Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
It was just reported on redskins.com, that Gibbs said that McCants is still part of the Redskins plans. This definitely comes as a relief to me. I have always thought McCants has the potential to be something special. Maybe he has decided to give Special Teams a try. LOL. Anyway, he's the big reciever that we need on our roster. Also, I think the quote from Gibbs hints that we won't be going reciever at the #9 spot. Here's the link.

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I think those comments. I completely believe that if you have speed, size doesn't matter as much.

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
Very nice, let's hope McCants takes advantage of this opportunity.

Matty:
We need to designate someone to deliver a 10 EEE suppository to McCants every time he loafs in a minicamp drill or misses a fitness/lifting session. That might get him into the offense as the posession receiver faster than anything else. |

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I'm wondering if McCants isn't really in the dog house but simply didn't have a place on this team last year. I mean he is a 6'4" 220 WR without blazing speed. Where does he get used on special teams? He certainly isn't going to play in front of guys like Thrash outside. Last year Coles, Gardner, Jacobs and Thrash HAD to be active. We only carried 4 game day guys early on becasue of Oline a DLine issues and later when the oline settled down we had more secondary injuries than china has people. Plus Morton got hurt leaving Thrash requried for ST no matter what and eventually they gave Brown a shot so they could get Thrash back into the offense. So even when went to 5 game day WR it was simply because we had no choice. There was never a place for McCants to get in. It cannot be lost on Gibbs and comp that McCants isn't exactly a ST type of player. At least not on a good special teams. Maybe with Gardner gone McCants becomes our possession guy. If we don't draft anyone then he is the only one who fits the bill in the traditional sense.

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I sent him a message on through that players site that it was his opportunity and it's up to him if he wants to take it, maybe he is responding to me... then agian most likely not.

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I like the McCants. I'd like to see him emerge as a threat again. Just as a possession receiver because that's what he is. I don't think he played TE in college.

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I thought i read he played TE somewhere...

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I win :P... from mccants Bio:
College Career At Delaware State, McCants played his best season as a senior, at tight end.... He tallied career-highs of 36 catches, 692 receiving yards and 18 TDs... His TD total set Delaware State and MEAC records and was No. 1 in Division I-AA... He finished seventh in I-AA in scoring with 116 points on 19 TDs, one being a 51-yard kickoff return, and a two-point conversions... McCants was named to the All-MEAC First Team and the Sports Network, Walter Camp and Sheridan Broadcast Network Black College All-America teams... He set a school and MEAC single-game record with five TD catches against both Liberty (9/23/00) and North Carolina A&T (11/4/00). He tallied at least one TD catch in each of the last six games of his collegiate career… As a junior in 1999, McCants played in all eleven games, catching nine passes for 292 yards (career-high 33.2 avg.) with two TDs... As a sophomore, he was fourth on the Hornets in receiving yards (251) and fifth in catches (18)... As a freshman he led the Hornets with four TD catches, was second in receiving yards (380) and third in catches (20)... He played in 42 of 43 possible games... McCants was the first Delaware State player chosen in the NFL Draft since the Dallas Cowboys selected guard Rod Milstead in the fifth round in 1992.
|
Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I think he's way too small (density) to be playing TE at this level.

it's been updated as of yesterday...
damn, somebody needs to get that man some grammar lessons ;) If we do incorporate Mccants into the gameplan this year like he was in 2003, we could have 3 very reliable red zone targets in givens, mccants, and cooley. As far as him being lined up at te at times, I could see that happening if he gained a little more bulk without losing too much speed. He could easily then have the same type of build, and hopefully impact, of a player like Antonio Gates. |

"McCants On HIS CD
01/28/05 Hey i have a cd coming soon. Before you judge me try hard to love and when i get my website together is for anyone who like classic 80''s RnB".......... Oh Lord, I hope his CD doesn't end up in the $1 bin at WalMart................Seriously, I hope he is willing to work hard to succeed, since Gibbs is giving him a chance, in football that is, not necessarily the music business. :biggthump P.S. I hope the Pacer's Ron Artest isn't his Producer.......... |
Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
Damn, I just got whored.

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I'm going to rock that CD if it comes out. All the way up I-81 to FedEx. HA! Priceless.
And on McCants spelling... he was supposed to have gone to college? |

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
According to the post, McCants will return next season....he's not just "in the picture" anymore.

Re: Gibbs: "McCants still in the picture"
I was very happy to hear these comments about McCants from Gibbs! I have been following him ever since Marty drafted him since he is a local guy that went to the same high school I went to (Arundel HS in Gambrills MD). I agree with FRPLG in that last season he just lost out because of numbers. Coles and Gardner were the established starters, Thrash had more experience (and is a total Gibbs-type guy), and Jacobs had more upside with his speed.
Now with the new group, all of the other guys are experienced, but because Gardner will be gone, he is the only one with size, which works to his advantage. It will be interesting to see what Gibbs does with this group this year in terms of dressing 4 or 5 WR's for games. If Dmac is going to be stuck on the inactive list most of the time again, I bet he asks to be traded/released. I hope that doesn't happen though! |
