2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Which Redskins draft pick, other than our starting QB will have the biggest impact this year?
Will it be Richard Crawford making an impact on special teams? Will it be Alfred Morris emerging as Shanahan's latest sleeper stud back? Will it be Adam Gettis or McRib shoring up the interior? Someone else? |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
With Helu foot issue keeping him back...Alfred Morris could be the next sleeper RB.
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Tough call. I think if Helu is suffering from a flared up Achilles all season, Morris has the greater impact. If the Line remains an issue and Licht or Chester is out for an extended period of time, Gettis or McRib become factors. This year is harder to decide more so than others because it felt like our entire draft, aside from RG3 were depth or developmental players.
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I went with Morris. I think at some point he'll get the hot hand this year, which means Shanny will give him the rock. Morris' and Helu's styles are completely different, so even if Helu is healthy I don't see him cancelling out Morris' pt.
What makes it harder to decide is that as Mbedner said, other than RG3 the rest of the draft is mainly developmental players. There's no Hank or Jenkins that we could expect an immediate impact from like last year. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Gotta go with Morris right now given Hightower's and Helu's situations
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
No idea why but my gut says Keenan Robinson.
Gotta go with Morris right now given Hightower's and Helu's situations
Whats the deal? I haven't been following as closely this year as I had in years past. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I voted for LeRibeus because I think he'll be forced into action a lot this year.
Long term, Keenan Robinson. I've heard him mentioned as our next London Fletcher. That's a big task but the coaches think he's fit for it. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I wonder if Gettis continues to improve in the next coming games if he challenges Hurt's spot for the injuried Kory L? I thought Gettis played well for his first start last week.
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I joined the Morris Chorus. I think he will be the latest in a long line of no-name Shanny running backs to make an impact.

Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I say either Compton or LeRibeus. Could see them both starting by mid-season

Whose spot do you see McRib taking? |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I think Morris is our starting RB by season's end based on getting a chance because of the dings and then he'll seize the job permanently.

Once fully healthy, I could see Kory sliding over to C and Montgomery being benched. Then Rib at LG |

I don't see that scenaro. Montgomery is a solid Center, why shake that up? My prediction of LeRibeus playing was based more on attrition, but I think he'll be great when he gets the chance. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Hey guys been a fan of the site for a couple years now, and finally decided to post. Surprised to see all the love for Morris (4.67 40) when the one big criticism of Royster is his speed (4.65)
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
What a great draft! I like everyone on this list.
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I thought we were planning on converting Morris to FB? That was the talk when we drafted him.
I do like Young and Cooley at FB though. |

well i think speed defined in a 40 is different...basically do they have the breakaway speed? probably not, but getting through the hole and moving quickly in small spaces? they are very fast. Morris and Royster both have great ability of breaking a tackle, which not matter how fast you are, is an important quality when pickin up yardage. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Morris says so far this summer he hasn't been learning any FB. Royster has though
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Seems like a lot will vote for Morris. 'Specially after last week.
Morris will probably make the team, but I think The Rib is going to emerge. His versatility is going to be key if we see injuries like last year. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Went with Josh LeRibeus.
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Alfred Morris will probably end up as the second best draft pick. Something tells me that Helu will still have Achilles problems by mid season. Running the ball with Royster and Morris will prove to be a better combination than Royster/Helu. Richard Crawford is another solid draft pick that we should keep an eye on. He's going to be a play maker as a pro.
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I think that either Leribeus or Gettis will get their number called sooner out of necessity but I am most excited about Morris' potential. In his first preseason game, I liked his vision and especially the power. At 220 pounds he already has the lower body strength of an offensive lineman (a 600+ pound squatter) as a 23 year old rookie which means he will actually get stronger. He is a little weak up top but as long as he can hold onto the ball and pick up blitzes effectively I don't care. I hope he can catch though. If he can catch, protect the ball, and pickup blitzes well enough I expect to see a lot more of him this season. We will see. For now, I like Morris.

Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I went with LeRibeus as well. I can see Morris being a good #2 RB, especially if Royster doesn't get his act together. But LeRibeus could be starting by the end of the season...although if this were to happen, I hope it is not because of injury.
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Why does Royster have to get his act together?
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I went with Crawford more out of hope than a belief he will supplant anyone in the starting rotation. I hope he becomes a solid dime/nickel corner and a factor in the return game. I keep hearing good things about him and he did solid work against Buffalo.
Depending on injuries, I can see Gettis, McRib or Compton (in that order) making a positive impact on the line. Just not sure any will be starting this year. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I went with LeRibeus, because I can seeing Kory L or Chris Chester having some kind of injury or setback.
Alfred has competition with Royster, Hightower, and an injured(somewhat) Helu. Compton was a good candidate but I think Polumbus will get the go at RT first. Crawford is a great candidate because he can return punts, AND make picks, but I see him in an Ade Jimoh role more so than a Carlos Rogers/Smoot role. Keenan Robinson will mostly see special teams tackles, unless fletch gets hurt, and if Fletch does get hurt, We'll sign a MLB before we trust him at starting, he still has to learn how to take on NFL guards. |

Even with our issues at oline if Crawford could emerge as a solid 3rd corner and shows starting ability with Hall leaving after the season, man that would make my year. |

I thought that he didnt look good playing RB with the first team in the first game. But maybe it was just offseason rust. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SIII using Tapatalk 2. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Cousins will be starting, and playing at a high level, at some point, when rg3 goes down with an injury. Our playoff hopes will remain alive because the shanahans weren't satisfied with grossman as a backup. After 2013, well trade cousins for a 1st rounder in 2014.

Not sure how I feel about this. I hope RG3 can be the next Iron man like Manning and Farve honestly but he has aleady had a college season wiped out from an injury. The knock on cousins was he doesn't protect the ball/ makes poor decisions at times. So he sounds like he could be Grossman 2.0. Certainly does have better arm though. Seems like a nice idea though we could use the extra draft pick(s). |

Perish the thought! It is best not to tempt fate. Anyway, I went with Crawford. He apparently has good coverage and ball skills and he could become our primary PR if Banks doesn't make the team. Also, the defensive backfield is an area where we could use some more help. So, for me, it all adds up to Crawford possibly having the most impact of all the rookies other than RGIII. |

40 times are overrated. A guy can play fast even with a lousy 40 time. Just ask Jerry Rice (4.71). |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Yeah. I remember way back in the days when John Madden and Pat Summerall did Redskin games and Madden would always compliment Gary Clark, saying he's a 4.4 guy but Clark told him repeatedly that he was truly a 4.9 guy. But as a 4.9 guy or maybe slightly slower, look at the marvelous career Gary Clark had when he was a Redskin.
Forty times are indeed overrated. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
I'm liking gettis' versatility. he's got size issues but he's an all world human being when it comes to work ethic.
Somewhat related- Does anyone have a link - or a write up of historical redskins trades? I'd be interested in seeing what we've done over the years. thanks. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Kirk Cousins
|
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
Liked what I saw in Cousins but he will not play this year hopefully.
REALLY liked what I saw in Crawford. Pretty sure he is on the team. Boy, I wish Banks would make it easier to cut him. |
Re: 2012 Draft Pick (not RG3) Who'll Have Biggest Impact This Year
after preseason game 2, it is apparant our DBs mostly suck....it is quite possible that Crawford may end up starting as a nickel after a month or so...he is a playmaker. It is easy to pick a RB or oline, but this kid could make our entire secondary better, I'd love to see him against starters.
