short and stout for better leverage to block. All these TE's make for some wild goal line and pistol formations. Skins were #1 in Play action attempts. Kyle is going to have some funky options in short yardage situations. |

Williams plays special teams, not sure Royster does. Also, isn't Royster hurt anyway? |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Royster is like Jason Campbell - neither good nor bad, just middle-of-the-road. He simultaneously offers things to like and things to diss.
IMO he has had his chance |

Crawford will clear waivers and be placed on IR. HTTR24-7.com @HTTR24_7 7m Stop freaking out about Crawford being waived.. He has to clear waivers before Skins can put him on IR or work out a injury settlement.. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Doesn't sound like any surprises so far.

As much as I like Crawford, next year we will have a solid FA period, and good draft slots (minus 1st round for now), I guess cutting him was not end of the world. |
